We're waiting... - Simon| 3 repliesRefinanced an 80/20 new home mortgage in 2005. United one equities, crystal, started calling and sending letters in 2010 saying we owed for a 2nd mortgage! We paid off our 20 (the second) in 2005. They have placed a lean on our home for this "unpaid" pd mortgage just in 2015...called attorney, said it is not legit. They purchased pd off debt from when the company we pd off went bancrupt. We owe nothing but our first mortgage. No credit reporting ever (except for pd off second) by this company....now they sent a letter saying we owe them double!!!! Have reported them and they continue to harrass us....they are debt collecters for non exsistant companies....

- BigA replies to SimonReal estate law and loans are complicated and vary by state. You should work through an attorney that is qualified to handle this. You may have to sue them. While this isn't covered under regular debt collection laws, the following two agencies may be able to assist you:
Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
