This is from HSBC card services.  They are checking on credit card transactions for verification purposes.  I wasn't sure if I should call the # too, so I called the customer service number on the back of my credit card (instead of the 888#) they went through the verification process with me.  I don't believe this # is a scam.  I did have transactions to verify, so I think the number is probably legit.  Just take care of it through the customer service number on the back of your credit card.

I received a call from HSBC claiming to be investigating a security alert. I called them back as it was a message left on answering machine. Their second question was my nine digit social security number so I hung up. Don't know if it was ligit or a scam.

It's legit. I verified with the number on the back of my card. Whew! What a relief.

This is NOT the number on the back of our HSBC cards and they ask for your social security number when you call...that does not seem like a legit practice.  I hung up after they ask for ss#, but I'm guessing they also want to know the security code.  Seems totally fake.

I received this call, called Customer Service, they said "we will never ask for SS#" and that this is a fraud attempt.

Call the standard HSBC number you haver card on the back of you, explain the message you received and give the "priority ID" number they gave you in the message and you don't have to give any full card or SS numbers over the phone.  Messages like this are out of the ordinary and HSBC should realize that when trying to keep their customers security in mind.  I called back and questioned the call and they confirmed the purchases I had made and was off the phone in the 2 minutes.

Had the same message, called the number and was asked to enter my full SS#. Hung up. Called the number on back of the card and talked with customer service. Seems to be legit, but I tried to explain the problem with asking for the full SS#. Seems to go in one ear and out the other, then that provided an opportunity to give me the sales pitch on there credit monitoring service. Yikes.

Anyhow, seems legit, but I'd still call the customer service number.

I called the number on the back of my card and everything was fine. This number is definitely a scam. Customer Service from HSBC said that they never request the full security number but only the last four to identify that you might be who you say you are. Therefore, don't even give out your last four digits to anyone from this number. Give them nothing.

Well, I got the call again and I called the number on the back of my card again. This time I got a customer service rep who verified that 888-416-7319 was in fact one of their numbers, but that there was no activity shown on my old card number, which was the one in question. After hanging up I called the 888-416-7319 number and the rep only asked for my last 4 digits of my social for verification. However, there had been account activity on my old card number and I recognized the business that was trying to legitimately charge my account. I had forgotten to contact the business with my new card number.
I apologize for my previous inaccurate comment. It was based on my first conversation with an HSBC account rep, who would not comment on the phone number in question. The interesting thing is that both reps that I talked to from the number on the back of my card had said there was no attempted account activity on my old number whereas HSBC Security indicated that there actually was attempted activity and they were correct. This allowed me to fix the issue. So, if you get a call from this number, by all means, answer or call it back. They should not need your full social and should only ask for the last 4 numbers.

What's really unfortunate is that there are so many scams out there that people virtually have to assume any attempt to elicit  personal information from an in-calling toll number  must be an attempted fraud.    If companies like HSBC don't take steps to assure customers such account activities checks aren't in fact scams, a lot of people will simply refuse to cooperate.    Who can blame them?

This is not a legitimate business number. They ask for your full social security number and your mother's maiden name. Be very careful. DO NOT call this number. They hang up on you once you gave them all your information. Whoever said that this is confirmed by HSBC is not telling the truth. This is in NO way related to HSBC.

I received a "very important message" from this number to "review recent activity" on my credit card. I was also given an "alert ID #" to reference when I called. I also received similar call 2 days earlier from 1-800-395-7555. I did not call either number but instead called the customer service number on the back of my credit card. The rep told me the calls were legit and actually transferred me to someone in India. They wanted to verify a couple of charges to my account. I would definitely call the custmer service number on the back of your credit card to verify. All and all...a very strange experience.

Received a message from this number.  Haven't used the card in question in 7 years, so called HSBC off of website, and they told me there were no notations on my account.  Closed the account to be safe.  SCAM!

i received a voicemail from this number.  I called HSBC directly (# on the back of my card) and there were no issues with my account and they told me no security calls had been placed to me.  This is a scam.

888-416-7319  That is HSBC.  They, HSBC, will try to sell you any program they can in order to reap even huger profits than they already do. When you go to try and activate a new card they will keep you on the phone as long as they can with them trying to 'telemarket' you to death.  Hang up on them, after they have activated the card, and you may find you have to call them back in order to activate the same card. Yes, you get to listen to their sales pitches if you want, or need, their overpriced, high interest rate cards. They. like any credit card outfit should be avoided when ever possible. I noticed that the call to my cell phone showed ' no number ' and the number for an urgent call back was the above number left on a voice message. Disgusting. I simply called  the customer service number ( on card back ) and that person denied knowing anything about the urgent, "call us back" number, while proceeding to "sell" me all he could, sounded Latino. People have to work, I'm glad I don't have to 'work' for HSBC.

It's a legitimate number for HSBC Security. To be safe, I called the number on the back of my card and they confirmed that there was a questionable transaction that they wanted to verify.

This is definitely a fraudulent phone number. The only recourse we have is to report this number to the FTC registry, which then looks into the case and may fine the fraudulent company $10,000 per offense. here is link: https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

This number is completely a scam. I too received the call on my answering machine. Upon calling back they wanted all of my credit card information, which of course, I did not give them. Then I called the number on the back of my HBSC card to see if it was legit and they told me there was no security issue and the message did not originate from them. DO NOT ever give anyone your credit card information over the phone unless you are completely sure who you are calling!
