- rinsown| 1 replyThese people claim to be a company called URG. when you google the number it comes up as the elpaso child support division. They refuse to give me a fax or a phone number and refuse to tell me what URG stands for. This is NOT* the the number for united recovery group but when you ask the person who answers... they will tell you that it is. i sent them a cease and desist letter and they responded to me saying that they do not have my case number on file and that they receive a lot of calls from people who are looking for URG. They are a bill collector and have threatened to take me to court but yet they refuse to accept my payment arrangement as they are requesting for a "LARGER" settlement. They have also contacted my family members and threatened to put a lien on my mortgage and freeze my bank accounts. i want them to stop harrassing me but they refuse to give me contact information and i cant find anything online!

- rinsownSo these people continue to call my father leaving threatening messages that they will be serving me with a judgement if i don't call them back. (mind you- they already have my contact information at this point but they still bother my dad). i called them back and asked them again what URG stands for and again they refused to tell me. They also refused to give me a fax number and an address. When i told them (or him) my so called case manager- that i faxed in a cease and desist letter he responded by saying " you didn't fax us anything" i then informed him that i called yesterday to ask if the name of this company was united recovery group and was informed that it was and so i sent a fax and an email based on the information in found online. He then became very angry and stated "Oh so you are that stupid ignorant person who filed a complaint against us online!!!! are you confirming that? WELL! now we are going to sue you for fraud" ....
somewhere in the conversation while he was yelling his head off - i told him that i was unable to locate any information on their company and he said "of course not... we don't advertise that. i don't know any other collection agency that does" .... but they claim to be united recovery group who does in fact have a website. Hey! Mr. Goldstein - since you read up on these posts. answer my calls and quit sending me to voicemail! i need your fax number and the mailing address to your company!- Caller: URG

- serenitytwinsThis same company "URG" called my mom today with this same story. The man's name was "Josh" and he said he was collecting on a credit card debt from 10 years ago. He said that he was going to garnish 35% of my mom's wages. I guess he didn't do his research because in Texas, we don't get our wages garnished unless it is child support or student loans. Anyway, he had my mom really upset and she ended giving him information that he had no business having. I called "Josh" back later this evening and he proceeded to cuss me out. I guess I struck a nerve when I told him that I knew this was a scam. Needless to say it doesn't end there. My parents have been divorced for 20+ years and "Josh" called my stepmom and asked if my mom lived there. Once again, he didn't do his research. He proceeded to interrogate her about her and my dad's finances. This is quite the scam and I think this is the beginning of it. But, "Josh" needs to know that he has been figured out and if he calls you, don't give him your personal info. Some people, like my mom are very trusting people and thinks that there are not "bad" people in this world. Welcome to 2012.

- burns5539| 1 replyI had this happen to me yesterday. They called my workplace, my home phone, and the home phone of my mother. These guys are very intimidating and forceful on the phone. They were insisting that I pay them for an old debt on a college credit card that was settled in 2005 and has been long removed from my credit report.
They were full of threats including everything from putting a lien on my mortgage to garnishing my wages. The claimed a letter was sent to me and I did not respond (I never recieved a letter) so the "case" was awarded a no contest and refusal to pay so they are now suing me.
They told me (and my human resources manager) that I would be served papers by the end of business day tomorrow at my workplace.
They were well aware of my current credit standing (excellent) and even went so far as to note that I had plenty in my current credit line to either get a loan or pay the disputed balance with one of my credit cards.
I immediately asked for an address or a fax number so I could send them proof that the account was resolved years ago.
When I mentioned that the account wasn't on my credit report (via equifax), the guy got irritated and very threatening.
He refused to provide an address or fax number and noted that he didnt have a fax (what company doesnt have a fax machine?). He noted that even if he did have a fax machine, he would not give me the number. At that moment, he hung up the phone...
Needless to say, I wasnt able to sleep last night as a direct result of my blood boiling...
What do I do? I would like to serve this guy papers of his own on charges of deformation of character...- Caller: URG

- GA MomI just had a call on my cell that showed up as "Unknown". A "Danny Smith" left a message that I need to contact him about a case pending against me and that its urgent that I return the call. After reading comments here, I'm not sure I want to. I've never received anything about a debt owed to anyone other than current bills.

- jenfSo, I called the guy back and this is the conversation.....It's really, really long, so I may have to break it up.
Operator: Good Afternoon, you’ve reached the offices of URG, How can I direct your call?
Me: Can I speak to Neil Goldman
O: Yes Mam, Can I tell him who’s calling?
Me: I have a case number or you can just give him my name
O: Uh, well I can expedite your call faster with that case number
Me: 03-------
O: Let me see here, calling in reference to Jennifer *******
Me: Yes
O: Ok, let me get you over to Mr. Goldman
NG: Good afternoon, this is Neil, how can I help you?
Me: This is Jennifer calling again
NG: Hey Jennifer
Me: I saw that you got the payment, the $200 payment
NG: Yep
Me: Ok and I just wanted to make sure that the summons and the court case is cancelled.
NG: The summons and court case is pending until the last payment goes through in Oct.
Me: Ok
NG: So yeah, you don’t have nothing to worry about, you just got to be very consistent with all these payments and you’re good. Did you get the email?
Me: Um, yeah, I wanted to ask you some questions about that.
NG: Sure ask away
Me: Ok, umm, it said the balance was $4693
NG: Yeah, the reason why it says that is because that’s you’re settlement amount
Me: That’s the settlement amount.
NG: Well I don’t even know what your settlement amount was, what was your settlement amount
Me: I know when I first talked to you, you said I was been sued for over 6,000
NG: I don’t even remember it, let me pull it up, let me pull up the letter, give me a second
Me: Ok
NG: Alright, 03------ (case #) right
Me: Yes sir
***He takes a long time***
Then says give me one second
Me: Ok
NG: My computer is a little slow, man these work computers I tell you, seems like the ones at the house work better than it does at work
Me: Yeah, well I bring my computer to work with me
NG: Oh, you actually get to use a laptop
Me: Yeah when I’m not busy, I was pretty busy yesterday
NG: We got these big desktop computers and boy those things, the more memory you have on them, it’s ridiculous…Ok, here it is
Your original settlement was for $4,693.67, that’s why it said that was the balance, because whenever I’m saying you’re being sued for this certain amt. it has court costs, attorney fees and we have to pay the processor his money to serve the documents
Me: And that’s $6, ---- and something
NG: Yeah, $6700
NG: Our original settlement was for the 46, so that’s why I put the balance of your original settlement because that was pretty much the amt that we could list it as paid in full,
NG: Ok but we’re settling for the $3947 but if you want to pay the 46, it would give you more points on your FICO score but honestly you don’t have too. I mean we updated as paid in full with the $3947
Me: Ok, so the 6700, that’s how much I was being sued for.
NG: Yes because it has court costs, attorney fees, and the process server fees
Me: Ok, so the court case is pending, so that means if I miss a payment….
NG: Yeah, so that basically means that, and don’t take this as disrespect but if anything declines, we have to have you served the next day
Me: Ok
NG: What I think you setup, you’re pretty comfortable with it, right?
Me: I don’t know, because I figured it was the 6700.....(cuts me off, he does that a lot)
NG: Well it was 6700, the 4693 was your original settlement but we renegotiated the settlement, the reason why we have to have 46 on there is, is because that’s the same amt that was quoted to you as the original settlement, when we mailed the letter out 6weeks ago in March
Me: Ok
NG: I can’t increase your settlement just because the letter expired, legally I have to adhere to the original agreement that we were offering you
Me: Ok and umm, how does it add up to that much, like, the card was just 800….
NG: Yeah, we already talked about that, we already went over that ----something that has interest in it.
Me: I mean the last time that anybody tried to contact me about it was like a $1000 or $2000
NG: NO, we talked about this for about 18mins a couple of days ago, I mean, I told you these interest rates; a credit card acct., it cannot accumulate more interest than the principal value and this has been defaulted for about 5 years or 6 years, so the interest rates has been 26.39% within that time and it’s gotten to the point to where the interest amt has not met or exceeded the principal amt., it’s just below it.
Me: Oh, so...
NG: That’s the reason why it’s so high
Me: I figured once the card was closed or the acct was cancelled that they stopped charging the interest.
NG: That’s why you gotta read the contract because what it’s called is the default interest rate, whenever there is any umm, whenever there’s any sort of default or goes into collections or stop paying on it, that’s why these creditor’s hire collection agencies to collect it for them, that’s when that interest rate skyrockets, ok, but we bought it from clout, we bought it from them. We’re not a collection agency.
Me: Ok, so when it says that our client is willing to settle, that’s you guys or …….
NG: That’s us
Me: Ok, Collection Agency? NO?
NG: No, we’re not a collection agency but you know we have people in our department because we have a legal department, we have an accounting dept, and then we have a collection dept., so this was basically on one my collector’s dept., so basically that’s why obviously it was an attempt to collect a debt, it wasn’t from me or you know our legal dept. but it was from the collection dept.
Me: Ok,
NG: Does that make since to you
Me: Yeah, I guess, ok umm and it says this is the correct address, if I send a payment can I send it to this address.
NG: If you send what….
Me: Could you give me….
NG: Well you’re not sending, you’re not doing anything, we’re debiting the acct. on those dates
Me: Ok
NG: Yeah you’re not mailing nothing, we’re withdrawing it from your debit card, the same arraignments that I secured with you the other day. So don’t let anything decline, because then we have to put you back up for servers, so stick to those arraignments like Velcro.
Me: Ok, so that’s pending though right, the court case and the summons
NG: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s pending, if everything goes through fine, which I’m sure it will because you set up these arraignments because you want to get it resolved…umm if everything goes through fine, we’re good.
Me: Ok
NG: And all those dates that I have are correct right?
Me: Yeah I haven’t really just went over those yet
Me: So there’s going to be no checking accts garnished or all of that.
NG: There’s going to be no wage garnishment, no bank levy, no liens on autos, or none of that, it’s pending, contingent upon you actually making good on these arraignments and so far you’re 100%
Me: Ok, umm, is there, well, could you send me a copy of that letter that you sent before or no.
NG: Yeah that letter has actually been voided out, I don’t have a hard copy of that because it’s manually created by our accounting dept and she sent out those letters and its not like we keep a database, it’s just sent out to you
Me: Ok,
NG: But that contract that you have, I mean that’s your legal binding contract, that’s all you’re going to be charged.
Me:Ok, um yeah…
NG: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Me: Well I think that’s just…. the original thing that I was told was that it was 6700….(He never lets me finish this statement out)
NG: If you want me too, I can send you another letter with the court costs, att fees, and all that in there, but I’m going to have to settle it for 4693.67, if you wanna do that I’ll regenerate another letter and we’ll just add some more payments on there, if that’s fine with you, that’s fine with me too
Me: My question is, is that you said 6 weeks ago…(Can’t finish)
NG: I SAID THAT….
Me: You said…
NG: IM NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE JENNIFER BUT IT’S AT THE POINT NOW WHERE YOU’RE TAKING ME AWAY FROM RUNNING MY OFFICE RIGHT NOW, OK
Me: But 6 weeks ago….
NG: BASICALLY YOU’RE BEING SUED FOR $6,794, OK
Me: Ok but how
NG: DO YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO CONVERSATION - REWIND TWO DAYS AGO
Me: Yeah…
Me: How is that possible…..
NG: LETS START ALL OVER…YOU’RE BEING SUED
Me: Ok
NG: WE’RE SUING YOU FOR $6,794, YOU DIDN’T RESPOND TO THE LETTER, WE ALREADY TOOK IT TO COURT, WE GOT THE JUDGEMENT RENDERED AGAINST YOU, EFFECTIVE YOUR NEXT PAY PERIOD, WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A WAGE GARNISHMENT ORDERED AT 35%, WE’VE ALREADY BEEN IN CONJUCTION WITH THE FINANCIAL INSTITUTION YOU’RE BANKING WITH, SO SOON AS YOU’RE SERVED, IF YOU WANT I CAN HAVE THEM COME OUT THERE THIS AFTERNOON, I DON’T REALLY EVEN CARE, UMM, BUT WE CAN ENFORCE THESE ORDERS
Me: Ok, well there’s…
NG: WHATEVER YOU WANNA DO AT THIS POINT, I REALLY DO NOT CARE
Me: How...
NG: CAUSE I’M GOING TO GET MORE MONEY IN THE LONG RUN BUT I WILL TRY TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF PROFESSIONAL COURTESY BY OFFERING YOU THE SETTLEMENT BECAUSE YOU CALLED ME, I DIDN’T CALL YOU.
Me: See this is the thing; I don’t have a court case against me
NG: MAM, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
Me: I don’t have a court case against me
NG: LET’S LAY IT ALL OUT ON THE TABLE, LET’S GET REAL, WHAT’S GOING ON, JENNIFER, ARE YOU BACKING OUT, I DON’T CARE
Me: Yeah, I don’t have a court case against me
NG: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO
Me: This is illegal what you’re doing
NG: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO JENNIFER
Me: I’ve already handled it
NG: I’M GONNA GO

I got a call from the today and they told me I had a debt from 2000 with the last activity being about 7 years ago. They then proceeded to tell me they had sent me several letters, to an address in a state I don't live in. The man on the phone claimed that he was an attorney and stated that it didnt matter if the debt actually belonged to me since i had had ample time to handle it and dispute it and now they were taking me to court. However, the statute of limitations has already run out on this phony debt by this phony debt collector.

- Notnecessary| 1 replyMy son received a call for me from these people and I asked for details of what they had and requested that all information be sent to me immediately. He asked if the last 4 digits of my social were XXXX and I said no. He asked if my birth date was XXXX and I said no. He said I don't know why Kimberly Alvarez called your son then if this is not you. Kimberly Alvarez he said is their server/processor. I said I don't know where she got her information from, but the information you just gave me is not ME. He said he would note it on the file but that he was perplexed on how my son was contacted. I said I didn't know and repeated that all I knew is that the information he just gave me was not me. I asked for his name and explained that I was keeping record of our conversation and he at first didn't want to give it to me and he finally said it was Brian. So from reading the other posts, I can assume that it may not be his name. He did say in the beginning of the conversation that they were a Law Firm that buys debt. Sounds like shady business to me. Anyway DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFO OR MONEY UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL THE DOCS
- Gary replies to NotnecessaryThanks for the info all! I received a call from someone telling me to call them back. Mean while I researched my credit report and found that I did not owe anyone. Anyhow, no one ever even answered the phone when I called them. Reading the postings from everyone has been helpful. Thanks a lot!
