Got a call from these people claiming I had won the Publishers Clearing House 2nd place prize of $499,999. They claimed that Publishers Clearing House had relocated to Costa Rica for tax purposes. My check was sitting in the Dallas, Tx airport and being held up by customs. All I had to do to claim my certified check was to send them 1% of the total for the customs fees. I explained that I didn't have an extra $5000 to just send them. She claimed that they could finance 1/3 of the fee. Then I came back with.... why the hell would I pay you to get a check that was mailed to me? Why would something being mailed be caught up by customs? THen I hung up on them.

I had the identical call as you.  
The telephone numbers of the supposed Dallas Fort Worth US Customs Agent and the Telephone number of the US Embassy in Costa Rica/Foreign Affairs could both be placed in MAINE!!!
The supposed male US Customs officer by the name of "Agent Sinclair" even faked a Texas drawl...
I was also told that a 1% customs fee would be necessary to "release" a clearing hous check for $495,000.  Good thing I could convice my 78 year old father that what sounds too good to be true usually is...
