Who are these people and what do they want?  I refuse to talk with them and they keep calling.  There are no outstanding debts and we do not have a discover card.

This phone number DOES NOT belong to th Discover network. We called Discover directly to ask about the account. Nothing wrong with it and they also said the phone number does not belong to them.

I think this is a scam.  We got a letter appearing to be from Discover stating that an application with our information was recently submitted and they want to verify more information.  The letter directed us to call 888-337-7253.  The letter looks VERY legit but something didn't seem right so I called discover at the number on their website.  We had no accounts or pending applications under our names or ssn.  So for grins I called the number and it has a recording that sounds like you're calling discover.  A lady came on shortly after asking for the reference number on the letter.  When we read it to her twice, she then says "it's not pulling up, can i have your SSN?".  Right then I knew it was a scam.  I just hung up on her and called discover.

They didn't seem too concerned but I know people will fall for this because everything looks legit on the surface.  Hopefully people who get this will google the number and find this information.

This is a genuine number.  Discover left it on the message when they called me with a question on the status of an application.  I called back and they knew details from the application previously sent to Discover without my repeating them, so it is definitely Discover and not a scam.

I received a call from from an 800 number asking me to call this number the day after I applied for a Discover card. I did not answer or return the call, but called a number listed on the Discover website. They did have questions relative to the status of my application but I felt much more comfortable calling the number listed on their secure website.

This phone number belongs to Discover. I had submitted an application over the weekend and this number called me back the following Monday to go over aspects of my application. Called the 1-800-DISCOVER (listed on the website) number after speaking with the representative from 888-337-7253 and they were able to confirm all aspects discussed during the call.

Definately a scam. I talked to Discover and they said there is no such number regarding Discover. They will call many people even the people who don't have a card. When the people that do have a card answers the call they will probably give them their card number ect. "Bang" your dead. Hurray for caller ID. I don't answer any numbers I don't know especially area codes out of my area. I type the number in the search area as you people did and get the truth.

This number is legitimate and is without question, Discover.  My wife applied for a Discover Card online and received a voicemail that same evening and the next morning requesting she call this number to verify some things on her application. I was with her when she called back and all they asked for was DOB to verify who she was (she was calling in from her contact phone number so they could already see her file), full job title, and questioned that in the app we wrote that she owned her home but that there's no mortgage in her name (it's in mine, different last name). The rep approved her card app and told her her credit limit and that the card would be sent out that day. It arrived two days later.

Absolutely not a scam, no idea what some of these people are talking about. If you get a call from this number requesting a call back it's because either someone at Discover fat-fingered the number and called you by mistake, or more likely because someone listed your phone number on their card application.

This is NOT a valid Discover card number.  Received a message asking to call this number.  Do not call this number, call the number on the back of your card.  Fraudulent phishing setup.  The people behind the scam post on these boards claiming that it's a legit number.  Always call the number on your card.  Discover stated they had no reason to contact me, and if they did, they would ask for me to call 800-DISCOVER.

Just call 800-Discover.  They will confirm it is their New Applications Department.  It was a mistake that they called me, because I had not applied for a Card.

888-337-7253 is a scam. Previously imitating Discover card in an effort to extract personal information from you, they have changed their scam and now pretend to represent. spectrum/Time Warner, offering a better deal on. Internet and pho,e and cable including pay-channels. An obvious sign is the offer of internet at 100 Mb speed ...which is not available anyway.
As per their scam techniques they ask for your drivers license number and social security number, something that Time Warner would not require. Time to hang up and report them.

Keep in mind, just because the number is legit, doesn't mean the caller is!

Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate numbers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.

If it is a legitimate call, then anyone receiving a call would know WHY they got a call from this number, right?
So what would be a reason to come and post about it to a site designed to share information about UNKNOWN callers, such as Telemarketers, Scammers and Debt Collectors?

If your call was legit,  telling about it won't  be any comfort to those who may get a spoofed call from some scammer!

When scammers stop spoofing legitimate numbers, then people will stop giving conflicting reports.

I applied for a discover it card and received a call from this number the following day. The caller asked for my name and birthday, transferred me to another person who put me on hold then told me the limit they were giving me and said my card will arrive in 5-7 days. It seems discover is just putting a person with the app. and are just as leery about getting scammed as the rest of us.
