    get a real job scammers
    This is a scam. They are associated with the pay day loan scam. I have NEVER obtained a pay day loan and I also have a freeze on my credit to protect myself from people like these callers. My credit has never been compromised or utilized in a fraud case so I know for a fact these people are just pathetic losers that can't manage to just get a real job.

    I missed this call today. My vm said it was an attempt to collect a debt  and they would continue legal proceedings against me. They did not give a name, company name, or extention. All good indicators of a scam. Glad I didn't answer.

    This is a pay day loan scam, from over seas, they got me once but i was able to stop payment and report them and get my money back. now they call from a different number every few months. i just ignore it. they are now attempting to call my relatives as well and after calling the police and verifying that i am not in any legal trouble as the callers give fake "Docket" info, i told my relatives to ignore as well. Do not answer, do not believe them. i have never had a pay day loan, it isnt on my credit report and they are very rude and threatening.

    THIS IS NOT A SCAM!! They are trying to collect money that is owed. This is a company that collects money owed to CashNet.USA. I took out a payday loan years ago and now they are trying to collect their money. I am in the process of filing bankruptcy. I have told this to the caller numerous times. I was even transferred to a supervisor. They refused to take down my attorney's information and they continue to call. They told me I can not claim bankruptcy on this debt, but I called my attorney and I most certainly can claim them on my bankruptcy. They even threatened criminal charges against me. They are using scare tactics to collect money.

    Oh come off it. It's too early for your scammy, spammy bull pie.  It's pretty rare to get a garnishment awarded for a debt, and it MUST go to court first; a debt collector (or, in your case, a scammer from the sounds of it) CANNOT threaten with unjust / unintended to follow through threats - THAT IS ILLEGAL.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    They attempt to collect money from people who do not owe, but it's not a scam?
    They are attempting to collect money from you that your lawyer says is uncollectable, but it's not a scam?
    They threaten jail, but it's not a scam?
    They violate other provisions of the FDCPA, but it's not a scam?
    Surely you jest.

    And they've MAILED you a debt verification letter? I have severe doubts about a company that a) uses illegal tactics to collect, and b) has to come to its own thread and post threatening spam posts.

    Of course, since you're already in contact with an attorney, s/he can give you much better advice. Good luck to you.

    Are you even literate?  Can you read?  The OP noted they did not owe anyone money.  Why should someone acknowledge a debt they do not owe --- because you say so?   Second, no phone caller can garnish pay --- the courts have to do that after a judgement has been rendered in civil court.

    Now, please crawl back under your rock you bottom-feeder.  You might want to invest in a keyboard that actually works as well

    THIS IS NOT A MUGGING!! They had to collect money from me because I walked onto their city block. It was accidental, but that doesn't matter. It was my fault for not looking where I was walking. They had knives and they said my belly would be slit open like a roast pig. I gave them my wallet with all my swipe cards and money and my waterproof watch and my mobile phone. They told me I had to keep quiet as they ran away. They said if called for police they would find me the next day and kill me. They are using scare tactics to collect money. But again, they are not the ones in the wrong. They need my money more than I do, so it was not a crime.

    Oh yeah, almost forgot .... from FDCPA § 1692c. Communication in connection with debt collection
    http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/1692c
    "A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt ... if the debt collector knows the consumer is represented by an attorney with respect to such debt and has knowledge of, or can readily ascertain, such attorney’s name and address ..."
