Do not call this number and give out any information whatsoever. This is a scam to get your personal information on TCF accounts. Reminder: TCF or any other bank will never call and ask you to verify your account #'s and passwords.

This is as Jim stated. They called to verify charges made to my account and was able to catch the fraud before it got out of hand. They where able to stop any more charges from going through.

Jim is correct on this one. But don't take my word for it, call your local TCF bank directly and ask for the Visa Fraud Protection phone number.

Kiki and Jim are both correct. I received this call earlier this morning and was wondering why this occurred, so I immeidiately checked my account and all appeared well. From this, I called TCF to ensure that they do in fact have a fraud prevention service--they do, and it's for purchases made on you VISA check card. You can have the TCF customer service rep verify the phone number as well for the prevention service and it will match per the call/voicemail you received.

Once you call the number, you enter your card # and other info, they read off recent transactions and you confirm whether or not these transactions were in fact purchased on your behalf via your VISA card. I actually felt relieved when I received this call as I did make several online purchases the previous day from various trusted websites, so it looks as though they are monitoring purchase activity and if it looks suspicious enough, they will call you to ensure that it's you making these purchases on your VISA and not someone else.

This is correct.  This number is the TCF NAtional Bank Fraud Prevention Services Number.

Got the call over and over.  This is very unprofessional.  Caller ID "not provided" then a recorded message immediately asks for your credit card number.   How stupid do they think we are?  I don't care if it is a bank, don't give them your number

It's legit, it's just very stupid on how they go about it. The very first thing they ask is for your visa card number. THEN they ask for the last four of your social and your birthday to verify that you're the account holder. AND I think it would have been much smarter to at least put this number on the back of every visa card they give, and label it as "Visa Fraud Prevention" Just in case you yourself ever are having problems, and as well to verify that it's a legit number.

I agree,with so many fraudelent ways of people getting your personal info,TCF would have a better way of checking purchases.Maybe they could send an email to your bank site. they have a section in there for secure messages  I just got called and hung up because I didnt know if it was legit.

They wanted me to enter my Visa number of Course I didn't

this is VISA not tcf. so it's smth from the card company not from the bank.

my wife is overseas and she got some money from the tcf debit card. i got their call, found this page and logged into tcf online - the charges were there. confirmed with the wife too. then i called them back, they read back the transaction and i pressed 1 to approve.

if they were scammers why would they care so much to confirm my wife's transactions and not some bogus stuff they did?

then again always good to call tcf directly if you mistrust - but their customer service is not always competent.

This is not a scam.  They call to question unusual charges on your Visa card.

They do not ask you for your card number! They ask only for zip code associated with account and last four of your SS # before asking you to verify a recent charge to your account.

I am in the process of checking this right now - I called and the recording immediately asked for my CC #. We are calling TCF to verify

This is a valid number for VISA Fraud protection services.  I called TCF first to verify that this was a legit company/# and they confirmed that it is because there was unusually high withdrawls (or something like that) so you call the 877 # and verify your card #, billing zip, and last 4 of your SSN and then you have to confirm that the transactions are valid or else you may have a hold on your card to prevent future fraud (or what the company thinks was fraud).

This is a valid call from TCF Bank. If you are that un-trusting, call TCF, get the very number that calls you, dial it and go through the motions. If you don't want to, then suffer your card getting declined in the check out line if you want. But seriously, not everything is a fraud. You should also not be handing out advice or alleged facts if you have not yet done your homework.. you do a dis-service.

This is Visa Fraud protection affiliated with TCF Bank. They are only calling to verify that it is you that was trying to purchase something. I tried twice and was denied because I used my new address (they still have my old one on file) for the purchase but I have not changed it with the bank yet so they denied the charge. They were just calling to make sure it was me. They did ask a couple of questions to verify it was me on the phone but it was nothing that they could use to gain access to my account.
