- BEWARE!| 1 replyCalled me and told me that I was being "served", that I should settle OR ELSE it would amount to thousands more dollars that I would have to pay, they had all my information and my fathers information. Recited my addresses, and the last 4 digits of both my dad's ss# and mine. They said they would send me a "text" to confirm the payment and that I could sign through the website. That's when the millionth red flag went up, and I told them that because they were able to provide cohesive answer to my questions that they could serve me and I would deal with whatever came at me.

- MJG replies to BEWARE!You are not warned if a summons is coming. Texts are meaningless (as are faxes, phone calls, & texts). If they call again, demand written proof mailed to you. That is the official way to notify you (or have a server come).
- JennI just received a call from 951.777.8982. They lady stated she wanted to verify that someone would be available to receive a summons on my behalf. When I inquired about the summons, the young lady stated she could give me a phone number (877.361.5913) to call so that I could obtain additional information; she also provided me with a case number. When I called the number, a gentleman answered the phone using the greeting "JJR, this is Brian". When I provided my name, the gentleman stated he had a file indicating a civil summons had been issued against me. When I asked why, he stated before he could provide me with additional information, he would need to verify my identity. The gentleman asked for the last 4 digits of my social security number. I refused to give it to him. He stated he already had my full social in the file and he needed me to give him the last four digits so he could confirm my identity. None of this felt right to me, so I refused to give him my last 4. I told him to give me the last 4 and I would confirm, if it were accurate. The gentleman grew increasingly frustrated with me and finally said he was not going to argue with me. I told him to just send the summons and I would deal with it upon receipt. The gentleman abruptly hung up. I immediately tried to return a call to 951.777.8982, but I received an automated message indicating the need to leave a voicemail message. Another message played indicating the system was not able to take messages at that time. I tried googling the 951.777.8982, but no results were returned. I was happy to see that someone else had posted a message concerning their interaction with a person at 877.361.5913, which was similar to mine.

- From KansasMy wife received a call from the 877-361-5913 number and it is JJR Judgement Enforcement. After some research it is based in Riverside, CA and seemed to me from what she described to be a scam because this is the first time we have heard from them. The guy also stated they have been trying to serve us papers for court and we have not moved in over three years, so that threw me a clue. They informed us there was a $550 fee from an old T-Mobile account and would settle today for $325. My wife stated they were rude and they informed her they would be serving her papers to appear in court. We did legitimately owe $50 from an old T-Mobile account and called them directly to verify the amount and it was indeed about $50. She then calls JJR back and told them that she paid T-Mobile directly, they said they would see us in court. We are pulling a credit report to see if there is any ID theft that happened with this.

- KellyThey have been calling me non stop at work and on my cell phone. I put them to block. This is a scam. I filed a BK a few years ago and have outstanding credit since then and I know that I do not owe anyone anything. I am also a paralegal. Someone suing you is not going to give you ADVANCE notice or anything of the sort. They just show up and serve you!

- Kim| 1 replyI received a telephone call from (951) 777-8982 telling me that I had a judgment against me and I needed to call (877) 361-5913 for more information. I called the number and they told me a judgment was filed against me and that they would be serving me a summons unless I settled the account today. I did not settle this account and told them to mail me the summons and I would handle it. They had my mailing address, my birthday and my SS#!!! I have locked down my accounts and blocked their number!!!
- Slim replies to KimInteresting ...
The scammer got it backwards!
Y'see, the summons must be served BEFORE a court judgement is made ... not after! I
More good info for you:
A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]
Source:
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.
IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:
