- Agent 858 320 1800These fools called the FBI Office in San Diego and I personally am opening a case file on them
- Caller: FBI
- stop callingLeft msg to call back 888-503-1723. Claims I owe a debt from 20 years ago. They gave the date it went on my credit report but suspiciously were 10 years off. The statue of limitations has expired long ago. Do not call back and confirm the account from my understanding they can not sue you in court unless you confirm the debt with them. So you can not agree that you owe the debt or make a payment on it, This is how they trick many people into re-affirming the debt with them. In addition, they can not put this debt back on your credit report once it expired. There are also fraud companies, that look up old debts and then pretend to have bought them to try and get you to pay them money on a debt that they don't have any right to collect. Also, a few days ago I got a msg of possible credit fraud from my debt card. All seems odd.
- Caller: wouldn't give a name

- GRLStating that they received document with complaint that has my other family member name attached to it. Left a complaint # and said to call. I don't think so. How did they get my number? They should call that family member. It has scam all over it!!!
- Caller: Didn't say
- Anon in SeattleRec'd call yesterday 4/8 from 402-609-7643 but was unable to pick up at the time. When I re-dialed, I spoke with a nasty man who demanded a reference number, when I said I'd just hit re-dial to see who called, he told me to check my voicemail. They left a message saying there was a complaint in my name and to call 888-503-1723 find out more. I called and the same [***] answered, said I was being sued by JP Morgan Chase but we could settle this amicably or the police would subpoena me to court, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO? I told him i'd like a little more information please, to which he got upset with me for asking questions and said something nasty and HUNG UP ON ME!
When I later googled the 402 # I saw it's indeed connected with Affordable sewer service in Omaha, NE. and googling the 888 number brought me here. I called the 402 number back later in the day and a woman identifying herself as Monica Hicks answered, also asking for a reference number. As a side note here- later in the day I rec'd a call from an "unknown" number, when I answered, a computerized voice said my credit card has been temporarily frozen, to unlock the card just type in the 16 digit card number. Yea FU#K YOU!- Caller: Scams-R-Us?
- anon in Seattlejust discovered the number goes back to INDIA (see link)

Blocked. - Upset and Confused| 1 replyReceived recorded call today from 310-579-6434, advising of a complaint against me here is the complaint number ######. Call back 888-503-1723. Called number back gave complaint number and was advised that because a Discover card debt that had been charged off probably around 2005 I was about to be taken to court for over $2000 and what was I going to do to about it. I have never had a Discover Card. I argued with the person that I want documentation such as previous addresses, signatures etc. and was advised since this complaint was at this stage that none of that information was available. After spending a good ten minutes on the phone with this individual I hung and blocked the call phone from the 310# and the 888#. SCAMMM
- Caller: Not sure
- Call type: Debt collector
- Alfalfa replies to Upset and ConfusedHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
