- BrunoSecond repeat call in about a month seeking to reach unknown person. Householder says she has spoken with caller "Robert" previously, when she told him the person is unknown to her. He then used insulting language and said he didn't believe her, and she therefore asked the caller to not call again. The request has now been violated twice. Time now to file a complaint and stop this nonsense.

- Disappointed| 3 repliesEd Shams at Global recovery Group contacted my place of employment and harassed our front desk receptionist, threatening to come there and have her served with papers when she had no information to give her. he told her that I was summoned to court from a civil suit in California and that they were trying to serve me papers even though no legal action has actually taken place.
He also contacted my mother in law accusing her of being a liar when she said that I did not live there (I have never lived or, claimed to live, at that address or telephone number). He also told her that I was fraudulently using her last name. He told her that she was not cooperating and that he was going have her served as well. He told her that he had personally went to our apartments and contacted our neighbors and landlord and that is how he found out we had moved. He kept threatening her by saying that he was going to have the sheriff come disrupt my place of employment if she did not give him information.
I have never received a letter from this company or a phone call in regards to this matter previous to this day by either this company or any other.
After he had contacted my work and my family, I got a message from my front desk lady at work with his contact information. I called him and he just verbally bashed me on the phone and did nothing but lie. He said that he was with a separate company that Global Recovery Group and that he was working on my behalf to negotiate a lower bill (he works for Global Recovery Group. He wouldn't even tell me the correct name of the company, he kept calling it GL Recovery Group. I told him i could make payments at best and he said no. When I told him I wanted my attorney to handle it, he said all negotiations would be off the table and he was going to have me served. He kept threatening me with garnishing my wages the whole time. He also kept telling me that he was going to put me on hold and that he didn't have hold music when he was just muting the phone and eavesdropping. I called the company back to speak to someone else and the guy who answered wasn't any better. He ended the call with "We'll just sue you then" and hung up on me. I believe his name was Louis Lopez and he called himself a director.
Ed Shams is at ext. 114

- fgDavid Learner from GLR Group (extension 115) called me to contact a family member. David said he called my parents and was trying to get a hold of another family member. When I asked "David" where he was from he did not give me a straight answer. The only reason I know this is GLR Group is because I called the 1-877 phone # to see what GLR Group was all about.
David was very rude on the phone. I asked him questions and he refused to answer. He kept dodging answers when I asked him questions.

- Not Happy| 3 repliesDavid @ ext 115 called my work and it went to my voice mail. he said "listen to this message very carefully. it is a time sensative matter." then gave his number. He was talking very slow, like I am stupid or something. When I called to see who this was the recording said GLR group. I googled it and came across this blog. I am too afraid to call them back, after reading these messages. If he happens to catch me at my desk, I will tell him to stop the harassment at my work. I hate these types of calls. They do not need to harass and be pushy. Times are tough enough..

- JLA man named "John" called my mother (83 years old, in a nursing home) and harrassed her about an alleged $8,626 she owes (she does not have that amount of debt anywhere). He was very rude and demeaning to her. He said she should get the money from her kids to pay the debt, and he said that the debt was incurred at the time she entered the nursing home. After other rude comments, he told her that the debt must be paid immediately or he was going to send the Marshalls out to arrest her.

I think that about sums up this company's reputation. The alleged CEO does not even want to give his real name or email address. Only call the same 877 #, thats a scam in itself to get people to call back! Thats shameful if you are really the CEO of this miserable company. Fix your company so good people will not have to blog!

- POLITE RESPONDER replies to Not Happy| 2 repliesHELLO, I AM A PROFESSIONAL, CONSCIOUS, RESPECTFUL BUSINESSMAN. FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS I HAVE WORKED FOR A REPUTABLE CONSUMER CREDIT COUNSELING COMPANY. THE 8 YEARS PRIOR I WAS A 'BILL COLLECTOR'. EVERY WEEK I PICK A COLLECTION AGENCY AND I GOOGLE THEIR PHONE NUMBER SO I CAN PARTAKE IN BLOGGING MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS, AS A RANDOM NON-BIAS THIRD PARTY.
Yes, times are tough. Give yourself and your respective bill collectors an opportunity to practice diplomacy through healthy dialogue to resolve your financial matters. If approached at your place of business by a collector, do not perceive it to be "harassing", look at it from the view point of an "opportunity". You stated that you are "afraid" to return a phone call, and you stated that you "hate these types of calls". My heart goes out to you, and many other consumers such as yourself, who are good hard working people that go to sleep every night with a debt and/or debt collectors on their mind. If your only disposition is to attempt to avoid the inevitable confrontation of addressing your financial obligations it will surely lead to undue stress, the result of which impacts your daily outlook and life attitude which affects yourself and those around you. You have an "opportunity" to bring peace to your soul and restore mental and physical vitality. How? First, self reflect on your principles, values, and your personal moral code of conduct. Do not tolerate a bill collector who is abusive, demeaning, or unwilling to negotiate. Secondly, recognize that the respect and tolerance you expect from your creditors MUST be reciprocated. This can be achieved only through an open line of communication and NEVER through neglect or avoidance. Thirdly, and this is often the most challenging, you MUST be prepared to make sacrifices. If your behavior is going to reflect an honest 'personal moral code of conduct' you may have to think and take actions that you may deem 'outside the box' of your current living standards. Examples: 1. take on a 2nd part time job to help pay back what you've borrowed - 2. eliminate unnecessary luxuries (cable t.v., movie rentals, air conditioning, dining out {buy in bulk, feed your family healthy and cheap}, bring a box lunch from home to work, carpool w/friends to cut down gasoline expense, unnecessary trips, etc.) - 3. consider selling household items you do not need or use.
Very few delinquent consumers have the integrity to practice this noble behavior. Their belief is that it is acceptable to not pay back a loan because "the banks have plenty of money". This mindset is obviously faulted and until excuses are replaced by motivation and solutions their heartaches will continue.
If you seriously commit to taking whatever steps are necessary (legally and ethically of course) to earn/create just a little extra money for yourself, you will find that you can pay your bills. Make a plan, it may take months or even years, but stick to it. Once you have stopped running from your obligations and begin to talk with your creditors you will be on the road to recovery. If you stay diligent with your efforts to "do what's right", then, and only then, should you look in the mirror and be proud of your corrective actions. We as individuals set our own standards and expectations. Only you can truly measure if you've done your gods honest part to live up to the promises you made to reimburse the loan that you swore in writing with your family name and social security number you'd pay back! Have you????

Here is a great article:
In a national study entitled "Value of Third-Party Debt Collection to the U.S. Economy in 2007: Survey and Analysis" , which was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers and commissioned by ACA International, it was determined that in 2007 the collection industry was able to return $40 billion in bad debt back to large and small businesses that had previously extended consumer credit. That $40 billion return represented a greater than twenty (20) percent reduction in private-sector bad debt. The study suggested that this return of $40 billion translated to an average savings of $354 per American household, as the reduction in bad debt helped companies keep their margins low and in turn sell there products at a lower price. So there you have it...through the diligence and hard work of its employees the collection industry benefits us all.
"The annual savings is the average household equivalent of 19 bags of groceries, 155 gallons of gas, or more than four months of electric bills," Rippentrop said. "We would all pay higher prices to cover the unpaid bills of others if they were not collected."
Sincerely,
anonymous. - POLITE RESPONDER replies to kalikidtxDear kalikidtx,
This is a leery society we live in today. Your concerns and skepticism are well founded but certainly misplaced. I have researched this company and find that they do not have any aliases or "d.b.a" names, only the licensed GL RECOVERY GROUP. If your statement was in reference to a blog submitted by "Disappointed - 10 Jul 2008" suggesting that the mentioned collector did not properly identify the name of his company, then may i remind you that if you remain objective there are always two sides to a story and it is easy to create "hear say"!!! It appears evident that there was already a preordained hostility harbored by the consumer before he/she chose to respond to the collectors message! If you looked into this, as I have, I hope you silently laughed to yourself at just how 'intelligently-challenged" the blogging consumer is. There are other choice words to describe this persons rant that i will refrain from using in an effort to continue being polite! The collector stated he worked for GL RECOVERY GROUP. APPARENTLY HE DOES. Common sense will show that the consumer found this site by exploring the phone# or the company name, none of which lead back to the "global" company that he/she was so positive he was calling from. The consumers overbearing confidence (he/she even used parenthesis and exclamation points) and assertiveness that the collector worked for 'global' only enforces their stupidity. I apologize for having to use that word in my text, but it is what it is- this person sounds like a moron! Furthermore, this blogger has no credibility and is an outright liar! Obviously the person made a contract and breached the terms or they wouldn't be getting calls! This person claims that they called "UNIFUND", apparently where GLR got the account from and was allegedly told they sold it to "GLOBAL". THIS IS EITHER A BOLDFACED LIE or another example of being intellectually challenged. I researched the company 'unifund' and found they manage hundreds of millions of dollars in consumer debt! They know where the account was sold to! They told this consumer GL RECOVERY GROUP, but the idiot consumer only heard what the deadbeats ears wanted to hear! Oooops, sorry again for letting my manners and good taste slide a bit! I called 'unifund' and probed around a bit, guess what? 'Global' is a competitor of theirs not anyone they do business with!!! Not a single word of that consumers blog should be taken as credible!!!!
NOW,
ANSWER ME THIS: When you blog on this page it asks you for your name, right? As near as i can tell, noone had the courage to post their true identity, EXCEPT THE 'CEO' of this company you're slandering. Not even you!!!! Now, if you would just exercise a tiny bit more brain strength and observation ability then the rest of the dimwits blogging here you would see a first and last name for the 'ceo' of that company. When you blog before you think or look, you make yourself out to be a moron! No executive of any company is going to publish their e-mail on a site like this, did you leave yours? In my opinion it showed character and professionalism to open the line of communication to disgruntled consumers to call the office and speak with an owner of a company!! HE LEFT HIS EXTENSION! How is that a scam? This 'ceo' has gone above what most executives would have to ensure to the public that his company is legitimate and practices ethically. I APPLAUD THAT!
Lastly, it is my opinion after reviewing every blog on this site, that the only people who should bare shame for who they are, what they do, and their conduct, are the delinquent consumers messing up our economy because they wont give back the money they borrowed!!! DIRT-BAGS !!!
Instead of whining, making excuses for your poor decisions, and attempting to blame others for your failures... try getting a job!

You should be embarrassed about the way you write! - Nancy replies to Renee| 3 repliesWOW Renee.. I have rec'd a phone call many times from this "David" being very rude, not only to my mother, but to my husband, and my daughter (who btw is only 8) He told all of them that if he cant find me he will just have to come over to my house and wait for me with a sheriff. When my mom informed him that he is calling a a home that has a sheriff living there he got quite and said belitting my mother!!
He thereten my mother and told her that my life will be screwed up that i could never get a job, or have a career if i dont take care of this matter.
Just a week ago he has left a very rude message saying that he knows where i live and he can see me why dont i come out of hiding and speak to him. He then said he knew where my daughter went to school and hung up the phone.
I have called my local police dept. and the sheriff's office knows about this slimball.. Both depts said that at anytime if these people call and and are harassing you to hung up and call your local police of sheriff's office and give them all the information.
If they call you at work,mother-in-law or anyother place they are stalking and harassing you (which is illegal in all 50 states!)
These sick peolpe have no soul or life. I know they run on a paycheck along with a "bonus" for how many people they can get to pay off their back debt and they dont care how they get it...
These people are looser who need to quite their job and get real one! Remembe Karma is a [***] and it will bite these people where is counts for picking on all of us!!

OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE NO CONSCIENCE OR KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOOD CODE OF MORALE CONDUCT AND BEING AN OUTRIGHT CRIMINAL!!! YOU SIGNED A LEGALLY BINDING CONCTRACT- YOU DONT CARE. YOU HAVE MADE A PROMISE TO PAY BACK BORROWED MONEY- YOU DONT!!! IN FACT, YOU'RE ACTIONS ARE SO SCUZZY YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!!! YOUR THREATS OR ATTEMPTS TO INTIMIDATE ARE AS WEAK AS YOUR WRITING SKILLS!!! GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN HOW TO APPROPRIATE YOUR THOUGHTS CORRECTLY SO YOU DON'T SOUND LIKE AN UNEDUCATED IDIOT!!! THIS IS AMERICA AND YOU ARE FREE TO BLOGG AND TO BRING WHATEVER COPIES YOU WISH TO BRING TO LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. BE CAREFUL THOUGH, IT WILL EXPOSE THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A DEBTOR. IT WILL BECOME PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU DON'T PAY BILLS AND DON'T CARE ABOUT RIPPING OFF YOUR CREDITORS. ACTIONS LIKE THIS AND "CON" LIKE BEHAVIOR CORRUPT OUR SOCIETY. PLEASE RECOGNIZE THAT FAILING TO PAY BILLS AND INTENTIONALLY "HIDING" FROM YOUR CREDITORS (when you don't return calls that's what it is) COULD BE CONSIDERED BY MOST 'HUMAN BEINGS' TO BE UNACCEPTABLE!
