Was asked to call into this number, anyone know what its for?

Called in, talked with someone briefly about a position I was applying for.

I got shown this to when I applied somewhere.

Easy process, just talked to someone who verified my info.

Yeah, it was pretty easy, they answered some of my questions about the job too.

This number is part Careers. I am a representative of Careers and would love to fill you in on what we do. Often you'll see one of our numbers on the end of a job application or during it, this is simply for the employer to gain the benefits of having a qualified pool of applicants. When you call in, we ask you to confirm your information and some additional qualifying questions, if any, that are required to fill the position. The process only takes a few minutes and then you're done.

They apparently verify information from your job application.  Mine was from a craiglist posting, so I was very suspicious to begin with.  So I asked what company is this for?  Don't know.  Where is this job located?  Don't know.  Do you know anything?  Don't know........  Haven't heard anything back, but not really surprised being that it was a craiglist posting.

This is a scam.  They keep sending text msgs inviting you to call this number b/c you applied for jobs on craigslist.  Its disturbing that people like this have my personal information.  The representatives can't tell you anything about the job.  They just keep saying "I don't know " to every question.

Has anyone actually gotten a job from this service?  If so, where and how much pay?  If not, then I'll conclude it is a scam and not even answer the phone when they call.

Suspicious, my call was also with Sterling Placement. It was more of a series of questions asking if I was willing to go back to college. The other thing that led be to be suspicous was the call quality was very muffled. I applied to a warehouse job from indeed.com.

I applied for the job of "Warehouse Loader/Unloader" and they responded the next day wanting to set up
a phone interview with me for today, 11-26-10. The e-mail said that THEY WOULD call  ME and so
far they have failed to do so. The wages offered sounded great & the benefits too. The authorities need
to put a stop to these 'fraudulent job offers' going around on various jobs websites ! It's tough enough now
trying to find a decent job in today's economy without having to deal with those 'crooks' out there !!!

I saw the ad for receptionist for $15-17/hr and applied on-line on Saturday. I set up the phone call for this Monday. Now that I have read so much about people's experiences with SPS, Inc and Sterling, I will know better in the future. I am very glad that I found the postings on this site before I made that phone call.

It is terrible that there are people/groups ready to take advantage of desperate people. It is hard enough being unemployed; having to be on the watchout for scams does not make it any easier!
