The only way to kill the bogus takeover of your Internet Explorer browser when it happens is to kill it with the task manager. These guys have apparently figured out how to remap your buttons so you have to kill the explorer before you can continue.
good luck if you accidently give/gave them any information or paid them money - hank replies to STEVE| 2 repliesNot sure what killing it with Task Manager all means . . . How about an explanation on that please, would really appreciate it
- hank replies to STEVE| 1 replyfigured it out . . .thanks anyway!
- Pudge replies to hank| 1 replyI'm assuming you're operating windows. Right click on the windows icon and open the Task Manager. Look for all the open browsers. For example, if you're using firefox, look for the firefox symbol. If you're using Internet Explorer look for the Ie symbol. Close those tasks by right clicking on them and clicking on End Task. Also look for any "unrecognized" tasks running and end them as well.
- Gina Anderson| 1 replyI got this this "virus" as I was looking up schoolwork! It locks your browser so I called the number and they wanted me to pay $300 to fix it, I knew it was a scam so I hung up and they called back twice on a different number: 1 (855) 442 2935 whose area code I found out is from Cambodia. I killed it with the Task Manager and now it's working perfectly!!

Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer.
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies.
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
8. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
9. Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
10. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!

Read that info to educate and help protect yourself!
Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!
Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!

- JohnThis number pops up when they hijack your computer with a stupid pop-up that won't go away on your computer. they tell you that you need to pay them because there is a virus on your computer. COMPLETE LIE....Just cut your computer off and then back on, it will disappear. Just out of curiosity, we called this number and they answer as Microsoft Tech Support though we know they are not. Sounds like a large scam call center from India. Do not pay these people anything!!!! A COMPLETE SCAM!!!!!

- Slim replies to JE>> How soon would i know if my accounts were used? <<
Most scammers try to use the account soon after they get the info.
However, some delay use, in the hopes the mark will forget they released the info, and may use the account weeks or months later. - DebbieWE have now gotten this message twice in the last few weeks. both times were pop ups on our computer while looking at facebook. I did not call the number thank goodness. I had to control/alt/delete to get it to go away
