They left a message.  It is a power company called Xcel.  I just got a new phone, so they weren't calling for me, but it's good to know anyway

The message said it was for a man but we are a business.  It said it was an important message from Xcel energy about his account. I called it back to let them know this was not a residence but a business. When I did it said it was Northern States Car Company.  Not sure what its all about????

It's Xcel Energy.  They are based in Minnesota and operate under Northern State Power Company in the upper midwest.

I received a message today from 888-335-7976. They said it was an urgent message from Xcel Energy. I called Excel Energy with their regular number,and spoke to 2 different people, one customer service and a person in charge, because I was curious about the 888 #, knowing that Excel only has only 800 #'s. Excel Energy stated they did not know what number that was, that they do in fact only have 800 #'s, and that it was a very good idea for me to contact their regular # instead.

18883357976 keeps calling me ---again as everyone else posted on here it's supposed to be xcel energy....according to xcel it's not them...

I just received a call from this number, exactly as everyone else is saying. Called Xcel back at their known 800 number, and the rep I spoke with said they did not know that phone number, that there were no outbound calls from Xcel in my area, and that my account was at a $0.00 balance and did not require payment.

If you call that phone number back, it rings to a voicemail which says "Thank you for calling Xcel Energy. All of our credit representatives are busy with other customers. Please leave a voicemail with your name, service address, and a contact phone number, and one of our representatives will call you back"

I received this call as well. Could understand the name they wanted but they said I could pay my bill with a credit card.  Scam???  I left a message that I could not understand their message and hung up.  Then they called back.  I told them again and they said they would take my number off their list??  what is that about?  I figured it was a scam.

I just received this exact same call. Details are exactly as listed above, except their automated voice actually asked for me by name.
The message said it was urgent that I call them back by 9 pm tonight. Called back to check and got the "All of our credit representatives are busy with other customers." message and hung up.
Figured it was fishy since Xcel has never called before, only sent my bills, so I checked it out and landed here. Nice to know I'm not the only one getting weird calls from fake company reps.

Just received a call today. They left a message that asked for me by my name. It also happens to be the name my real Xcel account. In the recording a woman says "This is an urgent message from Xcel Energy for _______. Please call us at 1-888-335-7976 by 9pm central time today so that we can speak with you".
I know this isn't the real Xcel Energy company. They don't have my cell phone number and I have never called their customer service on a 888 number. I am glad to know this is a fake company. Why doesn't Xcel warn their customers of this number?

Just as many of you stated I too received a call from 888-335-7976 but they did not leave a message. The call was on 12/3/09 @ 2:35pm Since no message was left I just ignored it. I don't take calls on my cell from people I do not know especially 800, 877 or 888 numbers. If they don't leave a message with details then I assume it is a scam and just ignore it. It is sad that people will resort to scams and desperate measures instead of working a normal job and earning their money in a respectable way. Desperate times and we all need to be very aware and careful in who we do business with.

NOT a scam.  I thought it was at first after googling it and finding this site, so I called Xcel (the number on their site).  She said "that's our autodialer" and that "it calls whenever an account is past due".  I really don't know what calling the number would do, maybe transfer you directly to billing, but since you can just call Xcel itself you might as well.

this is NOT fake. Its Xcel. The reason you cant call that number back is because its just one of their outbound call center numbers that shows up on all of your caller ID>  Seriously if everyone on this website is that dumb that they do not realize they owe money on their bill and claim they dont know why Xcel would be calling.  PAY YOUR ELECTRIC BILL.  None of these calls are fake.  But to call them back and get a real person you need to call the 1-800 number listed on the bill

In answer to lainiwakura, this is NOT Xcel Energy. I called and verified that our account is up to date, using their 800 customer service number. Nice try, phiser.

I got a call but with a new twist that instead of leaving a voicemail I got a text message saying "Please Call", that is all the text said.

Same message as the rest when I answered my cell phone. Earlier this year I called Xcel back using a number from their website and they had no record of needing to get a hold of me and our account was paid in full. Just got another call - same thing.

This number is legitimately Xcel Energy.  I called it back and gave them my phone number and they knew who I was.  I had set up a payment plan with them earlier this month and they were calling to remind me that I had a payment coming up.

My bill is paid in full every month, so there's no reason why they would be calling to collect. Nice try on trying to scam people. Get a real life.

It is NCO Financial and an Autodialer. We handle the credit card billing for Xcel. This is our number. We have yours if you ever made a payment over the phone, or you were ever late in making a payment. If you are late we will call and tell you that we are turning your powert off if you do not call us back by 9 PM central time. We don't care if it is during the period of time that your power cannot be turned off because of the cold weather rule, or if you already have an arrangement with Xcel.If we make you think we have the power to turn off your electric, we can get you to pay through us. We get a large percentage of your billed amount if you pay through us.
