This number is definitely from a collection agency.  They claim to be attorneys from Moreno & Woods, however if you do a google search, you will find them to be bogus.  They do have a website but all you can do is leave them an email...very unprofessional for a supposed law firm.  I spoke with Russell Tinsdale & Michael Taylor.  They said that if I did not pay an old credit card balance from over 8years ago that they were going to take me to court.  They sent me some documentation to try and settle before court, however the email address that they used was from MorenoandWoods@gmail.com...again if they were a real law firm, I doubt they would be using a google internet address.  Bottom line is they are all talk and are not real attorneys.

You're right; it's a scam. People need to remember that if someone calls and demands money to prevent an arrest or criminal charges, it is ALWAYS a scam. Always.

Consumers being targeted by these crooks should report them to:

1) Their local police deparment

2) The FBI at http://tips.fbi.gov or call the local FBI field office

3) Their state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org

4) The Federal Trade Commission at https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

If they call again, give them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you've reported them to federal and state authorities.  For more information on protecting yourself from outlaw debt collectors, check out these websites:

I received a call from Moreno and Woods about three months ago and it was reguarding a  credit card that I used to have.  The limit on the card was $2,500  and they said the balance was for like $4,500 - $5,000.  They offered to DROP the balance for me and let me take an OPPORTUNITY to settle this out of court for the original balance.  I thought about it and said I'm not paying them anything because I don't know who they are.  So I stopped answering the calls and next thing I know I received paperwork saying that I was getting a Judgement placed against me for the $4,879 plus the court cost of $650.  Now my wages are being garnished.  When I called back to resolve the matter they told me there was nothing they could do.  I would make sure that these bills they are calling you about can't come back to haunt you like mine did.

you received paper work that said you were getting a judgement
placed against you and wages garnished just like that?
You didn't even go to court to defend yourself, get an attorney,
and tell your side?
Its my understanding that wages cannot be garnished in Florida.
I know people who would just Quit their job and move to Florida
for a new job.

unless you work for these people and just posting something
on their behalf... who knows?

When I talked to my attorney he said that if the debt is on the credit report then I have to pay it.  Unfortunately usually an attorney will tell you not to pay it because that is how he makes his money by me retaining him.  So for him to tell me to pay it means that I really have to pay it.   My problem was I ignored the fact and didn't show up to court.  Even if I did go to court and told my side it would still state that I opened the card and paid on it for a couple years and then hit a bad time and couldn't pay the rest.  Unfortunately when you sign the contract it states (in the fine print that we don't read) that  if you fall delinquent that interest will accrue monthly and they have the right to come after us for up to ten times the balance if a judgement is placed.  In my situation the judgement was placed for two times the amount plus court costs.  I don't agree with how this works but If I would have known this then I would have just done the settlement in the first place.  I guess we live and we learn.

grow up and pay your bills.   Stop trying to find ways out of paying your bills.  You were pretending to be a man when you signed for the contract and spent all of the money but when it came time to pay you went rate back to being a little BOY who is helpless.  I bet your mom pays your bills.  Poor mom, your probably one of those debtors who steals from his parents.  You should go rob peter to pay paul DEBTOR.  Some people are labeled as nice, mean, angry but you are labeled as a debtor for the rest of your life.  When you go to the bank to get a loan and they decline you they all say did you see that debtor trying to get a loan.  He knew when he left his trailor this morning that he wouldn't get approved but he still tried.  That is a true debtor.  JUST IMAGINE LIFE IF YOU PAID YOUR BILLS.  EVEN YOUR MOM WOULD RESPECT YOU MORE AND SAY MY SON HAS GROWN UP TO BE A REAL MAN NOT A REAL DEBTOR.

So, you acknowledged that you owed the debt?  If so, it's my understanding that they can pursue legal action against you if they purchased this debt from the original creditor.  Problem is, they purchased it for pennies on the dollar; which is why they were willing to settle with you for the original balance.  Had they sent you any correspondence prior to that judgement?  Did you go to court?
