- Davidmy 80 year old mom just got a call from her "step-daughter," Tracy. "I'm in trouble" she said. -said she was abroad, in Haiti, and got arrested. she said she only had one phone call. got caught with marijuana in her car. she was in tears. she explained that her voice was rough because she had strep throat. she was at the U.S. Embassy. A man from the "embassy" got on the phone and said Tracy had to pay a fee before she could be taken into court, after which she would be released immediately. to wire $2600 to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He left this number. Tracy got back on the phone and made my mom promise to "tell NO ONE" - she would explain it all when she got back. My mom called me anyway.
I called my step-sister at her office 30 minutes later. we had a good laugh. - DianeJust got a call from niece in Peru, Same senerio as post above. Have not talk to niece but believe it to be a scam. Will post more when I know more.

Same story: in car with two nationals, stopped, name on registration did not match any of the occupants; car searched and drugs found.Wire $2000 via Western Union to his name, address Mexico City,and they would take him to pick it up, then bond could be paid to get him on the court docket today and he would be able to catch tonight's flight back home.
Phone call received from area code 760, call back area code given as 877. Called the US Embassy in Mexico City directly, went through their message selections and chose number for US citizens in emergency.spoke to same voice from last call, hesitated when I asked him to ask "grandson" two questions that only he would have the answers to, was then transferred to his senior who refused the request (rudely), at which point I hung up.- Caller: Phone call received from Mexico City from grandson

- Carolyn ThomasSupposed U.S. Embassy in Mexico called to say that the Mexican Police were holding my grandson- have no children-on drug charges. Wanted me to send via Western Union $2,500 so grandson could see judge that day and get out of jail immediately. Other wise he would be held 6-8 weeks. Did not give complete mailing address in Mexico. Let me talk to "grandson". Don't know who that was. First caller who spoke perfect English and was willing to give me name and badge number and return number to verify authenticity. When I called back, the person who answered said "U.S. Embassy" and passed me to Mr. Greene who said I taken up too much of his time and hung up.

- TimThese people called my grandmother with a similar story but the city was Lima, Peru. She also talked to a Mr. Greene. Unfortunately, she was scammed out of some money. This was on April 13, 2012.
