- jane| 1 replya bill collector for medical bills - BUT its for bills we don't owe. We sent them repeatedly a copy of our insurance company's EOB to show we do not owe this money and even the insurance has called but they still call us anyway. They are a shady outfit and should be reported to the fair debt collection agency of your state as they will try to collect debts that are not valid
- Caller: patient financial services
- Call type: Debt collector
- Mike-in-MD replies to janeDid they send you anything in writing via US Mail? If so, use that information to mail them a "Cease Communications" letter via Certified Mail, Return Receipt and keep a notarized copy for your records. If they continue to call after that you can sue them. If they did not, demand proof that you owe the debt sent via US Mail, do not accept anything else. If they send it, 1st dispute the debt in writing within 30 days or receipt of the mailed notice again sending the statements from your insurance company via Certified Mail with notarized copies then 2nd or included with your dispute notice a Cease Communications demand. That should stop the calls. If they then try to sue, you have all the records you need to prove the debt is not owed and can counter sue for damages and attorney's fees. As always, this is not legal advice and you should consult with a consumer attorney if you wish to proceed via the courts.
