Called back from different phone and the man asked what number they had called. Said they were law firm Matthews Middleton & Associates and asked to speak to my someone I once knew, but gave me her maiden name from over a decade ago. That sent up red flags, also, wondering why they would be calling my number when my number is less than a year old. Said they would remove my number from their logs when I said I had no way of contacting their target person. Weird. I think they may just be debt collectors, but if they were trying to reach someone with a maiden name that old the statute of limitation has probably already passed anyway.- Caller: Janet Spencer - Matthew Middleton & Associates
- Brian LeeA recording of a woman named, "Janet Spencer a Licensed Locator"
- Caller: N/A
- MichaelGot the exact same thing. Janet Spencer called and left an "urgent" message. Somehow they found out a few things about me. I called them back and was put on hold several times. They ended up saying there was a judgment against me for attempting to defraud a financial institution. They fished for a little bit of information and then came up with a bogus claim and are trying to settle for an amount that I clearly don't owe.
They say that they're out of Lockton, NY. My wife and I looked up the address and while the address is legitimate, they are not in that building. We looked i tup on the Attorney General's website and they're not even a business. Their so-called "Director of Operations" Diane Weston isn't found anywhere.- Caller: Matthews, Middleton & Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- BrendaI got the same voice mail from Janet Spencer. I went to the Home ESP site and emailed them - they're supposed to be an HOA related business - to let them know people are filing complaints against the number listed on their website and that they might want to look into that. We'll see if anything comes of that!

These businesses are not actively seeking new customers at this time, though the Websites are still online. The 888-number that is listed was indeed our number.

- Called in MichiganReceived phone call from 100-0000 and they left the EXACT same message "this message is being left…Janet Spencer…" I called the 888-848-9495 number and was connected to a man named Elliot Fox. I was upfront saying I believed this was a scam and asked information about their company. He got extremely defensive and threatening and I said I shouldn't believe everything I read on google. He kept asking me if I was a certain person and even gave me the last four of that person's SSN. Talk about breach of information. Said if I wasn't so-and-so that I didn't need to worry about it, but again was very rude. Sounds like the debt collectors I've seen on documentaries.

- Stop the snowReceived voicemail from a 1000000 phone number with a number to call back - 888-484-9495. Ended up talking to a rude man that said I was being sued by an old company for a debt that is over 10 years old. I know my rights and simply said they could send any notification via US mail and I warned that I would be replying as such asking for debt verification and asked if he understood the statute of limitations on zombie debt. He asked for more of my info which I declined and hung up. Yep, seem to be debt collectors all right. Wonder if they are a new company all gung ho about some new debts they may have bought off not knowing they are probably all zombie debts and they lost their chance to collect and now seem to be preying on the unknowing. Even a law firm acting in the capacity of a debt collection firm has to follow the rules.
