    Received a recorded call from unknown number but this is the number I was to call back, I can not find a company listed as Barkley Johnson and associates, they were threatened a tax lien if I don't call within 24 hours, yet I don't owe anything that would warrant a tax lien, I believe this is another one of the fraudulent company trying to scam people.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    I got a recorded message from an "unknown Number" stating they were Barklay, Johnson and Associates and there is a tax lien to be filed against me. Call back number: 877-361-0970 and give them whatever case number. Yeah right! You are a scammer and I hope you get prosecuted!

    Just received the same call about an hour ago.  This seems to be fairly widespread.  To me it sounded like Gregory Johnson & Associates, but the message was so muffled that I couldn't understand it clearly.  The IRS would NEVER send you a random phone call threatening you, understand that people.  Everything the IRS deals with would be presented in the form of legal DOCUMENTATION.

    Spread the word about this number and voicemail.  This is an absolute scam.

    Got a call this afternoon from (garbled name), Johnson & Associations about an IRS tax lien against my social security number and had 24 hours to respond.  Gave me an 877 number to call and a "case" number which was 2013-0553.  Anyone else have the same case number?  Probably.  Unfortunately, there are people who don't know that the IRS would never make a robo-call to a person much less a person-to-person phone call to collect money owed. The IRS would contact one by mail.  Plus, caller ID would identify the caller as the IRS not "unknown" or "out of area."  Don't even both to call the 877- number back.  Just another scammer tactic or this is a debt collector in disguise.  Sorry ?, Johnson & Associates...I didn't fall off the turnip truck and suffer brain damage.

    Does anyone know where this company is located? I have got the same call several times and they are very forceful. I would like to report them to the atty gen office of there state. I also, have been tried to get ahold of the IRS and report it to them as well. I am sure the IRS is unaware of this scam and they are suposely using the IRS as a resource. By law, they are un-aloud to do this and I would love to get these Ahols locked up......

    Ok, I figured someone needed to take action on this, as this bogus number has called me multiple times a day for the past 4 days now.  I called the IRS and went through the painful menu options and spoke to a human (after a 1:10:00 wait).  She confirmed to me that if an individual owed something to the IRS, they would be notified via formal LETTER IN THE MAIL (as I has suspected above).  I asked what action we needed to take.  She gave me the following instructions:

    Go to www.irs.gov and click on the "Scams" section (about middle of the main page), and read the current scams.

    Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission via phone number - 800-366-4484

    Here is the link to report the incident here as well - http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report.shtml

    I hope these scumbags go to prison...

    Wow, you are vile creature.  I'm going to "run my mouth" and point out to you that you are so full of it, your breath stinks.  Furthermore, your are a rank illiterate who can't even compose a complete sentence or spell basic words, who on earth are you to pass judgement on another?

    Now, let us look more closely at the argument this shill just vomited out

    >>>>Do yout research b4 running your dam mouth..
    Wow, did you even finish grade school?  That sentence speaks for itself

    >>>>> if people would pay there bills people wouldnt be calling you for money that is owed..
    First, they need to validate ownership of the debt.  Second, you need to prove that anyone posting in this thread owes any bills.   Can you?  Did you do your research before running your mouth?

    >>>>Stop defrauding banks by taking out loans and not payin back..stop getting credit cards and not paying them back...
    Please, prove that anyone in this thread has engaged in theft by deception.  Can you?  Or are you running your mouth before doing your research?

    >>>>>sounds to me like stealing...
    What do you mean?  Some low-life bottom feeder in a maggot infested boiler room fraudulent claiming to have an IRS lein placed on the call recipient.  MMmm, they aren't violating the FDCPA are they?  Or even, worse, fraudulently representing themselves as Federal employees?

    I love it when shills think they can make demands here. I'm thoroughly convinced there's a central shill school, based on the same old, tired lines spouted by every one of them and the appallingly bad writing skills that makes their worthless rants nearly impossible to read. But the more they come here, the more we know we're cutting into their scams. Score another point for the good guys.

    Wow!  Seems like you are pulling a classic "bait and switch" here.  First, the discussion was about liens (that goes through the courts) and you made comments about "defrauding" banks (which is a criminal matter).  Now you make some comment about people who have access to your checking accounts taking money from them (perhaps a PDL company someone has signed a contract with?)

    So in short, I'm not sure what you are talking about.  Is it a) a lien; b) fraud charges; or C) and automatic withdrawal from your checking account done by someone you have given prior authorization to?
