- skeptic| 6 repliesThough did not get any calls, requested birth certificate and SSN copy as part of credit card application with Chase (which was never originated).
- skepticTo add to the above details, the "Chase" application came in snail mail and suggested calling this number for any queries.
- DR from Ohio replies to skepticI also just got a letter for the same info with the same phone number to call and for the same information. I already have a chase card so I knew it was fraud. When I called Chase they said they had me listed for filing out an application on July 25 which I did not do. Be carful!
- i applied| 1 replyi applied for a card through my work and recieved a letter in the mail that asked me to send a copy of my ss# as verification of my identity. This seems really bogus to me. I called the 1-877-470-9042 number and got a person on the phone directly. No prompts, nothing..just that the call would be recorded. This seems like a scam to me..i am now on hold and have been for the last 2 minutes...the guy is telling me that they need a copy of a SS# for each applicaiton..this seems a little bogus to me.....you let me know...
- i dunno..| 4 repliesi applied for a chase credit card, just recieved a letter saying they needed a copy of my social security card. i called the number that the letter provdided, 1-877-470-9042. the woman said that because i have no established credit that they would need a copy of it to ensure that i am who i say i am. she said if i didn't feel comfortable mailing it i could fax it thru a local chase bank. i dunno, what should i do? she had all of my information for security purposes and asked me to verify it.
- same letter replies to i dunno..After I applied for a chase mastercard on line, a guy called me for asking my address in order to send me a letter from chase company. In the letter, they ask me to submit my copy of SSN and others. 877-470-9042 is the number showed in the letter. I feel very uncomfortable about this kind of application if it is not a fraud. So I prefer to wait for the result about the application without submitting my SSN. Maybe the better way to avoid fraud is to apply another company's credit card.
- fraud?I just got the letter in the mail, asking me to send a copy of SSN and a copy of a utility bill. The phone # is 8774709042 (same) and also I looked up the return address and Google doesn't know about it:
P.O. Box 15077
Wilmington, DE, 19886
This keeps looking more and more like fraud. It seems like I'll apply somewhere else. - StrangeAfter having applied to Chase online I got a letter from the same address (P.O. Box 15077 Wilmington, DE, 19886) and a same phone number (8774709042) with a request to send copy of SSN, proof of current address and date of birth (even though my dob was indicated in the application!). I called back to the Personal Accounts Phone shown on the Chase web-site (800-432-3117) and one of their representatives (Rowe) immediately said that the letter was from them (I only began saying that I got a strange letter) and they need it for security purposes so that nobody else can open a card at my name. She also said (after my question) that the chances are pretty high for approval. Everything looks so strange, but I called the number from the web-site, NOT the one in the letter. So maybe it will be fine.. Anyway, very strange.
- Beware!| 1 replyI applied for a Chase card online. The next day I received a phone call from someone with the Chase Fraud Department wanting to verify information. I refused to do so. Now today I received a letter from "Chase" that says they need me to send something that verifies my date of birth to the address mentioned above and they also list the above mentioned phone number to call for questions. I've been online looking at the official Chase page for credit cards and while the addresses and phone numbers are similar I have yet to find one that matches. I'm pretty dang sure this is a scam!!
- annoyedi received a letter from chase asking for s.s.# today, i called chase, my daughter has a card frm them and asked if it was true, they didn't really answer my question, justing saying maybe i left out my s.s.# while processing my application online. if info is left out of applications submitted online, the process does not continue until that info is inputed. i called the 1-877-470-9042 got a rude lady and asked how can i besure this is true, i gave her my reference # on the letter, then she asked for my address, i said i didn't want to give it on the phone and if i could go to chase website and verify ref #, she ignored that and said get copy of my credit report. caller id at home i received another number from chase area code 224.
- Caller: Chase, USA
- lettered tooI got the same letter asking for my SS card and proof of address and birthday, and this number appears on the letter too. I just went to the closest branch and asked my personal banker if it is something real, and he just faxed those stuff for me.
- Monica100 % sure that it is fraud.I called Chase and they never ask anyone to mail the copy of their social security. They can always match your name on the application and the name on SSN , they don;t need this [***]!
- chase letter| 1 replyI received letter. It had my middle initial wrong and the house number wrong. They ask for proof of address by wanting me to provide them a copy of a gas, water or electric bill. Also wanted my SSN.....cramp meter went off the scale then.....fraud.
I will take it to post office and report it. - same letter replies to chase letterI applied for chase freedom card online it showed firstusa as the ip
address. after i applied i was not sure if it was a chase website.
I never got a reply to the email address i showed and stupid me it never
showed a secure login but i filled out the information and next i got a
letter requesting a copy of a gas or electric bill so i sent them my property tax invoice that should be enough proof. Now i get another letter requesting a copy of my SS Card. Now i cannot find the same website
by searching chase freedom card. I think this is big time fraud and i am
going to the post office also going to call chase as i have other accounts with them - Still more fraud| 1 replyI experienced much of the same as many of you. The scam seems to be connected to new Chase Credit Card applicants. And the best part is that Chase Bank doesn't seem to care or willing to take any actions!!
- Caller: Chase Bank
- SherpaI have applied the Chase freedom credit card throuhg the online but I got the letter from the Title" CHASE BANK USA, N.A., POST BOX 15077, WILMINGTON DE 19886-5077 and THE CONTACT NO:1-877-470-9042. The letter asked me my date of birth information and I feel it is kind of bogus to me and I called that number but the nobody answered the phone neither prompt. It is very strange. I know now that it is 100% fraud.
- UnitedMPI applied following an email from United addressed to me with details that I would expect only United to have. Completed the online form and then received the Chase letter asking for SSN and Proof of address.
I've just left this till now but think it has to be a scam. - Can't Fool Me| 3 repliesI never received a call but i did get a letter claiming to be chase/first usa with an 800 but same PO Box as the other number. I guess no one ever really did anything about reporting these [***]. It's def. a scam. the new number is 800 213 9435. Be careful.
- K replies to Can't Fool MeI got a letter with the same PO and new 800 number. It was from their fraud operations saying someone filled out a credit card application in my name and they want me to call. Is this related to the scam? Is this what your letter said? thanks!
- Rvl| 2 repliesThe request for a copy of your social security card and proof of address appears to be legitimate, even though suspicious.
I called Chase Bank directly at their credit card number (1-800-432-3117) and was told that, for new credit card applications, one is required to submit both items.- Caller: Chase Bank
