Clearly a scam.  I computerized voice left a message threatening to issue a warrant for my arrest if I didn't call back about an IRS issue.  I do not have an issue with the IRS.  It makes sense that this would be an overseas scam looking for money or bank account info.  The post from RexIRS is excellent and not only explains the situation, but offers options to stop this.

I have received a call and a message was left on my answer machine from # 888-392-8421 stating that its from IRS. I do not have any issues with IRS. I found it very suspicious, so I immediately got online to do research on this number and found your page that explains that it's a scam call and what action to take. Thank you.

Got a call from this number, 888-392-8421 "800 Service" today. We don't answer calls unless we know who it is, and if they don't leave a message we don't respond.  After checking this site, I happily blocked the number.

Too bad I saw this too late I gave them my name - it is hard to write they didn't ask me to spell it so hopefully it does there. Yes the US Government needs to stop this type of activity. Cut off forigen aid to these countries until they clean up the crime that they have going on inside their borders that targets US citizens!

Like other posters, I was told that I was receiving a final notice from the IRS and that I was going to be put in jail if I didn't respond immediately.  I didn't believe it since A) they did not use any names to identify who they were looking for and B) we've not received any other notices and have no reason to think we'd be in trouble with the IRS and C) it sounded like a scam.
    Voice was creepy and threatening.

    Us too,
    This morning
My wife called me in a panic. Told her (since I do the IRS stuff) that the IRS would NEVER communicate this kind of info via phone. Only by official mailed correspondence with a CASE number ID.

There should be an arrest warrant sent from the FBI to the perpetrators of this crime!
    I recommend life in prison.

This was the call from IRS, to respond immeditately to the final notice issued by them.
I know we did not received any notices in the mail, I ignored it, but checked this page and voila, another scam.

Received a threatening phone message with the info to call the IRS at 888-392-8421 immediately and if I did not I would be receiving a warrant for my arrest. This was their final notice, you must return their call to speak to a "live" person. I had not received any information from the IRS previously in regard to concern. Sounded strange to me. Called back the number. The phone was immediately picked up.  I could not easily understand the person who took my call and inquired if this is the IRS.  He said yes, this is the Internal Revenue Service and asked for my name. I did not give him any information, but asked what phone number and who he is trying to contact.  He gave me a false name. I informed him that this person does not live here and he replied that he will inform the IRS that it is wrong number and hung up.  Very bizarre and scary. Be very wary.

I did a reverse search on 888-392-8421 and shows a point between Stockton and Osborne KS. http://www.411.com/phone/1-888-392-8421 . Wonder who the carrier is for that. btw, same thing - IRS scam. I called back and began to present the Gospel. "Click!" Tried after that but they would not answer for a bit, but then they did. So I presented it again. "Click."

I got the same message today. First alert to this scam was the lack of properly spoken English "Please listen to the message careful". Hmm..I don't think so. And then they end the threatening call with "Have a nice day". I suppose they feel the inclusion of that phrase lends credibility. Again, I don't think so. However, just to be sure...here I am, looking to see if others have had the same experience and what their thoughts are. Course I'm lucky because I have the internet at my fingertips. Pity all the elderly people who aren't so fortunate and have worried and lost sleep over this intrusion into their lives. Spread the word about these crooks.

Unfortunately nobody can find them.  They are located in India and beyond the reach of US law.

    Howdy Cousins...****SCAM ALERT***

Because we are swell people, smell good and often times hug others, I thought we would provide you with one of our world famous public services. You are welcome, in advance.

Recently, one of our fine senior citizen residents received a communication from someone who said he was from "IRS Collections." The dimwit advised our lovely senior resident she owed a sum of $80.00 and she was going to be arrested unless she paid.

Now, as before stated, we are nice people...until you mess with our seniors, kids, residents or otherwise law-abiding folks. We take that personally. I called them, spoke with them, identified myself as a police officer... and things were said to me involving very colorful language and acts. I may have blushed. The fellas there have no fetchin' up. Oh...and they are NOT with the IRS. Shocking, yet true.

I am going to provide you all with the phone number of the scammers, as a public service. It is certainly NOT for all 160,000 of you to call and overload their phones, because...well, I would NEVER suggest that. We will say it is a heads up from the Brimfield Police Department Mope Reduction Team.

So...if someone calls you from "IRS Collections," and the number is 1-888-392-8421...it is a scam artist and thief who is preying on your fear of the IRS.

Have a splendid day...Chief Oliver. Brimfield PD
