My 18 yr. old son has repeatedly been hassled by this company-International Magazine Company. They said he agreed to pay $99 for some magazines none of which he ever received. They did an automatic withdrawal out of his checking acct. We got that straightened out and thought this was cancelled and taken care of but they are back making threats to send this matter to an outside collection agency. Warn your teens--there's no such thing as a free lunch and if a deal sounds too good to be true-it is!

I am dealing with the same thing. They are telling me I have to pay for the magazines anyway and will send it to a collection agency as well. I hope mine works out. I just called my bank so hopefully it will be resolved. I have not received any magazines as of yet.

So is there anyway to stop them from billing me? I just ordered the magazines recently (within 2 business days). Now that I've read this, I've changed my mind about this. Any possible way I can stop them from billing me? A refund is probably out of the question anyways, I just don't want to get scammed.

March, 2008 - recd a phone call on my cell, telling me I was in the running for a million dollars and would receive a real diamond watch if I bought a magazine.  After chatting with the person, he offered to give me 5 other magazines for a trial period at no cost to me.  It would only cost me 4.60 a week, I didn't think that was bad.  Now they just took 80.00 out of my account.  I called this company to tell them I wasn't interested anymore because it would cost to much money and my husband just got laid off from his work.  They didn't care.   They had a nerve to have another person call me that night to tell me about the sweepstakes, I told them I don't want anything from them and cancel what ever I agreed too, because it was a lie.  I contacted my bank, they are investigating

Call them and attempt to cancel - be firm. If you never signed a written contract and returned it to them, let them know (this is what I needed to point out to get them to stop charging me in the future). As for past charges, my credit card company is investigating - I do not know yet whether I will be held liable for the charges, the fraud department said that they didn't think so, but not to worry because they would let me know if I needed to pay.
If they are unwilling to cease charging you, call your credit card company, dispute any charges, and get a new credit card issued.

You don't have to pay for goods you do not receive. Period. What are they going to claim when they call a credit agency? They have no claim against your son if he never received their product.

I got a phone call at roughly 2:30 this afternoon offering me a free watch and a chance to win a million dollers. They than said I also won free 2 year magazine subscriptions if I sign up for one magazine at 4.60 a week. the total would be 18.40 a month if you do the math. I figured 18.40 a month is a bargain for that many magazines. Well About 5 mins into the call I check my credit card account and they have an 80 doller charge on it. I never signed up for anything that was 80 dollers. I Called them several times in which they said that they would return my call call. None of them ever did. I than asked one of there employees in my 6th call to them what there customer service phone number is and its 1-888-670-8870. I tried calling that number and they pretty much run you through the loop again and hang up on you. Well after that I decided to report my credit card stolen and am now disputing the charge with my credit card company who is investigating the situation.

After about 5 hours of calling them I finally got a manager on the phone. It than took me about 40 mins to convince him to revoke the credit charges. Make sure you mention the better bussiness bureau in your call or they will just keep trying to throw numbers at you.

i am a 23 year old full time student with a part time job. i live 2 hours away from home.  this telemarketer called me and told me it was his first day and all this blah blah blah so i listened and answered all the questions. then he told me it was free and i had to pay shipping so i gave my debit card number. they took out almost 80 dollars i called to say i never signed anything and i would like my money back. no they would not revoke the charge. though they said they would drop it to 39.00 a month. well this morning i called the back to get my balance to make sure i had enough gas to get home to see my family.  They did it AGAIN!! i called them again and when i was talking to them i started crying and asked for a manager and lady said she was the manager and i was just trying to talk to her and crying...(I am so upset i cant go home to see my family) and SHE HUNG UP ON ME!! i am out of ideas!!!

I was at my mother's house. When I receive a (withheld) phone call with a young guy telling me that I was just entered to win $1 million..I said ok. Then he says I'm new at this job and say to me just bear with him. I said okay..then he said something about a watch with diamond in it and said it was mine for free..then he asked for my debit card number and said I will have to pay a (monthly) fee of 4.65.I said cool. Then this guy says I'm going to have to have his supervisor call me back just to make sure he took all the info down correctly. I said okay..I get a call about 20min later from a female supervisor asking me was the guy polite and all this [***] and I said yeah. Then she was going over info about what the male was talking about and she was like did he inform you that it was $4.65 a (week)thats when I was like I want to cancel the whole order, that's when she kept asking me why do you want to cancel I told the woman plenty of sometimes that it's my choice. Now remember this is a supervisor I'm talking to.Then I told her she does not have the right to question my opinion.. she became irate.. called me a [***] [***] and then hung up.. no because she wanted rip someone off now the company is under review by the FBI.....they stole 79.23

After reading these posts I feel like a moron. I recieved the same call about being entered into a million dollar sweepstakes and getting a diamond watch because I own a VISA card. I just had to subscribe to a few magazines (4.65 a week). I told them I'm a student and can't afford that amount. They said they'd bump it down to one payment of $99 and I'll get a welcome package in the mail in a few days with the info about the watch and all that. I agreed and gave him my debit card number. I was contacted several times to confirm the information including my address, number, and everything. This all happened over the course of 2 days (June 18th-19th). I looked online this evening at my bank account and found out I had already been billed twice. $200!! I tried calling the company but they are closed already so I'll try tomorrow and attempt to fix this.

Same story for me,they called, millionbucks, new employee, diamondwatch, five magazines per month. Now I don't really read magazines except the ones that the specific  lady mentioned. So I bought it, sceptically mind you, and she said that it was 4 something a week and if you do the math, that is around the price for five mags. I called up my bank and told them that I wanted a stop payment, so theguy said that there is no way to stop on debit so he just cancelled my card instead. If they don't have my card, they don't have money :P.

I as well just cancelled my card but my bank told me to go ahead and call them back anyway to try to get it taken care of. Next time my phone says unknown I'm just going to answer and immediately cuss them out. I don't care if it's the president himself.

WOW.  I got scammed.  I got a call on my way back to work on tuesday from this magazine place saying i'd been entered to win a million dollars, get a free watch and like 5 magazines for the price of 1.  it seemed like a good deal to me, so i gave my number, two days later my count is pos pending 80$.   Which leaves me 4$ in my account.  I am currently in the process of moving, my last day at work is the 1st and i don't have another job lined up.  I take it to the bank, but because I did give them my number that's saying that i authorized it. =(  SO yea,  now i'm broke, and have no idea how i'm going to get back to stl.

i did however cancel my debit, and i'm recieving a new card.

    sucks!

Well, after reading this post, I'm going to make changes. First off, they called me on my cell phone telling me that I am a million dollar winner.  The guy made a plan for me of 24 monthly payments of $39.87. Just $956.88 which is 4.60 a week. It sounded fair, but I had a gut feeling not to trust them. Stupily, I just agreed for the order he offered.
I ask who was calling. They did not say, or even give me a phone number till I gave them my account number. After this, a superviser talked to me to explain the procedure. I ask if this was a gimmick because I was trick before from a fake company; they were sued. He said that he worked with 100 customers; he sounded scared. What! That's not even enough, and may be 100 unhappy customers. However I did recieve a signature form to confirm my award in the mail. I will not sign it, but the problem is that they have my account number. They better shut up and leave me alone. I don't play around with low rank liers. They may be next. If not me,  hopefully someone else to stop them. I don't trust them.

Hi! This situation just happened to my husband as well, today I just had an argument with the three ladies that take the calls from the company. First they took 79.93 dollars from our account he called and told them that he did not want the subscription to this company and magazines. They refunded the money back I told him that the account was canceled, but today the overdrawn my account to -30 dollars. I called and told them that I was enough that we wanted the account to be canceled and the three ladies said that they wouldn't give the money back, that they were losing money, that he was a payment late and he hasn't received any magazines.
Please write me back I want a solution. A very good friend that I work for, she is a very good lawyer, one of the best from Michigan. I am thinking of taking it to the next level. This is not fair.
