- Annoyed| 3 repliesHas anyone received a call from this number 888-214-6957? It is a scam! I received a call from this company called UPG from a Marie Tanner stating I owe money from a payday loan. I don't owe anyone any money from a payday loan. How do I get them to stop calling my cell and home phone number. They are very rude and disrespectful and when asking for their information they want to keep prompting you for yours. Apparently they already have a certain level of info if they can call it out to me. I had another call like this and when I finally returned the disrespect followed by research they stopped calling.
- Caller: UPG
- Call type: Debt collector
- Lisa replies to AnnoyedI received a call as well, left message with the case file. I felt scam screaming in the vm not calling back
- Mich replies to Annoyed| 1 replyWhat did you actually say to them? They have called me over 15 times in one week. I don't owe any money either and the calls just don't stop no matter what I tell them.
- BigA replies to MichUPG is a new name for some criminal debt collectors that is now showing up in these pages. When they call simply tell them this, and if they fail to do it they are breaking the law and are to be ignored. You may need to buy a call blocker if the calls persist:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
