On 9/15/2014 I received a call from "Blake Shelton", who had a strong India accent lol, who said he was calling from the Department of Justice, tax division. He gave 888-285-5365 as the callback number and said it was urgent. A 5 minute Internet search found several other people who have received a similar call from that number. Fraud

On 9/19/2014 I received a call from someone with an Indian accent saying he was from the audit commission of the IRS and it was urgent that I call him back before legal action was taken against my name and SS#.  Interesting, that number isn't associated with the IRS.

I got the same message saying that the "sheriff" would be passing within 4 hours to "incarcerate" me if I didn't settle this lawsuit that the IRS had against me.  By the way, his name was "Sean Black."  So I called the number back and the same person answered by another name, so I asked to talk with "Sean Black from India."  He says, "How do you know he is from India?" I guess he figures his "American" accent is impeccable.  He suggested we could meet by the courthouse and (probably sounded intimidating,) so I replied with which courthouse, the one with the police station next to it, since it is closest to me, and we got disconnected.  I waited a minute and called again, asking for the same person, and he said he would transfer me... damn, disconnected again!  I called once more and now he doesn't even answer the phone

10/14/14.  I just received the same type of call from this number.  Random audit of 2008-2012 taxes showed I had miscalculations and owed taxes.  He claims the I.R.S. sent me a letter in Jan 2014 and I "willfully disregarded it".   The evidence against me is 1) (couldn't make is out) 2) IRS Code (although no code number given) 3) Task deception and 4) Willful disregard to the balance due.  They intend to put a lien on my assets and freeze my bank account tomorrow and a sheriff is coming to arrest me if I don't meet him at the courthouse steps today with $1,485 for the tax due and $9,300 for the penalty.  If I am unable to pay by tomorrow, I will be taken into custody for a minimum of 6 mos.

Got the message on my machine but couldn't understand most of it.  The man gave the phone number to call back so fast it was hard to understand it all, but my phone gave me the number.  Interestingly, I had two calls from my phone number listed on my phone from earlier in the morning although no one was home to make those calls.  That seems a bit weird.

Got a call today (Oct. 22) from a Sean Black, purporting to be from the IRS Audit Commission.   Same crap as others have reported--I owed taxes from 2008-2012, and had to pay today or I would have to go to court and risk losing everything I own.  Also, if I agreed to pay, I was prohibited from telling anyone about this settlement.  Yeah, right.  As noted above, "Sean" spoke with a heavy Indian or Pakistani accent--it was  difficult to understand what he was saying, and he got testy when I repeatedly asked questions, or asked him to repeat what he was saying.  Oh, yes, I was supposed to maintain phone contact with him until I withdrew $$$ from the bank and then obtained a "federal tax voucher" from, get this, my local CVS.  I finally hung up on him after assuring him I was reporting this to Treasury's Inspector General's office.

This guy is still up to his tricks.  The only information that I could understand, due to his heavy accent, was that he had my name and landline phone number correct, and the 888- return phone number (I caught it only because he repeated it twice).  Thank you for these posts; they confirmed my suspicion that it was a scam.  I have had to deal with the IRS and know that they conduct their business in a professionally appropriate manner, and contact has always been by mail; never by phone and never with a 24-hour deadline with serious consequences.

Same thing happened to me. My sister reported to the IRS. I didn't understand why the police could still let this person continued to do such dirty work.  This dirty guy called me so many times : early morning around 7:00, afternoon, evening. He should be arrested. I believed God will judge him if men couldn't do anything.

    J in MI,
I received the same call today from the same number.  Guy was stating his name was Mark Davis, and then changed his name mid conversation to Michael Black.  I knew this was a scam from jump street, but I still pressured him for information while also informing him that I was going to be reporting this to the Treasury's Inspector General's office as well as the FBI.  He hung up after I told him that.  I called him back, and he proceeded to tell me to and I quote "F#$k Off and the F#$king FBI is in my underpants".  He then disconnected the line.  Sad to say, this scam probably works on the less informed folks out there.  Hope this criminal ring is caught soon!
