received a call stating I would be served with a summons at work and at home. I called the number and spoke with "Brittany Morgan" at Portfolio Management Acquisitions, 877 771 6856. I advised them they are collecting on an invalid debt, this has been paid. I have proof. I asked for a fax # and mailing address and they refused to provide it and hung up. I called back and was immediately disconnected 3 times. I called from a different number and was given a fax # (310 236 7950, which doesn't work- I've tried 9 times now) and mailing address 27 Webster St Tonawanda NY 14120.
I filed a complaint with the CFPB against this company and the original creditor. the original creditor responded to the CFPB that I was the victim of fraud and also accepted a complaint regarding this PMA company.

There have been many complaints against this "company" on 800notes
    1. Refusing to give company information - ILLEGAL
    2. You are not warned if a summons is coming.
    3. You were hung up on several times - would a legitimate company do that?
    4. The fax number does not work.
The Buffalo, New York area has quite a few bottom feeding debt collectors.  Why not give your state attorney general's office a call too.

They called me today said I owed money was gonna send the police out to my home/work if I didn't pay.  They didn't use any info to verify if it was actually me didn't give me a claim number. So I called my creditor (witch I paid off and have proof of paid in full ) and they said they didn't hire anyone so I gave the creditor their phone number and told the creditor to deal with it.  Haven't heard anything back. I feel like it's a scam.

I got a call today just like this from 310.439.5738. Told me to call back at 877.771.6856.. They claim I have a debt from a checking account with Chase Bank. Said they would send someone out to my home or work to serve me with a "summons." Said she didn't have to let me know, but was giving me the courtesy to take care of this voluntarily. Someone tried this with me before and I went to Chase Bank and got a letter from them to prove I do not and have not ever had an account with them. I have also contacted my attorney general who stated to never answer. The problem is they are annoying and calling my family too.

They called my brother thinking it was me and he forwarded the message to me. A female names Ashley said she was with Outward Processing and that she had court documents to serve me with. She also gave me a reference number. Called back and was put on hold, and then disconnected.

I was called by Ashley and she was in outward processing. She said that a PMA&Assoc was filing a civil claim against me but they were looking to dismiss it. She said that I could either call a number back , give them a claim number, and ask for a "stop of release order" or that she could come out with a deputy constable so that I can see the papers. I had my husband callback and apparently someone that I didn't know listed me as a reference or that someone didn't pay close enough attention to the name. She said that I had nothing to worry about. Just imagine if I had told them to comeout to my house- who knows what would have happened!!

That you were "listed as a reference" and being both sued and served, and could wave it off with your payment for a "stop release" are five impossible things which even Alice would not believe before breakfast. Then after that fright show you're told it's "nothing to worry about". I don't believe in honest mistakes from dishonest thugs. That incident would prompt a real lawsuit delivered by a real process server from me.

Never let bullies on the phone confuse extortion with debt collection. Honest debt collectors cannot whistle up police to act as their agents, they do not typically send their claims straight to a judge, and they don't take your ransom money to broker quick deals with so-called "process servers". There are no secretive "arbitrators", "assessment specialists", "detectives", "investigators", "mediators", "mitigators", or "prelitigation specialists". They are sweaty double-talking criminals with a script full of coercive remarks. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal.

Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush. Early in that process you must be given a specific notice about your alleged debt and how to dispute it. From there, you have a right to obtain proof of claim *on paper*. Federal law does not expect you to take only the word of strangers on the phone that bad things are about to happen. Do not reward lawbreakers with your money. Challenge them always, sue them if you can.

Never deal with them over a telephone. Always do everything via writing and mail with return receipt. Never engage them over a phone. Send them a Cease and Desist letter via certified mail.

Google Debt Validation Letters, never admit who you are or what you think you owe. Never.

It's illegal to say they are going to send police. Call the police and file a report for threats. Give them their number.

Excellent post. Always, and I mean always send a debt validation letter via certified mail and never admit who you are or what you think you owe.

The burden of proof is on them not on you.

Also if they threaten you, contact and hire a debt lawyer who can sue them for their actions.

The DNCR covers sales calls only. Your secondary advice would misplace debt collector complaints within the Consumer Sentinel Network and possibly render them void. Proper complaint channels include the CFPB, FTC (as said), and attorneys general.
