- anonymousIm not sure who these people are but they called and said im a defendant in a lawsuit and that they have been trying to reach me by mail. They said they sent documents and that I verified they were mine which I haven't recieved anything. Tried to tell me that the reason for the lawsuit was from an account I was supposed to have opened in 2007 at an address I didnt move to until 2009. They would not send me any further documents and tried to bully me. I told them I would not verify anything until I had documents in front of me. I asked the man if he would believe someone over the phone and pay the $1200 that I was supposed to have owed and he said of course he would. I said well I dont have stupid tattooed on my forehead so I won't. With all the scams going on you cannot trust anyone.

Then they threatend me. Whatever. I'm not giving a stranger my credit card number. I'm not stupid. Send me the paperwork first! What a scumbag company.

This voicemail came in late last night on my cell phone, which makes me wonder how these people even got a hold of my number, especially when it's not listed.
I contacted the Washington State Attorney General's office and they advised that in the future, if I receive phone calls like this again, to let it go to voicemail and not call these type of people back. You are correct. Telephones are the preferred tools for many scammers.
Allow me to answer your question in a very simple fashion ... not to insult your intelligence, but to attempt to get the idea across to even those who have difficulty understanding more complicated answers.

In other words, Mr Computer can make and dial phone numbers VERY quickly.
Spammers and scammers who know about Mr Computer do not need to register and buy the DNC list.
Spammers and scammers who know about Mr Computer can even dial "unlisted" numbers, or "private numbers" or "brand-new numbers you just got"!
The Do Not Call list is not a magic switch that blocks these calls from reaching your phone. It is merely a list.
There, now you know all about how spammers can dial YOUR phone number, even if it is unlisted, and even if only relatives know it, and even if it is on or off the DNC list.
I hope that helps prove the DNC list DOES work! It helps prevent calls from registered / legitimate telemarketers, but it is not able to stop calls from telespammers. - NajahA lady called me and left a voicemail stating the matter was regarding myself and my property at an address I haven't lived at in 6 years, that was never my property. They stated a file number and that if myself or my attorney did not contact them today it would not be necessary for me to cooperate any further. Ok well since I'm at work and won't be off until later this evening therefore not able to call TODAY, my job here is done...since I only have today to call. This is crap. Anyone I owe would haved my current address especially if they have my cell number.

- anonymousWoman left a voice mail at 11:53 this morning for one of my family members and that they "had" to call by the end of the day. Duh, some people work during the day. Said it was regarding a "civil complaint" filed against them in their county. It's the same old scam - pay now and they'll drop the "charges". Whatever, they're just scammers.

- ConcernedS_tizenI made the mistake of buying a car. Ever since I applied for a loan (and approved with 1.9% financing), I have been hounded by these guys. They call me every day for the past month. They've called my wife, mother and sister. Today, they called my office and spoke to someone who has the same first name as me. They said the next step is that a process server will be coming to my office.
OK, let it come. Serve me papers and lets adjudicate this.
I wish an investigative reporter would track these guys down and harass them. I called the # and gave the man who answered the case number and his attitude changed he got rude and combative. He said I going to jail and that I would be getting served at work. I tried asking if they had my home address but he wouldn't allow me to speak then hung up on me.

- Jeff| 1 replyNew scam alert, If you get a call that is, "Anonymous Call" and they want you to call 1-888-735-5070 it is a scam, they say you have court proceedings etc trying to say you are the defendant Etc. Had it happen today. I reported it to the F.B.I. and to the F.T.C. (Federal Trade Commission) with the number from above, The F.B.I. Confirmed is a newer scam.

The woman stated that she was "Anna Price" and asked for me by name, both my current and married name (I've been divorced for 14 years), that said I was being contacted regarding pending action that is being pursued on MY behalf. Really? On MY behalf? And it's something that I have zero knowledge of? But somehow due to her limited amount of time, if I don't call back TODAY, there will be no further action required on my part.
And of course, no company name was given, but yes, I need to refer to a specific reference number.

- Angry Kat| 4 repliesGot call today at 11:00 am on cell and a friends phone asking for me, demanding I return the call regarding a legal complaint pending against me and to avoid further legal action, a former address was mentioned?? I tried calling back this evening no answer. I'm glad I looked I looked up number and found this post. I wonder if they are just hitting Ventura County or other locations....Bad people, they will eventually be held accountable..
