- butreallythoReceived a call from this number with a recording that sounds like a real person saying they needed me to call them back to verify my whereabouts and would use the limits of the law to find me. It's a hoax. I traced the number back to China. Do not call them back. If you answer, do not give out any personal information. They are a scam.

- Phil A. SheeoCalled me on my cell phone (listed on the do-not-call registry) and robo call asked me to call back or press 0. I pressed 0, the rep picked up and asked for someone I never heard of. When I told him that, he hung up abruptly without apology. I called back and the inbound answering message identified the company as FMR and gave the standard debt-collection disclosure.

- MichelleReceived a call from this number. It was a recording stating that they needed me to call them. I spoke with a representative that claimed I owed for a online payday loan that was taken in 2008. He even went as far as telling me that the loan was deposited into my bank account at Bank of America. Then he demanded that I pay the loan back or I would served papers to appear in court. I laughed and told the man that he was trying to scam me because I've never banked with Bank of America. He started stumbling over his words then tried to scare me by saying that he would be sending the sheriff to my home. I laughed again and told him to go ahead then hung up. Needless to say, no sheriff showed up and I haven't gotten anymore calls. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM SO DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!

- meggie| 1 replyGot a call from then too. My home and cell. I stupidly took out a Payday loan a few years ago but have paid it back. Now get calls from all over that I owe. It's a scam?
- CWG40 replies to meggieYes, most likely it is. FMR Forward Movement Recovery has a history of debt scamming on 800notes.
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand. - CWG40Something of a tangled weave with this FMR group:

! THERE IS AN ALERT ON FMR !
Collection agencies are required to be licensed or bonded in many states in order to operate and contact consumers about outstanding debts. BBB has reached out to this business requesting that they provide proof of licensing and bonding required for operating everywhere they do business. However they have failed to provide all of the requested information from our inquiries.
BBB wants to make consumers aware that they have legal rights when they are contacted by a collection agency. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) prohibits abusive and harassing behavior by any debt or collection agency, this act is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, FTC. The act states specific practices and rules under which debt collectors must abide by. There are penalties for agencies found breaking these laws. Collection agencies must not use crude or offensive language or identify themselves as anyone other the business name that they are contacting on behalf of. If a consumer believes a debt or collection agency has violated any of the FDCPA laws the BBB encourages them to file complaints with the BBB at www.bbb.org and Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov.

- Emily| 2 repliesHow do I get them to stop calling my family members? They can call me all they want, I won't answer, but I wish they would stop harassing family for something that is false.
- BigA replies to EmilyI will tell you what to do. Using the information CWG40 has provided for you up there you need to do the following (or you and your family can put up with the calls, your choice).
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- KSCAMMERS!!!!!
I have been receiving calls from 877-711-8670, 877-708-2490, and 877-708-5355 for 2 months! Sometimes they leave an automated message to call them back (but don't disclose who they are or what they want) and sometimes they don't leave a message at all. They started calling my mom's cell, little brother's cell, and then my boyfriend's cell (all are on 'do not call' lists). This became harassing in the last week. I finally answered the call today and they claim the company is FMR and that I had a short term loan with EFI Holdings from several years ago and that I defaulted on my contract for that loan. This is all inaccurate!! I've never had a short-term loan and I've never heard of EFI Holdings.
I informed them that if they did not remove my family and I's information from their contact list that I would report them to my local authorities as well as report them to my States Attorney. They said "Ok, we will remove you from the list". We'll see if I get another call....- Caller: FMR
