Received a call from "Alliance" that is calling on behalf of Bell and trying to sell some additional phone services. Asked them to put my number on their do not call list.
This one has called my house numerous times. I've yet to answer, but today they've called 4 times. They're pretty persistent, and not above calling you in the evening hours, either (past 6:00 pm).
Got my number in 2006. They call me at least 3 to 4 times a day sometimes. I have called many times and asked to be added to their 'DO NOT CALL LIST'. Still getting the calls. Twice for today so far. Very annoying. I agree they need to be stopped.
These guys have called me 6 times today, here is what I did. Went to this site http://www.partnersinrhyme.com/soundfx/Office.shtml Downloaded the fax.wav sound,I use my laptop, but if your computer is close to the phone turn your speakers up.Set up media player on your computer to repeat. When they call, just pick up the phone, stay quiet and start playing the fax sound. Hopefully they will take my name off the list thinking they are calling a fax machine. I'll let you know how it goes. So far it's been quiet for over 3 hours ( which isn't normal )
I am reporting this for me and a friend who doesn't have a computer. I get these call about 2X a day. He got 7 today starting at 7:30 am and they call up to 11:30 at night. This gentleman is elderly and it is very disruptive. He has caller ID so does not answer and it does not leave a message on his answering machine. There is no caller ID number. I do not have caller ID so all I get is a silence when I pick up the phone so I hand up
Thanks to "b" on Nov 20'07 for the link. Will try it out. ...Am looking forward to the new 'do not call' service that is supposed to be up and running soon.
We recieved a call from 877-767-0751, just got one now at 8:37 PM, have had many with differant numbers recently. Am calling Bell to complain, we left them a year ago for Rogers, this is not going to win us back!
This number called my house 7 times today when I was out, I just answered it on call #8. Alliance calling on behalf of Bell, agent asked to discuss my long distance plan. Information she presented was not accurate, she asked me some questions about my calling habits which I declined. She also asked me whether her service would rate "9/10" in terms of politeness, I replied that while she was polite, she sounded very green and that she should request more training. Asked to be removed from call list.

Denial-of-service attack
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Ddos) Jump to: navigation, search "DoS" redirects here. For other uses, see DOS (disambiguation).
A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted, malevolent efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.
Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even DNS root servers.
One common method of attack involves saturating the target (victim) machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by:
* forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consume its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service; or, * obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.
