- grrrrrrr| 1 replyThese callers targeted my business line, saying that they were from Qwest wanting to give us a 35% discount. After much persistence on my part, they gave up their phone number: 888-725-2299. I put the caller on hold long enough to find out they have a habit of calling people trying to unknowingly get people to give up their phone service to this other company. They are very convincing! Tried to get my date of birth even. Beware!
- Caller: C1 Network (may have been a bogus name)
- Call type: Telemarketer
- DustinThis is the "customer service" number that was given to me during a similar phone call. I asked enough questions about where they worked and such that they gave up and hung up. After calling AT&T (my phone provider) they verified that the call didn't come from them and they were able to put a freeze on my long distance so that it can't be changed from AT&T.
- Caller: Scam artists
- Call type: Telemarketer
- DavidCalled to give a 35% discount on all future bills from qwest. After much discussion, II finally got his employee ID nummber and when I called to verify his employment, all I ever got was a busy signal. I don't know what Michael was selling. But when I called Qwest, they said they will never ask for birthdates. So I assume this is a scam.
- Dave Wagner| 1 replyThey also call claiming to work Verizon. When you ask for whom they work they get hostile.
I received a call from a man with a very thick accent who claimed that his name was Michael. When I asked him his last name, he hesitated and then came up with "Smith." I have just confirmed with Verizon that they are not giving people 35% off their business phone bill (shocking, I know). - valsame thing just happen to us BEWARE!!!!
- TMZThese people are still at it... Instead now they are blocking the number being really rude and saying that they are calling to confirm your discounts with AT&T.. SCAMMERS!
they sound like they are in India..- Caller: AT&T
- qwTotal scam. I asked them repeatedly for the name of the company where they were calling from and they couldn't seem to give me one. Just that they were calling on behalf of AT&T to reduce our bill. They transferred me 3 different times and gave me the 888-725-2299 number so I could call back. What really made me think something was up was when they asked for my date of birth, the exact spelling of my first and last name and even my mother's maiden name! Couldn't believe it. Total scammers. Glad I didn't give anything more than my name.
- WB| 1 replyMy office received this call also. Unfortunately someone DID give out their name and dob. I called Verizon and they DO NOT offer these discounts. My account is now passworded but I do not know what will happen to my employee who gave out personal information. Please advise.
- Caller: Verizon
- MGSThis guy called me back 3 times after I hung up on him. But his number was blocked - same scam though. Said AT&T was offering a 35% discount but I couldn't understand half of what he was saying. I said not interested and he kept calling back. Asked for my name, dob, mother's maiden - what a chump - like I'd give that out.
- Caller: unknown - said he was AT&T
- JHSame happened to me just now an indian ladytold me about 35% discounts asked for my name and job and after telling her my birthdate she then starts asking facebook info that's when I hung up . Sounds very fishy
- Call type: Telemarketer
- mj replies to WBdid anything ever happen to your employee with her information or to your account?
- K.S.Same thing happened at our business, a lady with a strong Indian accent called and said that she was with Verizon and they are offering 35% discount to keep and get new customers with Verizon, she then proceeded to ask for my name which I gave her and then she asked for my DOB, I told her if she was with Verizon she would not need my DOB then she started on about how she needed it for this and that and I told her if she was asking for my DOB she might as well have asked for my SSN and she wasnt getting it and hung up on her. She has called back 3 more times today asking to speak to the office manager.
- Caller: Said it was Verizon
- AM| 2 repliesThis also just happened to me at my business. Coincidentally, we had just moved locations and had nothing but problems with our new Verizon phone/internet, so when the caller explained a 35% discount, I thought it had something to do with that. Creepy part is, he knew the phone number, business name and address. I gave him my name, with spelling...but not my DOB (which he asked for) AND he also asked for my mothers maiden name. When i said I absolutely was not giving him that information he hung up. Now I'm worried I gave him my name. Anyone else have any issues after this happened??
- Caller: Said he was from Verizon
- Ben replies to AMJust got the same call, saying it was AT&T, offering a 35% discount on my phone service starting next month. The woman said this was just a "courtesy call" to confirm my information to make sure the discount was put in place. I gave my name but refused to give a DOB or mother's maiden name, and asked if I could just call AT&T back directly, so I could verify that she was with AT&T. I had previously asked if she was an actual employee of AT&T, and she said yes. When I asked if I could call back, she said "sure just call me back," and hung up. But I had just told her that her number showed up as "unknown."
In any case, clearly a scam... just glad I didn't provide anything more than a name. I can't imagine they could do much damage with a name and phone number, since that information in my case is public anyway. - AnonymousI keep on getting these calls 3 times each day. I've tried being patient and letting them go on with their spiel, I've asked for their managers... those punks just constantly hang up on me! I hate when they call! But, they call from a 000-000-0000 number, so I can't call back. I've tried calling this 888 number, but it's just a busy signal. I wish it would just stop!
- Caller: AT&T and Verizon
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Office Administrator replies to grrrrrrrThey contacted our church office and did the same thing and they will NOT stop calling though we've called them on the scam now several times and told them to stop calling or we'd have them arrested for harassment. Now their number comes up "unknown". I have had to stop answering the numbers that come up "Unknown" and screen them, if they leave a message I answer, if they don't leave a message it's these scam artists. They even lied and tried to tell me it was the first time they'd ever called but they have harassed us now for 6 and counting phone calls. And they do not say they are from Qwest now, they now say they are from Verizon and they are using Cell Phones and persistently changing the cell phone numbers. Verizon is not offering a 35% discount and I had to have them BLOCK our Verizon account so they cannot go in and change our long distance provider without our knowing about it. They are very very very persistant!
- Office Adminstrator replies to Dave WagnerThey are still at it and it's December2013. I was not aware of this scam when the first call came, but after talking to them I called Verizon the very next morning because I just felt something wasn't quite right about it. Now they won't stop calling. We may have to get our office number changed.
- Office AdministratorThese people are still at it, they have called us 6 times in the last month and I have called them on their scam4 of those 6 times but the persistently call back. A man with a very thick "India" accent and he says his name is Michael. I have even told him after I confronted him on the phone about his harassment and he said it was the first time he'd ever called us. I told him BULL because I'm the person he's been talking to. They try to circumvent by asking for the office manager, they know not to ask for me by name anymore because I threatened to have them arrested for harassment. He claims he is from Verizon.
- derekI get these calls once a day or every other day. I have received about 10 of them now. when they ask me for my name i just ask them for my account number to verify that they are real. they hang up. Real losers.
- Caller: they say ATT (but they're lying)
