Total Scam! DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY. Look up the other number texasdeb lists and see peoples comments. I have filed numerous complaints to the attorney general about them.

The owners name is Kevin Brown. I also called the Loganville and Walton County Police departments - they were familiar with him - said he was a crook.

This number called my job and the operator transferred the call to my voicemail.  I was told by a mutual friend this company hacked into an account I opened credit with and now they are calling trying to get money for payments.  You need to tell them you are notifying the proper authorities and they will hang up.

Yep, that's exactly it. They have stolen information. They either hacked it, or bought it from someone else who did. It's scary.  Also place a security freeze on your credit report since, if like me, they have your SSN.

Thats the business address on the business liscence. The police told me this is Kevins house. The company address they give is just a box at a UPS store.

Brown, Stein and Weissman started using this number to contact me after my attorney served them with lawsuit papers for violating the FDCPA. It leaves an automated message to call them back. Kinda funny, because with each message, they're just hurting themselves. Each one is a violation of FDCPA since they know I'm represented by and attorney and they got a C&D letter from me.

i keep getting phone calls to my cell and work # with this phone number. do not leave a message on cell but have left one message at work saying they are Brown,Stein, and Weissman and i or my attorney must call back due to check fraud what is this about and why not leave this message on my cell # since you call me there at least 5 times a day. not one message on my cell

KM - I got to a point where I got excited everytime they called me after they got my C&D, becuase everytime they did I filed another report. (I think I've filed 4 in total with my state and GA) I just let him keep digging a hole. If he's that stupid. . I'll play along. The GA state attorney threatened to fine them up to $2000 per day that they are in violation.  I assume he's gotten more than one lawsuit and fine, hence he changes his business name about every year, sometimes less.

I just received 2 calls from these A$$H@LE$. One at my work and one on my cell stating it is imperitive that I call their office immediately. I don't even have a checking account. Is this a high priced phone call if you call them back? Like a 976 number?

A word to the wise, you should NEVER deal with ANY collection agency that starts throwing around terms like "check fraud" or other terms that make it sound as if there is a criminal act involved with a consumer debt.  Debts are civil matters; not criminal and agencies that use terms that make it sound as if a crime has been committed are themselves criminals - they are trying to scare you into paying them and by doing son they are breaking Federal law and likely your state's law as well.  If they sue you then they sue you...and you deal with it but collection agencies that so flagrantly break the law themselves cannot be trusted and cannot be dealt with in any reasonable manner.

Its unlikey they can sue any of us. You need to have origional paperwork to file a judgement and they don't have it.

  They can't sue me because they refused to validate the debt. They also threatened criminal prosecution, but they can't do that either. They were calling me about a payday loan that I paid off four years ago. You can't file criminal charges in my state for a payday loan or post dated check, anyway. They have called me twice this week, so I think that's a total of 8 times since they got my C&D letter. Plus, they sent me a letter that said they'd prosecute (illegal) said in a couple voicemails they'd do so (also illegal) and they continue to harrass me.

   My attorney has no idea how to stop them other than to file a lawsuit, which will most likely result in a judgement, which will attach any of their revenue until it's paid. They might opt for mediation, but my attorney thinks they will just not show up, and that the judgement will be entered as a default judgement.

    Under FDCPA you are entitled to actual damages PLUS up to $1000 per violation. If I count right, I'm up to 14 violations so far, not counting phone calls that had several violations, and times I called where they said on their automated message "please ask to speak to someone in our legal department if you received lawsuit paperwork," which is a scare tactic, since they can't prove the debt in the first place. If I count the multiple violations, it's somewhere in the neighbothood of 25 violations in the month since they started contacting me.

It is extremely important to their case to include in your statement if the phone representative claimed to be an attorney, claimed that the firm is a law firm or alluded to the firm being a law firm or having lawyers on staff or something about a  network of attorneys that work for their firm. Also end your statement with the line below:

I respectfully request that the firm  Brown Stein and Weissman be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law pursuant to 15 USC §§ 1692 § 814 and State laws regarding Fair Debt Collection Credit Practices.
