This is criminal scam and a fraudulent call. Do not give them any financial information. This is a group out of Atlanta that tries to call relatives of individuals on old collection lists and claims to be associated with your sherriff's office, in an attempt to scare a credit card number out of you. Then your account is drained. Please capture names, numbers, and what they claim and report this to your local police and submit any contact regarding this number to the Georgia State Attorney General's Office - (404) 656-3300

Similar to the rest... I had no idea my brother had taken out a payday advance under my name, 4 years later these guys got a hold of my mom and said about the same thing. I called the 877 number and found out that It was taken out on my name and i was in fact responsible for it. I went ahead and paid it. It really put a dent in my pocket but i was able to in turn sue my brother in small claims court to recover my money..
I suppose all we have to do is really monitor our credit and make sure we stay on top of things

This number is a fraud!  any debt collector that will not give an address for debt validation is no debt collector but a scam artist. do not give any information they need to be corresponding with you not you corresponding with them. Have any debt collector provide you with an address to correspond with you (validating the debt.) Do not provide any info... The fake Company is required to respond with amounts dates and companies they are representing in writing to validate your fake debt... never allow the agent to ask the questions! you ask the questions

i seriously dispute this claim of an actual debt that was paid? This is prolly scammers pulling a scam. why would some one who settled an acct. even post to this number? only someone wanting an answer to the harrasing phone calls would search this number. Also you sue your brother for identity theft first not pay the debt. then sue brother?  something is amiss

Even if the statute of limitations has expired, some debt collectors will continue to attempt to collect. They're hoping you don't know about the statute of limitations and you'll pay up if they threaten you enough. They may even file a lawsuit against you. If you are certain the statute of limitations has expired, you can use that fact as justification that you do not have to pay the debt.

Be careful not to restart the statute of limitations. Anytime you take an action with an account, the statute of limitations is restarted. Making a payment, making a promise of payment, entering a payment agreement, or making a charge using the account can restart the statute of limitations on an account. When the clock restarts, it restarts at zero, no matter how much time had elapsed before the activity.

These people called and said I had a package with a reference number and to call for delivery. When I called they said they had a summons and was suing me for a past credit card bill. They wanted to know if I was working and who I was living with I told them it was none of their business. They did not announce who they were or what agency they were reperesenting. I just told them I have been unemployed for the past two years and they hung up on me.

These jokers called my sister-in-law stating that someone would be at her house to serve me papers in three hours (who lives in a different county than me).  After calling the number that my siser-in-law gave me, I found out it was for a debt that charged off in 1998; therfore, they would not have even been allowed to file a judgement on me unless the debt had charged off less than three years ago in Oklahoma.  The woman I calledl named Ashley Johnson, was actually pretty nice.  She gave me their address and fax number to send a Cease and Desist letter to, which I promptly did.  Now...my brother and his family think I'm a deadbeat.  I still live at the same address that I've lived at since 1996, yet have never received any written corresopondence from Global Filing Services.

    been sued before
I was sued once before and settled after being served (not by this company but a legit one...I don't recall the name it was three years ago).  The debt was real but I still hired a lawyer to help settle my case.  No one called me prior to being served so when my mother called me worried about being sued I had to get more information from her.  She does not speak very good English so she's always afraid of doing something wrong.  I looked up the company "Global Filing Services" but the only thing that came back from Google was a business out of the City of Corona in CA.  There was no address but showed that the owner of the company was "National Filing Services" so I googled them and it lead me here.  I'm glad my mom called me because I'm sure its a scam.  My mom mentioned that they would not give her any information other than them wanting to know when she would be home.  Look people if someone is going to sue you they will first have you served by a processor or sheriff's office, especially if they have your address. DONT be FOOLED.  Even after being served & sued there is always way's to settle the case.  BE weary about companies that don't provide information to you.

Your bother was a deadbeat id theif, and you sued him in small claims court, and actually got paid?  Really?
And you didn't do the one thing that would have got you off the hook, even cleaned up your credit: file a police id theft complaint?  Really?

Hardly a credible story, but one that deceptive debt collectors will suggest, as it promotes 3 pieces of misinformation:
    1)  That you are responsible for accounts and debts caused by id theft (legally false), and
    2)  That your best course of action with id theft is to pay the debt and "sue" the thief (false, and it leaves you with a PAID bad debt, trashing your scores).
    3)  That you were "responsible" for this fraudulent debt because you should have "really monitored your credit and made sure you stayed on top of things".  (not catching id theft does not make you resonsible.  The creditor made the mistake, it's their money, so legally they take the hit.).

This little scam talk-off is used by debt collectors and pretend "debt collectors" collecting on questionable or fake "debts", where they claim since you don't recognize it, it must be "id theft".
