said they were calling for peter brunson regarding a legal matter.
said they were calling regarding an urgent legal matter in Maricopa County and that there was pending legal paperwork that needed to be filled out. I asked her if she was calling from a collection agency and she said no but she couldn't be certain if the company she was calling for was trying to collect a debt. She said her company name was CR and Associates and left me the 877 number and a case number. I know the person she was trying to reach but I don't think I am going to pass this information on to him as the caller was very vague and I don't think she was being honest.
Not only did they refuse to give me even the name of the company, they asked me for private information about myself such as my social security number. I thought it was illegal for a company to refuse to identify themself.
This company called my house and asked about person I don't event know. This company must be scam. They try to gather my personal information, don't even mention where they are calling from.
Yes we got the same exact script, which leads me to believe it's a "call center" whenever I talk to these people and they deny they are at a boiler room I ask them if the name of the company is on the building. If not, then they are a boiler room. not worth a dime.
Learn the FDCPA law, 15 USC 1692 et. seq., and know it. It is your friend. All third party debt collectors must abide by it or be sued. According to this law, you cannot be threatened with legal action unless the agency intends to do so and they cant sue you outside of your own county so they are full of crap if they say otherwise. Also they must state their name and identity and that they are a debt collector. Another lawsuit if they dont unless they are locating!
When using the mails to obtain location information, a debt collector may not (unless expressly requested by the recipient to identify the firm) use a name that indicates he is in the debt collection business, or he will violate section 804(5). When a debt collector's employee who is seeking location information replies to an inquiry about his employer's identity under section 804(1), he must give the true name of his employer.
omg I just got the same message - peter bronson with CR associate with an urgent matter. I tried to call back but only got the machine. Is this for real?
They left me an "urgent" message this morning and they called my sister as well and left another "urgent" message for me to call them back. I did because I was alarmed that they called my family and spoke with a woman who told me that one of my past creditors was going to file a 1099-c with the IRS and that I would have to claim my unpaid debt as income and I would have to pay taxes on it unless I settled with them. I explained that it was past the statue of limitations and they couldn't come after me for it and she started YELLING at me that I didn't understand the law and they were just giving me a courtesy call to settle the debt before the paperwork was filed. I told her that she didn't need to raise her voice and that she couldn't speak to me that way. She then yelled back that yes she could and "I can even tell you to shut up if I want". I told her I had no comment about the matter except that the debt was past the statute of limitations and she yelled that the offer was now off the table and I could expect to receive the 1099-c summons in the mail shortly. I hung up. Who are these people?
called inquiring about a relative and some "legal matter" and how it was important for them to contact the legal rep for my relative.I asked many follow-up questions without providing any answers to her question because she refused to be specific about the nature of the call and of their business. We tried calling them several times, but the phone would pick up and immediately disconnect. There isno way in hell I'm passing this along to my relative. It appears to be some type of scam. They actually had my relative's name and age(senior), so I'm wondering if they are trageting the elderly.
These people contacted my Dad in Michigan leaving a message stating that it was Ms. Lee and that it was urgent that I call her back! My poor dad is 71 yrs old and called me immediately. I called them and the man answered the phone with "Can I help you?" He then proceeded to threaten me with a lawsuit on a credit card that was included in a bankruptcy in 1989!
Called my daughter and wanted to get in touch with me.Said it was a legal matter, they needed a statement from me and and had a case number.Called them back, they never identified themselves, and said they were trying to collect a debt on a credit card that I have never heard of and I am not sure if they ever existed
The first call I got the person would not identify himself but said he needed to contact my husband regarding a legal matter. They called me on my work phone is what bothered me. They said to have him contact someone by the name of Chris Adams at 1-877-738-4814 and gave me a case number. They even knew my husbands approximate age. I called the number back and asked for Chris Adams and he was supposedly the one I talked to. He would not give up any details whatsoever. If my husband has my work number as a contact number on any records, I would think that would give me the right to be given information about him
Guy called about three months ago from this number stating to be a process server from my local county sherrifs office. Was from a debt from 2004. I sent a letter to my state's AG office, the California AG office and the US Atty General. All quiet for about two months. Just got a call from my ex-wife that Mr. Ludwig called her looking for me. Wow, I have been divorced from her and living in another state for twenty years. He told her it was regarding a "civil suit"...
Yes, The guy even asked me about my social security number, and I am lying about the fact that person they are looking for is my cousin. And they just huag up on me after.
can we suit against this company or even employees work for this company. They don't even know what they are talking about... I got so upset.
Left a voice mail to me about a "legal matter" and how it was important for me to contact or my legal rep to contact them about a specific case number. They also new what city I lived in and my age. After reading this thread, I do not intend to call back.
Call back number was 877-738-4814, but the number on the caller ID was from Louisianna.
Called about my mom. This last time the guy was extremely rude. I asked for an address so mom's attorney could send some legal documents and he said they didn't have one! I explained mom had already filed a complaint with the FTC and we wouldn't deal personally with them. Totally pissed me off.
They called me, looking for my brother. When they would not disclose any information to me, I asked to be removed from their call list. Michelle said "will do" and hung up on me. She was rude, but the problem should now be solved.
