I always get phone calls from this number even late in the evenings and on weekends. I answered once and some man with an Indian accent asked for my husband which was not around at the time. I asked what this was regarding and he kept telling me he could not tell me.

called asking for someone by different name, Started off immediately saying this call is being recorded for MY protection. I asked who they were, and they kept asking who I was. Called the number on my unlisted phone, that number is a scam..doesn't exist. Told them to go 'f' themselves. Wake up people, these are all scam artists and 'phishers' trying to get info on you through an unlisted Google #, OR telephone lines being sold through 'no name' phone companies. THIS can be stopped if we worked in masses.....we DON'T

Answered the call and the first thing she said was that I need to verify my social with them. After I said I wasn't doing that she said we have your social but can you please verify it. She won't say what it was about except she was calling from premier america.

ID themselves a Premier Credit.  Want you to go to Premiercredit.com if you have any problems.  Don't do it.  I tried it and I got some sort of website with a warning.  I immediately logged off and shut down my computer.   The name of this group appears to be Premiere Credit of North America, LLC., based in Indianapolis, IN.   They appear to deal in student loan collection but use questionable methods.

If they call you, demand a debt validation letter be sent you by US mail.  E-mail no good.  If they don't do that simply block their calls and ignore them.

The call was from phone number 888-403-1637. He wanted me to verify the last 4 of my SS number and I refused because he wouldn't say who it was calling or what it was about except to say it was a private and personal matter. Then he wanted me to verify my address which I still refused to do. He still wouldn't say who it was or what about. I told him I wasn't verifying anything without first knowing what it was about and then I hung up.

This is a collection agency.  They must verify they are talking to correct party.  Ask them to give you the last four of your Ssn.  If they are right talk to them, cuz someone, is trying to collect a debt.

    Um.  Not quite right.
Y'see, the bad guys can easily get the last four, so that is really not proof of debt.

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

They keep calling me, and the first time I answered they were looking for some guy named Phil. I told them they have a wrong number, and hung up. They keep calling and when I answer just hang up after 6 seconds. I'm still in high school and I don't even have a credit or debit card.

I've been receiving calls from this number for my daughter's dad. I've told them repeatedly that this is not his number. This evening came up and told me that they had called his bosses personal cell fone asking for him to call them. We have no idea how they got my number or his bosses. Last year his PayPal account was compromised, but Idk if they're connected to that or not. I'm going to have him check his credit.
