The caller left a message on our landline answering machine.
Caller ID simply identified the caller as "TOLL FREE CALLER." However, it has also documented the date and time for me.
The caller identified himself as "Alan (or Allen) David" a claims investigator for "The Gold Group." He was calling for someone we don't know. In fact, he could barely pronounce the Italian, maybe Portuguese, surname - he mangled it so badly I could not even begin to guess the  spelling. (Yes, I keep notes when I get annoying, unwanted calls.)
Basically, they were filing papers and if the guy wanted clear things up, he was to call the number in question, reference his claim number (which Mr. David conveniently provided!).
This sounds less like a collections call than an attempt to lure someone into calling the suspicious number.
