Caller claiming to be Stats Canada. I need to know if this is indead
a call from stats Canada.

I called this number back because they said they were stats canada, and there is a message that said "please leave your numeric message now" I didn't leave anything.

I received a call from this number. I then called Stats Canada separately and they verified it was their Edmonton number.

It is the number for National Population Health Survey (NPHS) Western regions conducted out of Edmonton.

The message they left on the answering machine told me that they were Holistic Canada, to call back & something about selecting "B1" & leaving my phone number.  

Never did.  Never would.  Sounds like solicitors.

This is the Regional Office of Statistics Canada, part of the Federal Government, located in Edmonton, Alberta. This office can call all provinces across Canada, but they mostly call the Western Provinces, and the Territories. They call about different things, and depending on the message left, and whether or not a reference number was left, the reason they could be contacting you is vast.
They are open seven days a week, weekdays from 08:00 till 23:00, Saturdays from 09:00 till 14:00, and Sunday from 15:00 till 22:30.
By simply calling and stating the reference number you were left, you can easily find out why they were calling you.
You cannot dial this toll-free number from the States, or other countries. Rather, you will need to call their local number, which is 780-495-8734.

I answered a call from this number could hear someone and there was no reply. I hung up. They did not try to call back.

Well Still not a believer. If it is really Stats Canada why not leave a phone number that is listed on the official website. There is no way I'm giving any info out unless I can verify a number is from an official source. Both the number called and the number left are not listed on the stats can website.

somthing strange.... they called and ask me to verify the information I input in the census 2011, I told them you can check my online submission, and I wont answer any question through the phone as I dont trust you, then they hang-up....

I got a call today saying the same thing wanting to verify info from statistics Canada and now just noticed Government of Canada GOCGDC on the call log. I still don't care, I'm not giving out any info over the phone. Why would they need to verify things with you over the phone? I don''t like it and think they waste tax payers money calling us like this without telling us they would call us.  I told him I would call back and didn't even write the number or my "code" number. It could have been legit but I don't trust phone calls. Sounds like many of us are pretty cautious.

They are legit. They left a reference number, it pulled up my name. They knew who I was, and had access to full details of the Stats Canada Census form that I filled in recently.

I just got a call from stat canada. My first reaction was it was a spam, so I said I was busy. The man in phone asked when he could contact me again, but I preferred to call back since it sounded like a gov survey. He left a reference code and a toll free number. Then I found a lot of people also suspected about this number. I'm not calling back.

Just called us right now and claimed to be needing further information to Canadian census 2011 we completed online. My husband gave them our address before I could get on the phone instead. I talked to the caller, who gave me "his" name, "id number", and a "reference number." Also a number he said was in Edmonton. I told him 4 times as nicely but clearly as I could that we did not give out information over the phone, but they were free to email me with further questions, or I could call them back. He persisted in wanting me to answer questions and then told me that they would give us a few days and then call us back anyway. So I hung up. The whole gig of handing out phoney reference etc.numbers was part of some kind of con job phone call I got last year claiming to be from my bank, when I called my bank they were upset too as it was a fraudulent. Don't get sucked in by these con artists, never give info over the phone. BTW I called Statistics Canada myself based on the number given in the phone book (different to this number)...and they were closed. I went to the Statistics Canada web page...this number was is NOT listed.

The call actually came in from 780-495-6454. This is an Edmonton, Alberta number. The 877-604-7828 is the number the caller gave me over the phone.

We got a call this evening too. He claimed to be Stat Canada as well. When my senior father answered the phone, birthdays etc. were given. My father was given phone # 877-604-7828 to call  with a file number and employee # for verification. So, I tried to look up the phone number on the Statistics Canada website, but DID NOT find it. Then, I called the # 877-604-7828 and they said that the file number is legitimate..... When I really think about this, they just need to put someone to answer the phone at 877-604-7828, then they would gain your trust. There is still no confirmation that they are Statistics Canada. I am a bit worried now, but thought it's too late.

nice they called me today after filling out all of their [***] the long the short versions and told them that they wil be in calgary and edmonton papers and i will be going to the authorites asap then hung up. I believe it is a scam

the number in the phone book is different because that is the ottawa number for human relations in ottawa, the 8776047828 is the statistical collection office in edmonton. that number IS listed at the statcan website at http://www.statcan.gc.ca/survey-enquete/participant03-eng.htm . the BEST way to verify the id number, ref number and interviewers name is by emailing  infostats@statcan.gc.ca . you can also verify all the surveys they telling you about here http://www.statcan.gc.ca/survey-enquete/index-eng.htm

each cublical has thier own number. if you call it back directly you will get the same interviewers who answer the 8776047828. the 877 number is just so people are not charged long distance for returning the call.

the edmonton 8776047828 is NOT listed in the phone book because the people that answer the phone are interviewers for surveys, not human/customer relations . the ottawa number in the phone book is the human relations dept and can verify the edmonton number as well as employee id and ref numbers
