does anyone know the company for 1-877-801-7940? said there was a lawsuit with a judge pending

This is a scam number from people using old debts or debts past the statue of limiations to try and swindle people out of large sums of money, stating they are going to take people to court.

They just phoned my elderly Mother and told her they were going to come out to her house to arrest her for a past debt.  
She phoned me at work, and was afraid she was going to be arrested.
Can't someone do something about these types of people, and the threats they make?

My mother just got a call from the "Sheriff" (from that number) who was coming out to serve my brother with a summons. Our first clue that something was hinky was that he does not live with my mother plus a sheriff does not call to warn you, they just show up. Then my brother (who lives 200 miles away) checked on the internet to see if a summons had been filed for either my brother or my father (they have the same names, Sr. & Jr.) Nothing had been filed in the county where they live. A summons has to be filed at the court house. Checking that is something anyone can do. Then my brother Googled the 877 number and this site came up. It is VERY scary for those who do not have a clue and don't know what to do. My parents have been the target of so many scams that we are getting very proficient at spotting them.

I just got this call too.  I called and spoke with a man who demonstrated incredibly poor diction skills.  I asked him several times for the name of the company and his response was always "corporate office", and that he was "just the answering service."  Anyway, I continued to push for an answer and he then decided to "look up my name."   What answering service can look up the name of a client????   He also said the company was something like "American RPA".  I can't find any company in California by this name. This must be fraudulent. Be careful.  Anyone with additional info please post.

I have a private number calling me that gave me an 888-490-1076 to call the called themselves America RPA. They say they are a company that deals with summons and prosecutions for the courts. They have been harassing me claiming that an Officer will be coming to my house looking for someone that is partially related to me that I don't have a number or any info for. The man that answers for this company says that the information they have on this person is all my info and they must of lived with me before, which has been never. And they aren't allowed to search for this person and can't stop calling me until I give them there info and it isn't as serious as harboring a fugitive but it isn't good, he says. It is really horrible that this private number guy continues to call one number after another of mine everyday and threatening me for no good reason. I have no contact with the person they are calling for. It is frustrating and scary that this rude person is threatening to come to my house.

I've gotten 2 messages from a company leaving this number to call back to. They call from a restricted number hinting they are from are calling about a "complaint" that was filed against me; and that if I wanted to resolve the issue before furhter action was taken that I should call them and reference a file number left. First, VERY seldom do legal offices call you about a real complaint- they usually send a letter or just have you served. In the rare instances they do call you, it's not from a restricted or private number, and they will give the firm they work for. I called the number and got a voicemail referrencing a company called ARN. Most likely this is a shady debt collector with little or no valid claim hoping to scare people into giving them money. Ignore the call and they will go away .

these people called me this morning and told me they were going to take my car and garnish my wages over a 4000 dollar cell phone bill from 2006. I called my lawyer and he chuckled! SCAM!!

These guys have called "2" of my brothers stating they are process servers trying to serve a lawsuit to me ... I live in CA and my brothers live in 2 other states and I have NEVER lived with either of them.  The message is that I have an hour to call the "legal department" before they serve me with the lawsuit.  Which a real processor would have no information like that.  They only serve summons and that's it.  

They say they are American RPA, but the address they gave me as their physical address is a mailbox service in a strip mall ....

I would be very skeptical as to who these guys really are and the tactics they are using ...

My client got a call from this entity.  When I called and identified myself as her attorney, I was transferred to the "Legal Dept."  A Daniel Walker asked me to confirm my client's identify by giving him the last 4 four digits of her social.  When I declined, he asked for the middle 2 digits.  I declined, and asked him for a case number.  He refused, and said all "legitimate lawyers" he dealt with gave the social security numbers.  (Clearly, a lie.)  Then he asked me if my client had received papers to appear in court.  I told him not to call my client again and offered to give him my contact information.  He denied that American RPA had contacted my client, saying they don't make outbound calls.  I then offered to send a letter to establish my identity for future communications.  He said he couldn't give out his address to a "random caller."  I hung up.  In seven years of practice, this is the most surreal call I've ever had with an alleged "process server."  I suspect this is a scam of some sort.

They've called 4 different times and now they've started calling my Dad in Ca. when I live in the midwest .I told them I was recording the call so I could have them jailed and turning them in to the federal trade commission and he told me to have a nice time getting cuffed when the sherriff showed up . I told him we could avoid that if he gave me his address so I could drive on over and give him a little down payment  . His ballon was deflating very quickly when he saw I wasn't scared by his lies . Now I have to try to calm my 80 year old Father down . I have no idea how they found him since I've never put him down for anything on any financial dealings . These people are dispicable slime bags . Too bad no law offices will bother them for their strong arm tactics !

These people keep calling me also for a debt for a person with a similar name. I know this because I have received mail for the same person. It is a debt collector and at least for me it is a shot in the dark that they are reaching the party they are looking for.

I would love for someone to find out who this company is that makes legal threats over the phone and be part of a class action against them.

These people will not stop calling my mother telling her that I am going to be brought to court and put in jail - they however will not tell her what it's for.

I have broken no laws, and am relatively clueless why they are harassing my mom.  On the last call, earlier this afternoon, the man who called my mom stated that "she should have been more like Casey Anthony when her kid was little" because it would have "saved her the time and energy of dealing with him now".

My husband  has received  messages from this American RPA ." Ricky" has threatened to take his license and serve him with papers. I have forwarded this as a formal complaint  to  the   Attorney General  office as well as my attorney's office . We are going to get to the bottom of their threat level and why  they use County Sheriff dept as a " decoy" for their business . All of what they are saying is unlawful . RECORD THE CALLS or forward the calls to your attorney's office!!!I hope that  this American RPA is ready for  it's match!!!!! They  will learn the ethics of conducting business !!!!

The number they used with me is: 888-490-3317 trying to contact a Mrs. "Mart" to whom I am divorced, The said they're a "process service dept" for obtaining addresses of those who have been filed for civil lawsuits and or court appearances" as per a Mr. Anderson" who I supposedly spoke with


Either the FBI puts these two bit scammers out of business and behind bars soon or somebody will ultimately find them and deal with them on different "terms & rules"

They claim to be in California.......for whatever that's worth.

After getting months of recorded and in-person messages from this phone number (877-801-7940), today I got a polite, well spoken man who told me he was a process server and wanted to make sure my daughter would be home this afternoon so he could serve her.  Well, she doesn't live here anymore but does stop by occasionally.  When I told him that he didn't ask for a current address for her which struck me as odd - not that I would have given it to him.  He only said it was an order to appear in court.  When I pressed him for details about the summons, he said he no more information.  But, I could contact the company - America R P A - at 877-801-7940 and mabe they could tell me more.   By now, I was more than suspicious.  After reading the many stories here, it looks like I had good reason to be suspicious.  I can only be grateful he was not threatening or rude.

American RPA is a scam. "Mr. Steven Anderson" is a scammer along with other people in the "law firm." I suggest anyone who is being harassed by these people or have been a victim, contact your local FBI office.

And yes.. they are located in California near Anaheim from what I was told.

I was also called at wrk this morning with the same story that everybody here have
They gave another number to call because they couldn't give me detailed info. Said I was being sued and taken to court. They had alot of my info from a passed debt I had I was panicking I was dumb enough to give them my bank info. Then I went home and was thinking WTF this all seems really sketchy i looked up the phone number and this site showed up .so ran to my bank closed my account. Good thing I caught it now I know not to give any of my info
