This is the number for the government do not call list. If you did not add your phone to the national do not call restry yet, then call this number from the phone you wish to register. It is free and will reduce amount of telemarketing calls.

on 4/23 @ 9:30am my home phone rang. Unknown Name 888-382-1222 was on the caller I.D. I answered, "hello" only to hear the oddest recording ever. A female automated voice said, "Sorry, my mistake" and the line disconnected.  

Curious, I googled the number only to find that the government agency I registered my home phone number with, to govern and investigate any misuse of do not call violations is calling my registered number. Why would a response to an answered phone be a recorded message "Sorry, my mistake."? What did they expect when they dialed my number?

I registered my home phone with the National Do Not Call along with my families cell phone numbers about a year ago. When I checked on the site to verify phone numbers were registered, I got an e-mail stating they were not. I have verification of the registry one year ago.

hopefully just a goofy glitch within their system.

The registry clears itself every once in a while (5-7 years), just for routine maintenance.

A recording is claiming to be Sprint, and told me that I am late paying my bill. I had just paid them that afternoon. 1888335-6963. Also, 1888 212 8543 called the next day.

yeah, it is. number's legit, story behind it isn't true. go check it on snopes... :)

This number does not add you to the National Do Not Call registry IT DELETES your number from the national do not call list! Go to the website and check for yourself.

A friend told me about this service. I'm still a bit skeptical about registering my cell #, since many people seem to have doubts about it.

It is (legit). But dial carefully because if you're a few numbers off you can get hit by what is called a "Fat Fingered Dialing Scam"

I checked this out, look at line #36.  It clearly states that this is the number to report a phone number that is calling you 31 days after registering your phone number with the do not call registry.

I went onto the FTC link and found the # above. The safest way is to go to the Do Not Call Registry. If you don't trust the link, google Federal Trade Commission and on the search menu and search Do Not Call Report Fraud.

my husband and I got the weirdest text today...aparently from different people since they have separate email accounts.  The text claims a " ___________ (woman's name) send you a private msg visit www.trueawake.com"   Any idea what that could be?
