I have a telemarketer block on my phone, so I don't know if they called me. However, a fraudulent charge was placed on my credit card account and the merchant was listed as "ID Safe" and gave this number as their contact number. When I called it, a recorded French operator answered and said that the party was not available.
Same here. $429 ID Safe. Called the number. No answer then a french message and then in english that the call couldn't be placed. Reading an earlier post someone mentioned that they heard their office was closed until 1/3 so I'll try tomorrow before disputing.
I just cancelled the account with Bank of america. THey've heard from a bunch of customers today with the same charge. Cancel your card and don't forget to contact companies thaty ou might have auto-payments setup with or scheduled charges.
I'm starting to think Bank of America Is doing it, no one knows your number, but who? the Bank. I think the economy is so bad that Big Corporations and Banks have to temporarily "borrow" your money till the end of the month, or what ever allotted time they claim the "faulty charge" will be "fixed". Just to keep themselves running and in business. The government doe not do anything about it because the Banks and Big Corporations have the government in their pockets. bingo! I think I hit the nail right on the head!

Yeah, They can spot a little cave somewhere over in Iraq with weapons of mass destruction, but they cannot tell you whose on the damn phone! yeah right! don't tell me that.
How could they get all of our numbers? Is our information being sold? I'm trying to figure out how they got my number? I rarely use my card for anyone to get my info. Is this scamming people all over US. I'm from Chicago suburb. There is one time in November when I ordered something from a day deal website, but never received item. This is the only time I ever used my debit card online. I only go through paypal. I hope this helps us put the puzzle together on how they got our info.
888 261-6045 ID Safe was listed on Bank Statement on 12 21 2007 for a charge of 429.00 I believe this is a Fradulent Charge Tried calling the number, but the phone just rang, no answer. Tried Several Times no answer. Any info on this number would be of great help.
I also have a charge on my credit card statement for ID SAFE for 429 dollars. I've already called my bank and they've put a hold on that charge while they research it further. The banker tried calling the number listed on my report 8883537860 and was able to connect with someone who said they were closed until January 3 and received no other information. The banker also told me ID SAFE is listed under computer/computer software in their information.
My recommendation is to call your bank and start the fraudulent charge process. Even if the charge is valid...which I'm almost 100% sure it's not, they will only hold the charge and put additional protections on your card while they research the matter further.
Well at least I'm not alone! I just had to cancel my Visa card tonite for a 21 Dec. charge of $429.00 for a "safe ID". I'm thinking some clerk copped a cash register recipt from one of the major box stores over the holidays and sold the card nos. off it or either they hacked into the store's computers. Gimme the good ole general store and a cigar box to make change with. If you took something that wasn't yours, you got shot. end of story. Oh Hell!
Same here. Same amount same date. I called Bank of America. Fraud department advised to cut up credit card and have frozen the account. They are initiating investigation. They will reverse charges within 48 hours.
Do not wait. Call your card issuer immediately and close your account.
A new wrinkle on the Safe Id scam. We run a Marine Engine business that does a large number of part sales by credit card. Recently we have been receiving calls from people asking why we were charging their cards around $3O. After much confusion (and a number of death threats from irate callers), we discovered the number that shows on the credit card charge statements is one of our toll free numbers. I contacted Bank of America and a number other banks and explained this to them and they agreed to try to help. They also suggested we should contact SAFE ID. Here is what Safe Id's web site says: "We can neither validate nor dispute these claims but we urge you to contact your bank as soon as possible and dispute any charges that you don't recognize.... Do not call this office, we did not take your money and we will not help you in any way!
They also added when refering to the only phone number on their site "Please note that this number is for law enforcement personel only and anyone else calling will be very disappointed with our response."
Seems like SAFE ID is not terribly concerned about this. It appears very odd to me and I wonder if this isn't some double blind con. I wonder if any law organization has looked into them.
Incidentally SAFEID.COM name is for sale according to their web site! Any takers?
I also have a charge on my credit card from ID SAFE in the amount of $429. I was online this a.m. in the process of making a payment to my Bank of America Visa card when I noticed a new transaction dated 12-31-07 and posted to my account on 1-3-08. I contacted Bank of America and reported it to their Fraud Department and also notified them of this website where they can review posts left by others. When I tried calling 888-261-6045 I received a message in Spanish, then in English it stated no one was available, please leave a message. You are not able to leave a message, you receive a fast busy signal.
My credit card company was able to patch me through on a three-way call with the Indian call center that was hired yesterday by ID Safe. In a hilarious twist of irony, the call center operator actually told me that this $429 charge was for credit protection! Baaahahahahahahahaha! That would be the mother of all credit protection services. Every legitimate credit protection service I've seen costs about $39/year. The ID Safe call center operator told me and the bank rep that they would credit my account, but I highly doubt that will happen. I told her I'll be holding my breath. The bank told me that if the credit doesn't go through after 30 days, to call back and they'll issue a credit from their end. Welcome to the age of the Internet...
