I called them to work out a payment plan and then they put this ass on the phone. If you call this company block your # because he calls me daliy on my cell phone and will not work with you. He just wants you to pay it all now. I would report him if i was you i did. No one will call and talk to me this way. - Jerry Brandt replies to larry| 1 replyIf this is anything about the trailer you need to talk to my x-wife. I moved out a long time ago and she was living there with her boyfriend. I gave her the trailer but the bank would not let me switch it into her name and now my name is ruined because of the trailer payments that they didn't make or the lot rent that they didn't pay and the utilities. They wouldn't let me switch them over either. You need to talk to Lee Brandt at 814-566-5730. I've talked to the bank before about all this stuff and I kept telling her to call them and she said she did but I know she never did. We got divorced and I lost everything including my job. I haven't lived there in over a year then she ended up moving out and just left it there.
- Got a Call From HIM!I got a call from this guy and I have to agree He is VERY RUDE! He called for my Fiance and when I told him she was not available he started drilling me like I was on trial. I explained to him he called MY number. He wanted my Fiance's cell number and other personal information. I explained that I do not know who you are and I am NOT giving out any information. He then wanted to know who I was and my relationship with my Fiance. I explained again that you called MY number and I don't have to tell you anything. At this point he stated that I was a Jerk and hung up! I am waiting for him to call back so I can finish letting him have it and I am sure he will be calling soon! This guy needs to be Fired for the way he talks to people.
- BarlowESQ| 1 replyDo not fall for the tactics used by this company. Yes this is indeed "Mercantile" (they use the short name for tactical reasons. Do not call them. You either owe money or not. They leave you a reference number. ADVICE: Google search exactly the following, quotes included: ["Request For Validation" template]. Come up with some RFV letter and send this to them via certified mail (DO NOT SIGN YOUR NAME ON THE LETTER-just type it in the letter). Find out what you owe and if you owe. If you do not owe money and it is indeed a mistake, then usually they will stop. NEW TACTIC for Mercantile: they leave a message stating "...we are assuming you are represented by legal counsel, call us and provide his/her information...” They do not mention "this is an effort to collect a debt". Rather they make it sound as though it is a criminal charge. Of course, they are using whatever methods "allowed" by the regulatory agencies of the particular state they work out of (or the state to which they are calling). Yet they seem to always push things too far until they are told to stop. Cheap tactics are understandable in this industry (how else will they get you to call back?), yet I think there should be tighter boundaries regarding what they can say. As such, dealing with them in writing is best. This entire debt collection process falls within gray area: people DO owe money and collectors DO want to be repaid. Some people simply cannot afford to pay and this is due to many circumstances which may be beyond their control. The problem is that the collection agents make a living from payments for debts. The incentive structure is clear-collect as many payments as possible. Unfortunately, these agents treat everyone the same way and with whatever tactic they can think of. They will never know someone’s “true” ability to pay. They treat everyone the same way. I can see both sides of the argument. It should not be the case, however, that they can say/call whatever/whomever they want. Generally the strategy is to get away with whatever they can and move on (I was an agent for two years). If penalized for unruly tactics, they stand little to lose. The company they work for does, however. The easiest way is to take the emotions out of the equation and deal with it on a mathematical basis that incorporates someone’s willingness and ability to pay. In most cases there is more than one creditor to pay and whoever barks the loudest gets paid sooner. Emotionally, it is easier to have an objective third part deal with this. If you have any intent to repay debts (actually owed), it is best to hire some agency to deal with them-otherwise you will have to endure psychological tactics that are unsettling. There are credible agencies that can handle this and save you money as well as spare you the invective that will be launched against you as a debtor. I do not know of any credible third-part firms that deal with these yet I am sure they exist. That is another topic….-BarlowESQ

- lovessshaha. This lady called from the number and was referencing a "contract violation" to scare me into calling back. They always call (about once a week) and try to get me to specifically call back with this long reference number. It is such a scam. Report them!

- TracyAlso - they use phone # 716-929-8529. I do not recommend calling them, but if you do be aware that you cannot block your number with any 800 (877, 866) number because the company is paying for the call.

- AnonCaller identified herself only as "Bank of America" (funny name for a PERSON and a CALL CENTER that answers their own line as "Mercantile Adjustment Bureau") and when told that financial queries are only answered via POSTAL MAIL, said "We'll just have the judgement filed, then," and hung up. Typical collection agent FRAUD.

Tom j. - AnonLIAR! Caller identified himself as "Greg Mariani" from Bank of America, after repeating this claim twice. THIS IS NOT BANK OF AMERICA. Refuses to send financial queries through proper channels of POSTAL MAIL. Mercantile Adjustment Bureau is a debt collection FRAUD, not Bank of America.

- Anon| 1 reply"Greg Mariani" from "Mercantile" categorically refuses to send any debt-collection communication over postal mail. This refusal is illegal and constitutes fraud.

- AnnominousThese guys call my cell phone minutes apart on some days. I don't know how they got my cell #. Following Anon's advice above, I called my cell carrier, and they immediately put a block on it, good for 3 months. I can also go online to verizonwireless.com/myverizon to block up to 20 800 numbers for longer than 3 months or extend this one.
