    Call FTC when the collection person does the following illegal things:

    Misrepresenting itself as a law firm or that its collectors are attorneys;
    Misrepresenting that debtors will be arrested or have their property seized if they don’t pay;
    Threatening actions that would be illegal, or actions that the company has no intention of taking;
    Making false statements to collect a debt or obtain information about a consumer;
    Withdrawing funds from consumers’ bank accounts or charging their credit cards without their consent;
    Depositing postdated checks before the date on the check, or threatening to do so;
    Revealing to third parties that a consumer owes a debt;
    Asking a third party for a consumer’s location information more than once without the third party’s consent or a reasonable belief that the person’s earlier response was wrong or incomplete and that the person now has correct location information;
    Calling consumers before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., or at their workplace;
    Communicating with a consumer after receiving written notice that the consumer refuses to pay or wants the collector to stop calling; and
    Using obscene or profane language, or harassing consumers with repeated phone calls.

    They called me, and my manager and my co-worker and left messages saying that my ss# has been compromised.  But when I call the number I get a voicemail saying that it is an attempt to collect a debt that I dont even owe on.  I have not debts to anyone.  Wish they would just give up and stop  calling.  Someone on one call said their name was Agent Yates, and on the next call just said her name was Tonya.

    2-20-2012   Have been receiving calls 678-710-8087. From a man named Charles Steele. He first claimed that he was calling from an attornys office, then after further talking to him, he said that he was a bill collector, and that his company EDDS & Associates had bought a loan from Cashnet USA. He was very persistent on me paying this bill. It was for a 300 dollars loan and he was saying that it is now up to 1394.00. He told me that the next morning that my file was going to the attorney and after that there was nothing that could be done.  He continued to tell me that if this was not paid that it was most likely could end up with Federal charges and possibly jail time. My response was broke as hell and all that I can do is wait for them to pick me up. He wanted 394.00 to keep it from going to the attorney, then he supposedly turned off the recording and said if I send in 100.00 that night, that he would do his best to put me in a hardship program, then turned the so called recording back on, for he gave me the speech that this is a call to collect a debt( go figure, my  head must spin off and on) Told him I have been unemployed since 2010, after talking some much trash, he keep telling ways that they except payments. Told him I did not have a dime to send, told me supposedly he went to jail behind payday loans. I found no records of any company under this name and nothing on phone number. Called me again, to see what I could do, told him not a thing, he babbled about laws and what can happen to me, so what did I do but throw the law back at him, he put me on hold and I have not heard back.

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    They called about a bad check, from a check cashing company, from February 2008. Said they had already file a Summons and Complaint. I told them the statute of limitations has expired and not to call me at work but they continue to do so.

    I got a call today stating that I need to pay asap from a ligations officer at this number. She said I have to pay by today or else I will get a court document and have to appear in court. I asked her for proof, she stated that she couldn't give me proof. I asked her not to call my work she also said that she pulled my social and W2 information and know how much I make an hour. I told her that I don't appreciate the threats and will look into this with the actual company and contact her later. She said I need to do it by today at 5:00 P.M. Told her it will be tomorrow, she said that's fine and hung up!

    Recieved a call from this number. Name of Diane West (she did sound american) representing EDSS, address of 2700 North East Expressway, Atlanta Georgia. Asked about a payday loan, I have never had one!!
    Wanted to tell me there was a "situation" regarding my bank? Asked if I wanted to clear this up, and I said, no. I gave no explanation, wasn't rude, just said no. Seemed to blow her mind.
    I do believe after reading these posts, there is a rat in Denmark. Ignore them.

    Received a call today from EDDS & Associates saying to call 877-601-9194 and that my bank account was under fraudulent attach.  When I called them, they did not care about the account but asserted that I owe $2742 on a $350 loan, but they will accept $1400 if I pay today.  Otherwise they are contacting the local circuit court and filiing a felony against me for issuing a bad check against this loan.  For a person who is truly struglling to pay of their debts and build a credit rating, these guys are using maimum scare tactic to extort monies from their victims.  The call was very stressful.  I cannot believe they have not been prosecuted for this type of behavior.

    Just received a voicemail at work, We are calling concerning alleged illegal activity in connection with my name and bank. They need to speak with me immediately. Please call (877) 601-9194. If I don't return the call, they will have to make a decision without my input.

    No name of the caller or business, so I called my bank. They instructed me NOT to call them back or give them any personal information.  We should send these pond scum to Afghanistan and bring our troops home!!!

    I received the same harassing calls, and have pretty much ignored them.  My husband literally passed away suddenly two weeks ago today.  I accidentally answered one call, and did try to explain the situation.  The first guy was nice, the second lady was a B***H!  She said she didn't care, and that I will go to prison for 1-3 years.  REALLY?  So I called the Country Civil Department, and he said to try to get more information and let him know who it was, but to not give them any money, and let them file the papers instead.  He also said they could NOT put you in jail maybe garnish or something but thats it.  But seriously, harassing me over and over in a time like this!  I will be reporting them to the BBC, the FCC and the FTC, and any other acronym that I can report them to including the BCSD!
