    Just received a call from this number today on my work phone.  Claiming 1) Charges of Fraud and 2) Wage Garnishment but I needed to CALL to verify some information?!  Which is it?  They are becoming smarter by using a common American-type people but if you know your rights as an AMERICAN you KNOW THAT YOU SHALL ONLY receive warrants in debt or fraudulent claims  AS NOTARIZED LETTER NOT A CALL FROM THE DEBTOR and DEFINATELY NOT SOME 3rd PARTY ORGANIZATION. THIS IS ALL THE SAME ELEMENTS OF THE ORIGINAL  SCAM THAT I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH SINCE I STARTED WORKING!!!  REMEMBER the very important messages from the Federal Bureau Investigation Collections Agency and the  so called- Autobahn GROUP.  THEY ARE ONE AND THE SAME-GOOD OL' Fashion SCAM!!!

    I received a vague message on my personal phone about a judgment and garnishment against me. I did not return the call. Today I received a call at work, same company. Stating there is a judgment against me in a State I have not lived in in over ten years and wanting to verify my social, etc. When I refused to give him any information he was very rude and said he was going to forward the garnishment to my payroll department. Little does he know I work for an attorney and we do collection work. DO NOT let these people intimidate you into making any kind of payment arrangements. Even valid debts have to go through a process. No one can make a claim of fraud against you and just request a garnishment without an entire court process. BEWARE though, they are tricky and have information they should not. I am not sure how they had old addresses or any numbers for me.

    @ concerned citizen..I find it very hard to believe that because you ignored a call, you are now being garnished. There are laws that protect consumers and you salary can not be garnished without you being notified via certified mail informing you that
    there is a judgement against you.

    These people have called me repeatedly for weeks, they claim to have a judgment against me. They have called my father who they freaked out. They have called my place of empolyment as well. I do not believe I owe them any money and I don't understand what they're supposedly claiming that I did. It scares me and I don't know what they can and can not do. I have googled 'American Restitution Mediation' and nothing comes up. So I am totally confused and since I've been tricked before I just think it's a scam, just as is being claimed here. But they scare me.

    I also am receiving calls, they leave nothing specific just threaten me with legal action, and have been calling for weeks, they wont stop. They leave no name or anything just say its an attempt to collect a debt. This is either a scam or some illegal debt collector. I will sue when I find out who they are, I have saved all of their threatening messages.

    IT IS A SCAM
    The organization who owns the phone number: 1-888-710-4273, is Audubon and Liberty Group. Both of these two organizations are owned by one company/person. How I know? They left a message on my voicemail  today with their phone number: 1-855-935-3681. I know 855-935-3681 belongs to them because Audubon used the 855- hotline many times to harass me with fake debt that I do not owe. The Audubon has many 800 numbers and we all know that they illegal debt collectors. Beware of them, don't send any of your personal information and money.

    i do not work for american restitution. they are in new york, as research has provided. i live in florida. no reason for ridicule ona  secure site simply because of ignorant disbelief. maybe if we all took care of our responsibilty instead of running from money we owe it would be simply taken care of. i paid my judgment off with my christmas bonus, and just receievd a notification that the ganishment has stopped. i did recieve a written notice via mail, but after contacting a.r.m., i was advised thhe provision of a voluntary arrangement was nullified. sorry if thereis no belief of this. please refer to the link below if oyu do not believe what i have stated

    You're right we don't believe you.  It is a violation of the FDCPA to threaten people with garnishment, judgments and the like without going through the legal process.  People get calls and they don't even owe the money.

    From the FTC -

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
