Received call from 877-571-4047  and got a woman saying subpoenas issued for bad checks and to call the number.  A case # was also provided.  

This reminds me of the 60 minutes, 48 Hours or other news program where these scammer collection agencies lie and intimidate people.  

Does anybody know who owns this number?

Received a call for a person in the household and said that they had a summons for a bad check.  The guy's name is Brad.  We don't even write checks.  This really upsets me.  And it is scary when you receive a call like this.  I would like to know what can be done about this.

I recieved a message on my phone from an unavailable number stating that he had a summons for me to appear in court.  He went on to say that he would be visiting my house, my job, and would be contacting friends and family to track me down.  He then left me this number to call back and a case number.  This is really odd.  
So I called this number and the automated voice called the company " SSA Group".  I have never heard of this company.

A guy called Mike, called me on a few days ago, looking for my daughter.  Said that he had a summons, but wanted to serve it her before it actually went to court.  Gave me the 1-877-571-4047 number to call, and a case number.  I checked the court records and there is no case listed for my daughter.  I even tried searching case numbers that ended with the last four digits, figured out that the frist two numbers '10' were probably 2010, and then searched using their code system of the first two letters.  No record.  He's just called again, and so I questioned him, told him there is no way he could have a summons, if it had not been issued through the court system.  He said that he had the summons and to call 877-571-4047, so I asked who the plaintiff is, he said he couldn't tell me....strange since he then said that 877-571-4047 was the plaintiff's number.  I decided to call it and they answered SSA Group.  I've searched and cannot find the SSA Group.  I agree with the other posters that this is really scary.  I'm wondering if this can be investigated by FBI.

So I finally got through to a person  at the 18775714047 number and the lady put me on hold and then came back on and asked me who I was. I asked what the SSA group was and they said it was a litigation firm. I then asked what type and the lady hung up on me.  So I called back and got the same lady and I said that I had been hung up on.  She then got really snappy and said no one hung up on me and that they were having problems with their phones.  So I again asked what type of firm it was and she hung up again.  I then tried to look up the case number and I found nothing listed.  Im wondering who this can be investigated by.

Told me same thing, that there was a summons.  Even called my Sister-in-Law whom I have only met once.  Threatened to come to my home.  Times are hard and we are filing bankruptcy but this guy is over the top.  There was no summons.  He told my family he was working with the FBI.  The most laughable part is the debt he is trying to collect is about $200.  I told him to knock himself out, serve the summons and I reported them to the Federal Trade Commission for giving my personal information to my sister-in-law.

I RECEIVED A CALL AT WORK FROM SOMEONE NAMED MIKE FOWLER, WHOM SEEM TO BE DISQUISING HIS VOICE, HE SAID IT WAS IN REFERENCE TO SOME BAD CHECKS, WHICH I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN. HE THREATENED TO SERVE ME AT MY JOB AND GAVE ME 1877-571-4040 AS THE PLAINTIFF'S# AND A CASE#, BUT WHEN I CALLED THE NUMBER IT WAS NOT VALID. I THEN LOOKED UP HIS NAME AND ADDED BAD CHECKS AND THIS WEBSITE CAME UP WHERE I GOT THE CORRECT# AS 1877-571-4047. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT HE ALSO CALLED MY HOME AND TERRIFIED MY 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE BY TELLING HER THAT I MUST CONTACT HIM OR I WOULD BE FACING CRIMINAL CHARGES! THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND SHOULD BE ILLEGAL ON MANY ACCOUNTS!

This is against federal and state laws.  If they are a true third party collection agency they are not allowed to threaten criminal charges or jail.  They can not share personal collection information with anyone other than the person that owes the debt or possibly co-signed for the debt.

Often companies will use like names, old phone numbers anything to try and collect a debt. With current laws you must send them a letter in writing asking them to verify any debt.  If you are told it is someone elses debt then you need to request in writing that they remove you from their calling list.

Better laws need created to control first party collectors.  Those are not required to follow the same restrictions. Contact your legislation.

Lastly, it could be a scam.  Just a criminal looking for someone they can scare into giving up person information or money not owed.
