Received a fax with a fake news article, and contacted the Vancouver Sun, who replied with:

Thanks for sending us this information - we became aware of this fake article late last week, but we didn't know it had made its way to Ontario!

We are hoping that the grammatical error in the headline and the poorly written article will tip people off to the fact that we had nothing to do with the "article".  Our lawyers are trying to get the travel company to cease and desist faxing this out.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

I am sick of getting these JUNK faxes, they're a big waste of time and paper. So, I called the phone number given 1(877)810-7899 and the voice mail suggested logging onto <www.merittravelcompany.com> which shows this same phone number.

However, when you Google "Merit Travel Company" you get a legit company in Toronto as the first hit.

It seems the "fake" Merit is riding on the coattails of the real company, hoping to accidentily get some of their business. They should be reported for their VERY misleading faxes.

And the fact that there is no number to send a fax back saying "Stop Faxing Us" is very frustrating, too!

I can't believe there are people out there to take advantage of your hard earned money.  I thought that this would be a great way to spend Christmas money instead of buying pressents. After giving them my card info. they sent me a thing in the mail to give them more money but it was a brochere for Cancun when they told us we could go to Jamaica for the same price.  The company Merit Travel then said Gate 6 travel so it didn't seem right so I went to check it out on line.  That's when I realized it was a fake company.  Your credit card company will not give up the money back because you give it up to the theives.  Please do not respond to this letter it is a total scam and you will get SCREWED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

<www.merittravelcompany.com> is very obviously a scam. They provide no contact information other than their phone number. There is no address, no contact names, no indication of intelligence at all - misspellings galore, dead links all over their web site, and having searched the internet for more information, I found plenty of people that have already complained that they have been ripped off by this outfit.
My advice is "Do not respond to them".
