Scam debt collection company. Says its regarding a " felony breach of contract" for a bad check for a payday loan. I asked them to mail me information and they became threatening. The lady used very foul language to me and threatened to suspend my drivers license and threatened to visit my grandmothers house. She tried to say my grandma co-signed a loan and would be named as a party in this "lawsuit". This information is all false. However, the company does know a lot of information about me and my family, including SSN's and my license plate numbers. I don't even know my mom's or grandma's SSN so I'm not sure how they do. It's quite creepy and concerning. I called the police and involved them and the calls stopped for a few days. I got a few more calls today and now when I try to call them back at the number I did last week I get a fast busy signal. SCAM. Don't give them ANY information or let them scare your family into believing it's a legitimate issue to be concerned about. A real company will mail you stuff, not threaten, and not demand things over the phone or call you foul names.

It's not just "odd" - it is a criminal scam.  Learn your rights under the FDCPA so you can be wise to these crooks.

First, they are required by law to furnish everything in writing sent by US mail.  Second they cannot suspend your driver's license over a debt.  The very fact that they said this is a violation of federal and state collection laws.  As qwerty told you, learn what you need to know to prevent yourself from becoming the victim of a crime.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

SCAM!!!!.... I received a call from 1-888-782-1127 a company called Capital Arbitration Bureau and spoke with a Mrs. Davidson ID #71160 who told me I was involved with a breach of contract concerning a bad check for a payday loan. She had my Social Security # and birth date, she said there was a recommendation to suspend my drivers license for 120 days. I asked her to send me paperwork and told her I didn't believe her and i thought this was a scam. She gave me a phone number for the Judge Chaning out of Lima Ohio supposedly the Judge who was assigned for my case and said to call them if i wanted paperwork sent to me. I did call the Judge's office and found out there is no such case under my name or social. They also told me it was a SCAM AND TO REPORT IT!!! They said the first clue it's a scam is the 888 at the beginning of the phone number and NOT TO MAKE ANY PAYMENTS TO THEM EVEN IF THEY SEND YOU A GARNISHMENT LETTER!!! People please REPORT THEM TO YOUR LOCAL ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE if you get a call from this number!

Yes, I'm sure that's how things work in your alternate dimension of West Ernu Yawk, where mentally defective people who dropped out of school at age nine can all start a bright career in phantom debt collection, and consumers may call upon police to validate their debts. Meanwhile, in North America, "local  authorities" have nothing to say about consumer debts, which include payday loans, because they are not criminal matters. Where the rest of us live, collection agencies cannot magically seize assets or suspend licenses or send debtors to jail.

I realize that comprehension of English is difficult for your tribe, so I'll explain what you took as "advise". Trisha did not involve "local authorities" for corroboration of any claims. She was made anxious by extortionist lies, breaches of privacy, and threats against her extended family. Those are not the acts of genuine debt collectors but perverse schemers who think they are entitled to each dishonest dollar.

No debt collector, not even any state that I know of for that matter, can suspend your license for not paying a bill.  Not paying for damages in a car accident, yes, but not paying a bill, no.

If a judge was assigned to the case you would have already been properly served papers.  they must sue you in the county that you reside in, not several states over.

If you feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS.  Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039):

So they garnished you without giving you the opportunity to refute this forged loan? Yeah, right. Did they at least send you the required-by-law validation of debt through the mail? Methinks they did not, because this is a scam and you are a shill. And a poor one at that.
