    They have called a Number of times.The message goes if you are so and so press 1 if not press 2 after 8 to 10 times pressing 2 they keep calling. So I started pressing 1 and I would inform them that they have the wrong number. Well that doesn't work either so i called back the number and it says its disconnected but they keep calling. I think its a rogue company because my number is on the do not call list. Any info on how to track these people down would be nice.

    For the past 6 months I have received at least 10 automated calls on my answering machine from this number: 877-481-1804 asking for "Manwel Perez" Finally I got a live call and told the person that no such person lives here and to remove me from his call list. He hung up on me and the automated calls have continued on my answering machine. They claim to be a debt collector for this person and leave a 6-digit account number. So sad they can "invade" our home without repercussions.
    Any ideas?

    Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

    Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

    This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

    David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

    [The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

    Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

    So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

    1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
    2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
    3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

    I would suggest first letting them know it's a wrong number. They are not going to take it out if they don't know it's wrong. The do not call registry is not going to help in this situation since debt collections don't have to use the registry. I'm sure that don't want to waste time or money calling the wrong people.

    This number is from Image Receivable Management. They are a debt collector through Shawn P. Lautz & Benjamin J. Fisher Attorneys at Law. They are very rude. I have not yet started getting calls but I did receive a letter in the mail from them telling me I owe money on a debt that I payed off back in January of this year 2010. I payed this debt off and have the paper work showing I did so but the guy I talked to said that they owe the debt and that the money I payed should have been payed to them and that now I'm out all that cash. Total b.s. He also told me that his company Image Receivable Management is reporting on my credit which they are not b/c I ending up looking at my credit when I got off the phone with the actual company I settle my debt with. Now I have to jump through all the hoops and ladders to prove to them that I don't owe them a dime. Very stressful and now I'm worried that my credit is going to get even worse tan it already is.

    So all in all, they are rude and they claim to own debts that don't exist anymore. Don't let them harass you. I've reported them already so I hope that others have too.

    This company is calling me looking for information on my 33 year old son. Their calls are frequent and vague, reminds me of another firm in Georgia who did the same thing and was subsequently "hand slapped" by the GA Attorney General. When I call the number back 877 481 1804 they cannot give me the name of the comapany because "they represent a lot of companies" . This is harassment in the first degree, and my only satifsfaction with telling them that I would not pass the message on to my son unless I knew the name of the company was, " That's OK, we'll just keep calling back"
    Please do what you can to stop these paraiahs.
