This is obviously a scam.  My computer was slowly being infected with garbage.  Then I started getting directed to this page saying that I MUST call this number immediately to have the problem  resolved.  I called, and it was a cell phone.  the guy could hardly speak English.  Of course he immediately started asking for my personal information.  I told him I wasn't comfortable giving it out then he said, "why have you done something bad?"  Hethen said it would cost $180.00 for him to tell me how to remove the trash THEY put on my computer to begin with.  I hung up.  Now I'm stuck hiring someone to fix my computer.  THEY SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL!!!!!!!!
    • Caller: I called them.  He wouldn't tell me thw company name.  Only" technical support"

The evening of October 23 I got the message on my laptop that a Trojan horse virus was breaching my computer's security, that I should not try to fix it myself, that I needed to call this number.  (I had been on Weather Underground and CNN.com.)
I called on my land line, asking if this was the proper number for help with my computer and was told it was "tech support."  I said I thought the message was perhaps fraudulent, at which point he said, "Then you should hang up now." I hesitated a moment, thinking, "Wait, I called him, not the other way around" and he repeated, with some urgency, "You should hang up the phone right now."  I did.  Now I will call a local Mac specialist I've used before to clean this up.

I was on Facebook and message popped up reporting my iMac had been infected ...Trojan.  The help number was 877-608-0630.   I called and Indian type accent said I must either completely reconfigure my computer or he could fix remotely for $80.  I asked who had send the pop up message & he said Ace Web Safety Labs.  He asked if this was a private or work computer. I said I needed to consult me tech and hung up.  Now I am not sure what I should do.  Suggestions please.

To follow up on my 10/24 post:  there was nothing wrong with my computer.  My local tech person said the whole thing is a scam. Apparently the hope is that when people call the number, the conversation will go far enough that callers are seduced into giving access to their computers, from which the scammers will mine personal data.  So, Marty, and anyone else, don't worry.  If you find something actually wrong with your computer, consult a trusted local tech support person.

I got this on a Mac, too, but trust me, it's completely a fake scam. The pop-up for me said "Windows Security Center" and "Your System32 .net frame work file..." That is complete [***]. Especially if you are on a Mac. Whoever allows these crap popup ads on their sites should be stopped.

It's a scam. Do not give them any access or information and don't even call them. They are trying to scare you into giving out personal information and/or access to your computer. Never trust a pop-up on the Web.

I got probably the same exact message today on my laptop and was panicking until got suspicious. I took a picture of the message and searched up the phone number online and found this site. I don't know if they infected my laptop but I'm kinda broke right not and don't know how much it cost to scan my pc. Did it infect your computer at all?

    Hey,
I have researched into the matter about +1-877-608-0630 after I saw this fake virus alert on my browser along with a pop-up and an audio message and I found this article with more info about it here:

    sensorstechforum.com/remove-antivirus-store-us-1-877-608-0630-fake-pop-ups/

According to this they are trying to lure you into a tech support scam to charge you money. They advise NOT TO CALL the number!

So these scammers have hit more than one person, so if that is the case, is there any way to send them to prison or catch them?
