- Another Scammer| 5 repliesReceived postcard from Southwest saying I have been selected to receive 2 Round Trip Airfares to anywhere Southwest flies. Call 1-888-755-3895. Postage from West Palm Beach, FL Permit 3950
Looks like a scam similar to other ones mentioned on the 800notes site. - SWI received a post card saying the same thing says to call 1-888-755-3895,
I am throwing it out.- Caller: not listed on post card
- FoolishGot a postcard today (10/24/11) about two "Round Trip Airfares to anywhere Northwest flies in the continental US" from VACATION CHOICES. Same postmark as comment above.
Beware of this - must be a scam. Besides the bad grammar and horrific font matching, Northwest Airlines ceased to exist at the end of 2009 and the brand was retired in January 2010.
The small print says "...This offer is not sponsored by or affiliated with Northwest Airlines but they are a major sponsor..."- Caller: Vacation Choices
- BrianI received a postcard that looks like it is from Northwest Airlines (although as the above post mentions, Northwest Air no longer exists as they have merged into Delta Air). The front of the postcard looks very official - it has the Northwest Airlines logo with the slogan "FLY AWAY ESCAPE"
The back says:
"Congratulations! You have been selected to receive 2 Round Trip Airfares to anywhere Northwest flies in the continental US. CALL WITHIN 48 HOURS. YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE AS A BONUS 3 DAY 2 NIGHT HOTEL STAY! We have been trying to contact you! (This is not a timeshare or land sale offer) To claim your special offer, simply call 1-888-755-3895. Vacation Choices ~ Your choice, your vacation."
The small print says:
"Certain restrictions apply. Call for details of participation. This offer is not sponsored by or affiliated with Northwest Airlines but they are a major supplier. Taxes and reservation fees are the responsibility of the recipient. Offer void where prohibited by law. Not applicable to Alaska or Hawaii."
I called the number to see if this was a scam, and a women answered the phone and said her company was Vacation Choices and asked how she could help (She also mentioned the call is being recorded). I said I received a postcard with Northwest Airlines on it and asked if it was real since Northwest isn't around anymore. She apologized and said it is now Delta. Her company is a travel discount company and was starting a branch in my area. She said they want to meet with me for 90 minutes and then the 2 round trip air tickets were mine. I told her I wasn't interested and she told me thanks for calling.- Caller: Vacation Choices
- Barbara ClewisI called the number on the card to see if I had really won a trip for two. After a man answered the phone he asked me for the RSVP Number After giving him the number he told me that the promotion had just end about a hour ago. I had called eariler before the place opened and the recording said that they opens at 9:00 am well I called before 9:30 and was told the the promotion ended a hour ago. This is just another scam. Using the name CONTINENTAL.
This is what the card states:

- JaniceJust got the same postcard and it had United Airlines all over it. The phone number is 1-888-515-4458 and I Googled it. Found out it is a mobile phone located in India. I guess I am staying far, far away from that offer of FREE tickets.

- Mike| 3 repliesReceived the same card. Mine said "DELTA" at the top and on the back it had the Delta logo and the phrase "FLY AWAY ESCAPE" as a previous post had mentioned. Phone number on mine is 1-888-402-9222. I see in the small print the exact same thing someone else mentioned about about Delta Airlines not being affiliated. At the bottom on the front it also says VACATION CHOICES ~ Your choice, your vacation.
Basically after some research it appears that Vaction Choices is just a company that offers vacation discounts and services. They call it a 'club' and of course clubs come with membership fees. So from what I gathered you pay the membership fee and you get the tickets at no charge. So your membership fee is more then likely paying for the 2 round trip tickets.
There website: http://vacationchoices.com/ - MJust received the same postcard in the mail that said: "Congratulations! You have been selected to receive 2 Round Trip Airfares within the continental US. CALL WITHIN 48 HOURS. YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE AS A BONUS 3 DAY 2 NIGHT HOTEL STAY! We have been trying to contact you! (This is not a timeshare or land sale offer) To claim your special offer, simply call 1-888-398-0313. Vacation Choices ~ Your choice, your vacation."
Why can't they stop these scams? I am so tired of freakin scams like this!!!!!!
tossed this quickly!!!!!!!!!!- Caller: none
- R from PA| 4 repliesThis certainly was a “You pay me now, and I’ll give you something unbelievably good later” offer. I just wasn’t able to find out exactly how much the “pay me now” was or how convenient it would be to use the plane tickets or hotel stay.
Vacation Choices wanted me to pay a $50.00 reservation fee per airline ticket and all taxes. Additionally, there was a 90 minute presentation I was supposed to sit through which I assume involved them wanting me to join their “club” which would have some sort of membership cost associated with it. Why else have a 90 minute presentation? I don't know if the fee was only $50 per round trip ticket for a total of $100, or if they wanted $50 per one way per ticket for a total of $200, or $50 per leg per one way per ticket for $200+. The rep did claim that they would refund the fee after I took the trip which I had a year to do. I assume I would be responsible for all luggage charges. I also don’t know if Vacation Choices wanted me to send THEM the amount for taxes which surely wasn’t going to happen. I wasn’t able to get more details because the phone rep seemed irritated by my questions and kept trying to go back to her scripted pitch, so after awhile, we came to an impasse and hung up.
Before hanging up, the rep also claimed that they were looking into starting a new branch in my area of PA, and they wanted to get people talking about their company by offering these great promotional packages. My postcard had Delta on the front and back in bold print which at first made it appear that the card was from Delta; however, the fine print at the bottom listed 5 other carriers as participating airlines and had a disclaimer regarding any airline sponsorship. The postage was from West Palm Beach, FL, permit 3950. The number to call was 888-534-6965. It seems like the "company," Vacation Choices, is using different 1-800 numbers for different areas of the country or for different time periods. The card stated that I had been "selected to receive 2 Round Trip Airfares within the continental US" and the bonus 3 day 2 night hotel stay. It did not have any claims of this being free or that I had won anything. Overall, I still found it pretty deceptive. Caveat emptor- let the buyer beware. - Jessica replies to Mike| 2 repliesWell, my husband & I actually did call, and went and listened to the presentation, just for the fun of it. We figured we didn't have anything to lose, except our time. The bottom line, don't waste your time!! The membership fee? A one time fee of around $8000!! (which they will decrease to "only" $4,000 by the time they're done) then a $299 annual fee every year you use their service.
If you take a lot of the type of vacations they're offering (mostly overseas destinations) I guess it would save you money in the long run, but who has that kind of money up front?! And the "free" airline tickets? Costs $50 just to redeem your certificate (which you only have a few weeks to do) then another $150 per person when you decide to actually make your reservations within the next year, but you only have a choice of six destinations. Once you get there, you are responsible for all other expenses. We decided we'd be farther ahead if we just stayed home, so we tossed the certificate. And now we know. : ) - Jessica replies to R from PA| 3 repliesWell, my husband & I actually did call, and went and listened to the presentation, just for the fun of it. I went to promo339.com/na39 to check it out and there are several fees involved in it totaling $350. Absolutely ludicrous! 2 round trip tickets in the continental US plus a bonus 3 day/2 night stay, call 1-888-404-7668 SCAAAAMMMMMM alert!

- KeithBHey, thanks everyone for your input. The internet is so useful. I got one of those cards and called they set an appointment up but after reading all your comments I will pass on that meeting. I do not have extra time to have someone harass me for an hour and a half. By the way they asked we show up earlier and they will meet us in the lobby then take us up to the "meeting room". Sounds like a beating cage.
Thanks everyone and Happy New Year!- Caller: Vacation Choices

- Airplane Named After Me| 3 repliesI just received the same postcard, but (and this is exciting!) the airline on it had my name on it! I had to do a double-take! The tail of the plane had my initials on it! I actually hadn't noticed since the font looked like United on the back of the plane and the font looked like Southwest on the tail. Then I read the above messages and re-looked at the postcard to see which airline was on it and was quite surprised to see the jet named after me! Best laugh I have had all day!

- Airplane Named After Me replies to Airplane Named After Me| 2 repliesI should add... the reason I did not immediately pitch this in the trash was that it had the Expedia logo on the front. I am an Expedia user, so I took it seriously enough to web research it. Thank you all !
- PaulI got the postcard yesterday, and called the 800 number. I live in St. Louis and the card said Delta. The operator promised me it would be a fun 90 minute presentation and there would be no hard sell at all. Well after reading the preceding posts I will definetly not go to the presentation. $50 to redem the voucher and $150.00 per person to travel. What a scam to get your money, and $8000 to join a club plus over $300 a year service fee. I am so glad I read these post.
