- Brandi| 2 repliesI received a call from 877-448-2696...well actually, I received a call from a blocked call and said I was getting legal documents served to me and to call that number for more information. I called and spoke with a Mr. Baker. He stated that I had a credit card in 2006 from Continental Finance and paid a few payments on and then didn't pay any more...with fees and all the other stuff, he said, I owe almost $2,000. I asked why they were just now contacting me and he said they had made several attempts to contact me. He said they could settle for $650.05 but it had to be today. He needed to know today otherwise he would have to have me served with the legal documentation and I would owe the entire $2000. I said I had to check my bank account and I would call him back. I did research and found this site. I called him back and the amount I owed changed to $561.05 then later on in our conversation it changed to $561.06. I told him that I would need written proof mailed to me that I owe this and that he and his company are legitimate. He said he completely understood and proceeded to get my email address. I asked him if a settlement letter was supposed to be emailed to me and he said that this was just going to explain everything...the real settlement letter will be mailed to me after I agree to pay. He was very pushy asking if I was going to pay or not, I told him that I had to check him out first before I agreed to give him any of my bank information.
I am very nervous and don't want to be served a judgment...but my gut tells me that this is a scam, or a very poorly operating credit collector!- Caller: KS & Associates

- Don't talk to the replies to Brandi| 1 replyFirst off these people are being investigated by the ks atty general. You need to call and report all of this. After they showed up at a local business looking for me saying they were the cops I called the sherriff.... Who promptly informed me this is a scam going on in the Overland Park area right now. Call the ks atty general and get them all the information. Hopefully they will catch these people.
- Alfalfa replies to Don't talk to theA similar thing happened in the Atlanta area several years ago. A collector was arrested and thrown in jail for impersonating a police officer.
