- JBeez| 28 replies"Allie" or "Ellie" from "The Verification Center" left a message to call at extension 221 regarding an entry I allegedly submitted to win a 2012 Cadillac Escalade that I'd filled out at a movie theater, mall, or online sometime during the last 12 months and congratulations, last night my name was picked.
I have only been to two movie theaters in 12 months, don't go to malls, and cannot recall that I ever filled out something for a Cadillac Escalade nor why would I? (Gas guzzler)
Cannot find this on any scam lists (yet) so it might be a new one or it might be a debt collector ploy. Debating calling back just to find out which it is... without divulging my info, natch.- Caller: The Verification Center

- TParishGot the same call today on my phone machine and haven't filled out any submission to win an Excalade. Said to contact extension 221.

- Phone FerretI just got "Allie" telling me about my new Escalade I won in a mall contest. Too bad it wasn't "Kevin", I could use the truck :) I don't enter these contests and they called my business line.
The call back number, 888-301-0702, connects to the "Verification Center" who is conducting this "contest" on behalf of Direct Buy. Other prizes include $50k, $50k home make over, 2012 Escalade ... .
The person on the line was helpful but they wanted more info than I was willing to give so I didn't pursue this any further.
Google "Direct Buy" and pick "Direct Buy complaints" - Holy crap! Basically its a $5000.00 membership to ultimately save you 10% on shoddy products such as kitchen cabinets. Direct Buy does a great job of abandoning their customers and ignoring their complaints. Complaintwire.org looks comfortably familiar :)- Caller: "Verification Center"

- Rich in Louisiana replies to JBeez| 1 replyI got this same call yesterday afternoon, May 8th when I was out of town. I do not remember entering either but may have on a lark. I thought that if they pulled my number that they should know my name(not mentioned) how I entered, online, paper etc. I figured if legit, they would call me back. Anyway, for your info, I called and no answer, but no voicemail. I was not going to give any information either, but hey maybe you and I were the first of 2 finalists. Anyway, I thought that my first question would be what is my address and when is my birthday. If she said she needed for verification, I would say well you pulled my number out last night(Monday the 7th) and unless you pulled thousands that my phone number.
Just forget about it, as I write this, i realize that I should not have even called back. That probably got me on bigger list to call with scams. Don't call unless you can block number you are calling from.
Have a good day, Rich - Almost Believed it. replies to JBeez| 17 repliesThe scammer from the same # left a voicmail saying exactly what was said in your post. The funny thing is that I just recently returned from an extended vacation where I "had" actually filled out a few sweepstakes entries!! I did call back and no one answered. No recording or anything. Thats when I figured I'd been sucked in. When will it end............................. Or is this just something that will become fully engrained in modern communications as we know it?
- Linnie| 2 repliesGot the same message from Ellie, didn't return call will block this number. Thanks for all the other feedback from previous receivers.

- BJGot the same message. I knew it was a scam when, rather than have said "You have won an Escalade" they said "your name was pulled last night". Pulled for what? Pulled to be called and given a sales pitch is what I'm thinkin'. No calling back on this one.
- Susie Lowe| 3 repliesI got this call on May 11th also. We did not enter any sweepstakes nor chance to win a car. I'm on the Do Not Call list. These days, that apparently, means nothing! I am bombarded with scam calls on my cell and home number as well as email. How do we make this stop?
- Caller: Verification Center
- Andrea replies to Susie Lowe| 2 repliesAlso got the same message as everyone else on May 10. Been trying to reach this # for days & just rings & no one ever picks up. Exactly the same scenario as all of the other posts. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It really helps & saves time in trying to figure something out that we all know is futile anyway. I'm on the DO NOT CALL list & it's starting to get bad again. Lots of scams & starting again with the ones where they try to verify the last 4 digits of your SS#. If is wasn't that I'm searching for a job I wouldn't even pick up some of these calls.
- Susie Lowe replies to Andrea| 1 replyI'm also looking for a job. I think that may have something to do with this. Funny that you said that because I've had several email scams and been contacted by Liberty Mutual twice in one week about a job that is not really a job. I asked them to remove my number from their list.
- SueWell, we received this call, same message, same person, same phone number. Her message sounded scripted and sounded as though it went to many- which apparently it did!
So why did someone bother doing this?
Maybe we need to try to reach Ellie and cash in on this overproduction of Escalades!- Caller: Verification Center
- Jimmy Carl BlackReceived a call from Ellie but she said I had filled out an entry at a Mall, movie theater, or online but for a "50,000 home makeover" and my name had been drawn last night.

- MarshAlso received a call fro "Ellie" for a home makeover prize we won for entering a contest within last 5 months. Ellie left message -- but not returning her call
- Caller: Ellie
- TJJust got call from "Ellie" who left a message about a$50k home makover... same line as other posts except she said extension 421. I smell S-C-A-M.
- KCYep - same message from "Ellie" at extension 421.
- LJSame message from "Ellie" about the $50,000 home makeover. A few weeks ago it was the same number but the prize was a vehicle. Fortunately, I checked the internet and found it was indeed a scam!

- John DoeI received the same message from "Ellie" for a home make over. Same message, same phone number; 888-301-0702 ext 421. I called back from my work number to be a bit more anonymous, and no-one answered the phone. That is when I thought to check the internet to confirm my suspicion that it was a scam, and found this site. I *love* the internet which helped us all confirm our suspicions, and NOT Ellie :p.

- BetsySame message from Ellie on 5/24/2012 saying I had won the home makeover.
- PJI just today 5/25/12 got the same message....me too like a dummy called back (no answer), because I had registered for a 50,000 dollar home make over....
so it is obvious they are paying attention to give a ways and using that info to sucker some of us in...
yeah, I am so ready for this crap to stop....I get calls daily...either from politicians or some company wanting to reduce my credit card interest, which they just hang up on me...
finally hubby convinced em to NEVER answer the phone anymore....let the machine do it, if it is family and important they all know people have cells....
