I got a call from this number saying that they are collection agency (calling themselves MedCredit) and I owe a bill owed to a hospital I visited long time ago (3 years ago!). The information about the hospital and doctor seemed to be correct. I didn't know I owed the hospital any money because I had never received any bill and at that time I was under employer health insurance plan.

However the collection company hasn't sent me a notice yet. Also I checked my credit report and at this time there is no unpaid bills. So I don't understand how after 3 years this thing has suddenly come up. I tried calling the hospital, but I have not been able to receive this information from them.

My question: What should I do? If I don't pay, I can have it on my credit report effecting it negatively. Also if they are fraud, how is that my personal information from the hospital ended up being in their hands?

I received a call from MedCredit as well, I don't have any records of balances from any medical facilities or doctors.  I've called MedCredit back however they have not sent any confirmational details related to the collection effort.

Hello, my bf also got a call today from the same number, saying that he went to the hospital 6 years ago and he was in collections for not paying his bill on his credit card. Six years ago my bf was 16 so he didn't have a credit card. pretty suspicious....So the lady asked him for his card so he can pay for it, he said he rather no give out any info over the phone. He asked her if she had any info about the hospital bill or anything, and she didn't have any answers she stuttered.  Be cautious! this might be fraud dont give any info out!!!!!!

Robot type call asking to call back without letting you know what this is about.  Then if you do call back, they want all sort of information from you that makes it sound like fishing.  Supposedly credit collection agency working for Hoag.  They will hound you even if Hoag made the mistake of sending your bill/invoice to the wrong address (I provided the correct address and Hoag didn't check their own record).  So much for a faith-based hospital to treat people as if they are guilty until proven innocent and not the other way around.  The simpler way to handle would have been for Hoag to either check their record before thinking I was a fraud or call me directly to verify my address instead of sending to collection agency.  SHAME on you Hoag for treating people this way.

I am currently dealing with the exact same situation that you described.  HOAG sent my bill to the incorrect address.  Got the harassing calls from Dominica (who is extremely rude) and lied on all the messages left for me.  She was calling my GF phone and leaving messages like it was some girl I picked up in a bar.  Finally Googled the number and found out it was for collections.  I had to request the back up to her claims 4 times before they finally sent it (Dominica "conveniently" forgot to submit my claims).  

Google how to deal with collections - I'm sending a letter requiring that they send me their contract with Hoag/authorization to collect my debt.  I'm hoping they decide I'm not worth it and give the account back to Hoag.

My DH has been getting calls from Medicredit from 877-373-1101, unavailable, restricted, and other numbers with various area codes.  This is supposed to be about a hospital bill over 16 years old that the insurance company said we were not responsible for.  We just blocked the number again and don't answer any unavailable or restricted phone calls.  Calling for a debt this old is illegal even if it was legitimate.

Got the call from MediCredit, but they didn't leave a message.  After checking here, I called back using the generic Google Voice number and the gentleman who answered immediately asked for my number they'd called.  I asked him who this was and he didn't hesitate to say, MediCredit, and then asked for my number again.  I told him I was just curious as to who he was and if he was going to admit it and that I had no intention of giving him my number.  He promptly hung up.  I suppose I'll be hearing from them again.  I don't think I owe any medical provider anything, so I'll just wait to see what they have to say.
