Collection person saying they're a lawyer from a firm called Thompson and Thompson.   Very Nasty towards me and they weren't very understanding of my current situation.  I'm pregnant with 4 weeks to go till due date of Christmas Day.   Not working now and Husband only makes enough to put food on table and pay bills.   Absolutely no extra money to give out at this time.  Calling on old credit card from 5-7 or more years ago.

Call from person saying they're a lawyer from a firm called Thompson and Thompson. Would note give details of firm they represented. Informed them if they called again and could not give information concerning the firm they represent I will report them to the better business bureau

Got a call at work this afternoon and have yet to call back.  Claimed they were from the Law firm of Thompson and Associates and one of their clients had filed a lawsuit this past week...I have no idea what this is about.

I received a letter saying they were retained by "PROFESSIONAL RECOVERY SYSTEMS, LLC" and the original creditor was "instantcashloantillpayday.com" I am certain this is fraud seeing as I have NEVER taken out a loan by anyone other than my bank.

Claimed they were from the Law firm of Thompson and Associates,
called twice in a row, message left about "a complaint filed against me"


Old merger/layoff related, defaulted credit account that should be approaching 7yrs old now.

This number keeps calling on my home phone which is unlisted saying it's imprtant I call, but leaves no name and I looked up the # on Google. I owe nobody anything and will not get the hint of quit calling. Don't trust this caller if it appears on your caller ID or answering machine..."SCAMMERS"

2 years ago I was broke and was unable to have a regular bank account and so I used a common check cashing place called Money Mart in the city of Sacramento. I was given a bad check; cashed it, and incurred the charges but was unable to pay them back. I had forgotten about this until I got a phone call from a dude with the above mentioned name and 'firm'

He started off cordially but after awhile he explained to me that the company money mart was going to pursue a court date and wanted 3x the amount of the check unless I paid.

So , I was like (...uh...) @#$%!  'Well I did mean to pay it back even though the circumstance was...'

'Yes I know, the check bounced ... '
'...and these are the references you put on your app for money mart'
'...and these are your addresses for...'
'...and this is the place that your worked...'

etc etc...(its going into the realm of sensitive info if it aint there already.)

'Well... (*I thought the amount isnt all that much if i just pay it back maybe I can avoid this !@#$) ... so how about I send a check or go through Western Union'

The guy starts to push

says something about the info being cleared and by then itll be too late and he's trying to save me some trouble.

I let emotions get the best of me... you see Ive finally climbed out of the hell whole id been in 2 years ago and now this was threatening my chance ... so lets pay the guy off and be done with it.

'So what do you need, how do I pay this'

'give me information and we can do this over the phone... do you have a checking account?'


'yeah'

'I need the routing number , the account number the name of the bank, the date of the check and the check number, and your name as it appears on the check'

(I did so)

'So thats it'
'Yeah, call me if you have any questions or concerns'

'They wont pursue any further legal actions?'
'no thats it'

and then, he tells me the last 4 digits of my ssn. As to throw it in my face. *we got ya, we know who you are*

Its been a day and a half since that call. Ive checked my bank account and the balance is still okay. The agreed transaction is not supposed to occur until Thursday, this 3rd week of September, 08 .

Some gaps and the way that he explained things, Ive got a much better view of what was in fact going on, using some hindsight. The fact that he said the info would clear, the number itself, and the sounds' around him give me the impression it was like a telemarketing, collection agency thing and had nothing to do with being a lawyer firm. I had suspected, as well as others, that money mart itself or its employees would use client sensitive info or sell that info to someone else. Why it took this long to have an effect on me I dont know. Errr.. (there was that one time a background check showed me as being a 30 year old hispanic woman in miami... which caused me not to get hired , and this happened shortly after I first applied ad money mart.

Anyway, Watch out. Dont get bullied... and in about 2-3 days from the 23rd of september, feel free to call this [***] his extension is 106... if it is legitimate.

I feel like such an idiot now, after reading how people have been scammed through electronic checks. I thought about it an hour after the phone call and wondered if I had just given a pretender some kind of blank check wherein he can tally $$$$ whatever the @#$% he wants. So far thats not the case and hopefully this past debt will be resolved. Anyway ill know in a couple days and take precautions tomorrow to prevent possible abuse.

This company is a total scam.  "Mr. Washington" called me from a restricted number and left this has his contact info.  Says he is not a lawyer, but is with a law firm called Thompson & Associates.  Tried to collect on debt we did not owe.  When I started working directly with the cell company to resolve this issue he got very upset with me and hung up saying "he did not have time to work with me if I wasn't going to resolve this". Got even more upset when I told him I would just send the letter from Peak Credit Services (the company his law firm claims to represent) directly to my attorney to deal with.

I have having the same issue with Peak Credit.  It is totally invalid and my cell phone provider said not to respond to Peak.  Please contact me with the lawyer you use - if they are trying to be legit.  Maybe we can get a suit together since I believe this is happening to more people than just us.

CALLING MY JOB AND ALSO CALLING MY CELL PHONE SAYING THAT THEY ARE FROM A LAW OFFICE. I DONT EVER ANSWER ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS IF I DONT KNOW THAT NUMBER!!!

Voice Mail message at work.  Said her name was Mrs. Morris and she was calling on behalf of Thompson Law that I needed to call 888-688-2977 ext114.

I received a computer generated call at work at about 2:30 pm telling me to call this number 888-688-2977 and reference account number 68174696.  No idea what the account number referrs to. No name left on the message.  I didn't call back nor do I plan to not after reading these notes left by others receiving calls from this number.

yeah i just got the same phone except he some how called me at my work. not quite sure what this is but it is a total scam!

I received a call about three weeks ago. was nasty. said they represented a company with which i have a payday account. the company name was valid and the amount they said I owed was true, I really was delinquent  so I went ahead to get this ting settled. We made arrangements to make for monthly payments to which the first one has already been done.
The day the first payment was to go through, the company which i have the account with called me to inquire on my ability to settle my debt.
I told them that this firm called me and said they were representing them. The payday company said the never had legal firm representing them in the matter. They asked me to call my bank and cancel the transaction but it had already gone through. I called the above reported number and when I said I knew they were scamming they hung up.
As I write this I just received a letter from them saying they are going to debit my account on 05/13/09 for the other payment.
I have a case file number with my bank which i am going to use to report it to the Fraud Dept at the police department.

ORL- Just go on with your life they are scammers. I get a variety of these calls pertaining to my daughter she is in her 20's and if it wasnt for me she would pay anyone cause they make threats.

Thanks to everyone for sharing! I got this call today at work, so I listened to the message, which made no sense.  I have two old credit cards I opened in the late 1990's, and some debt collectors bought these old debts.  Now, these cards had limits.  One was at $300, and the debt collectors claimed I now owed about $1700.  The other had a limit of $500, and that debt collector said I now owed $5070.  Keep in mind- these debts are about 9- 10 years old!

Somehow, both of these debt collectors put the debts on my credit report again!  One was put on in Feb 2009, and the other in Sept 2008.  It's incredible that these crooks are allowed to mark your credit report after you went through the seven years AND sell your debt to some slimy crooks who then LIE about what you owe, jack up the price, and then get to ruin your life for 7 more years!  It's also not fair.  If I pay by having my credit messed up for years, and when it's done, they get around the laws by selling an old debt to another collection agency!  

I thought this call may be from some slimy scumbags.  I can see now that it is.  I've contacted an attorney, and I'm checking into suing the debt collectors.  It's clear there are laws being violated, and no one feels they have recourse or are too afraid to say something.  In this economy, NONE OF US CAN AFFORD TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!

Just got a call from this number from a person who stated they worked for Thompson and Ass. asking for a Michelle Costa.  When I explained he had the wrong number, he stated "no I don't".  I again told him he has the wrong number, he stated "No I don't, I'm calling for Michelle Costa, I spoke with her two days ago from this number".  I explained that it was impossible, but he continued.  I asked his business, and he stated he was collecting on behalf of Bristol County Sheriffs (Massachusetts).  I explained to him that I was a city police officer (no BS there) and that he positively, had the wrong number.  When I began to question him, he hung up.

Yah, I got a call today from Thompson and Associates saying they were calling my county to start the process to sue me.  I answered and the man on the phone cussed me and yelled.  He was talking about things I have never even HEARD OF>  It upset me and my husband called back to speak with a manager.  They are unprofessional in so many ways
